I have another classified intelligence report from the Spanish. Great War Era Spanish Dive boats have provided a steady steam of Itelligence and have avoided being sunk.

Another British Carrier Force has been detected. It has been some time since we spotted the Furious, but I think I can be confidant that all three British fleet carriers are in the Atlantic. Further, The British heavies seem to be concentrated in two large fleets. The next largest force seems to be the Hermes fleet which I judge to be in Alexandria.

Meanwhile, Admiral Marshall has picked up the remnants of the Australian fleet near Sicily. He has broken off his move to Podorica to pursue them south east towards Egypt. The Tirpitz has effected damage control, and is able to fire.

The burning and listing Australians have escaped, probably through the Suez canal and back home to Australia.

Wow, not only did the Australian fleet stay afloat but it damaged the Tirpitz  !! considering the RAN was nothing more than floating scrap during WWII (and now for that matter), this is just roflicious! :p

sweet AAR, you're going quite well

A question: what sprites are you using for your ships? they look awesome, and I want them!

Those Australians are proving troublesome.

Edit: I think he is using the SKIF graphics icons.

yeah i meant on the map, or are those the vanilla ship icons? its been a while since i havent used counters...

The 3d models you can use instead of counters are called "Sprites". I got my naval sprites from a post that was on the Stony Road forums. Sadly, I don't know who the author is, or what happened to the post. All I have are two .rar files that have no readme in them.

A good all in one set of sprites is available from the design mod project. They aren't the same as mine, but they add dozens of unique ship models for different countries, and are similar to the sprites I am using.

May 25th, 1939. Costa Blanca

Spanish troops have seized Mostaganem and the ragtag remnants of the French fleet have been forced to Sea. The High Seas fleet engaged immidiately. The French retreated up the cost of Spain towards Marseilles. After two days of running gun battle, and two major engagements, nothing was left of the French fleet but wreckage.

The Bearn was struck on the Flight deck by a 19" shell from the Friderich der Grosse. She caught fire, and had to cease air operations. She burned for 6 hours before filnally being abandoned to sink.

This marks the end of the French as a naval power. Germany is now master of the mediterranean. It only remains to prove that point to the British by sinking the Hermes.

May 28th 1939, Gulf of Lyon

My hunt for the Hermes will have to be postponed. Lt. General Kluge's expedition into the south of France has been repulsed. 10 French divisions have him cornered and he has called for evacuation. The Transports are in harbour, but the first attempt to escape was repulsed by a roving british cruiser. The High Seas fleet has been called apon to escort the transports back to Seville.

The bad news in France is balanced by good news from Poland. Except for a small enclave around Grodno, all of Poland has been overrun. Armies are redeplying to the Belgian border in prepaprtion for major operations against France. It is to be hoped that Kluge's mini invasion, combined with Spanish pressure along their border has drawn off divisions from the north.

Whatever happened to those sweet charts?

Nice update though, I'm glad to see the Bearn has been sunk. :D

Nice, yet another carrier falls to the extremly large guns of the German navy's Battleships. :D

They take a long time to draw up, and just are not worth itfor clashes that are nothing more that mopping up operations. When I take on a fleet that has a chance against me, I'll do another.

This is a very interesting AAR. I like how Germany's focus has changed completely from Ground to Naval Warfare.

Good luck and I hope the new divisions from Poland are enough to crush the French in the North.

hey

The Balbinater says that this is one of the best AARs he's seen. keep up the good work! this is not just a good AAR, but a great, well-written story!

like your attention to detail too.

June 1939. The Western Mediterranean
The situation in the Mediterranean now seems to be in hand. My mind is wandering out into the Atlantic. It is out there that the legend of the Kriegsmarine is to be written. In here we are just bullies. However, I am not above a bit of bullying when it will save German lives!

I have dispersed the fleet, with all damaged vessels returning to Podorica for repairs. The remaing ships will continue to patrol the Mediterranean in smaller groups.

Small groups of French and English ships continue to be encountered. With severeal patrols operating near each other, reinforcements can quickly be brought in when needed.
