That is my understanding too. MW5 to scratch the Big and Stompy Solo (Coop) itch and MWO to scratch the Big and Stompy Multiplayer itch.

But while they have different engines, I would not be surprised if MWO (at some point) joined MW5 on the Unreal engine. As a matter of fact, I just may ask that question during the upcoming 16JAN PGI Q&A. : )

I wonder if PGI might do that eventually as well.

It does seem like the game is so far a long in it's life cycle that they might not bother with the amount of work it seems like it would be. At the same time though, maybe they are developing MW5 in a way that they could take a version of it and plug in MWO modules into that version, and make a new MWO in Unreal.

That would be interesting.

Looks like we have our very first MW5 AMA on 16JAN. : ) https://twitter.com/mw5mercs/status/1083423870864973824?s=21

The discord mentioned is a gated. IIRC it is only available to those who pre-purchased at any level.

I will be taking notes and posting them to a thread here on the BATTLETECH forum.

Thoughts on a gated Q&A?

Hmm. I haven't actually played MWO yet. I looked at it a while back, and at the time it looked like one of those games that starts you off with very restrictive options, and makes you grind to get access to bigger mechs and better weapons. Did I interpret it incorrectly, and that's just an optional part of the game for people who like campaigns? Do they have an option/ game mode where you can just jump straight into any mech and customize it however you want, reconfiguring it every single game if you feel like it? I understand they have to make money, and I don't have a problem with purchasing expansions that include newly released mechs and equipment, much like MW4 did. I don't even mind paying a reasonable monthly subscription fee to support keeping the servers running. I just don't want to get nickeled and dimed for every little thing all the time.

It sounds like the MW5 Discord is available to anyone who pre-ordered. I checked all 3 tiers and they all say "- Access to the Official MW5 Discord
- Access to Bi Monthy AMAs"
.

In any case, thank you for offering to share notes. I know that is going to be a fair amount of work.

It is a fun game. I played MWO for several years before I eventually lost interest in it.

It is a Free to Play game though, so it is going to have the regular trappings that such games have. It is going to be a bit grindy, and there is microtransactions, so that does need to be taken into account.

The game does help a little bit though. There is a training section (Academy) that once you finish, the game gives you 25 mil C-Bills which helps a lot (buying mechs, equip, weap, etc...). Also, there are trial mechs that see occasional rotation that you can take out for free, they just can't be customized. Any mech you purchase though can be fully customized in the Mechlab.

Most of it is quick drop play modes (domination, VIP escort, Deathmatch, etc), but there is a community warfare portion and a Solaris Arena portion as well.

Overall I would give it a shot. It is free, so other than the time to install it and play it, there isn't any cost to trying it.

If you are looking for another option, there is MechWarrior: Living Legends. That is a multiplayer BattleTech themed mod to Crysis. It does have a surprising amount of depth, but IMO it does lack a lot of polish and it also isn't very user friendly for those wishing to drop in solo (without dropping in with friends to coordinate with).

It is also worth a try. I do prefer the way MWO plays better, but both are fun.

I purchased the MW5 “Mercenary” package. It includes all the MW5 content it is possible to purchase at this time, plus an amazing amount of MWO Content. This includes both MC and Cbills (in game currency.) With these you can purchase a limited number of Mechs.

If you don’t mind purchasing Mechs straight up the MWO shop can outfit you with whatever you might want.

I was a very active MWO gamer up until the BATTLETECH Beta. From then on it has been all BATTLETECH.

But my MW5 purchase has me very interested in dusting off my Logitech Gamepad and diving back into MWO.

One change to MWO going on 2-years ago now was that it is now not only your Mech that you can kit out just as you want, but you can now spec your Each of your Mechs’ MechWarrior. Some of mine are LRM Masters, some are Brawlers, some great Direct Fire Experts.

I like this “new” (at least it is to me) aspect of MWO the best! : )

I hope you give both MW5 and MWO a Shot.

And as ever, good luck and good gaming!

My errant post has been corrected. Thank you Good Sir!

MWO is very fun game (i'm still playing). Also, It's a free game, but need a few week, for grab sufficient c-bill (specialmoney in game) for buy a decent mech.Trail mech are fun, but canot costumise, so if want better experience, you need expend a few box in this game. For example, i both Solaris pack in cibermonday, and only cost me 12 dollar, and that for 2 year in game, it's helpfull and suficient. And,when you buy MW5, you will recibe a very Good Mech in game (champion or elite). In my opinions, is recomended this game, special if you are Mechwarrior saga fun.

Was going out to do purchase MW5 and decided to do a hardware check at systemrequirementslab.com . Now I'm looking for hardware guidance. I don't know of another forum that is as helpful, so I'm coming here to ask some questions.

Was told my video card is insufficient, currently running GeForce GTX 760 (2GB) and it was suggested I upgrade to GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB). However, apparently GTX 1070 is no longer produced. Can I get a suggestion on what type of card to buy?

My current CPU is i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz, I think this is a minimum level processor. The above website recommends upgrading to i7-6700K. Can I do this using the same MB socket or is this a new machine altogether?

I've been playing BT fine with the current setup and have looked forward to playing MW5, but having to put out $1000+ to run the game gets a little steep. And this is from someone who built a whole new desktop to play MechCommander back in the 90s.

You only need to worry about the video card. Your CPU is way better than the minimum listed baring some feature missing in a 4th gen i7 that a 7th gen i3 has. [link]

Someone else can comment on AMD video cards for recommendations But look at nvidia GTX 1650s. they seem to have great value to performance it looks like.
