So, I love me some alternate history. And I love Eastern Rome. I found this alternate history mod (here) about what if Eastern Rome - Basileia Romaion - Byzantium, never fell?

The mod is in version 0.1, so no doubt will the experience change, and surely will the save game get outdated fast, but I figured out I'd check it out and see what the mod has to offer. At this moment of time I have yet to unpause and have not played it at all, so this will be all oh so fresh. Expect this to be a gameplay AAR, not a history AAR, nor a narrative AAR. I will posts lots of screenshots and short descriptions, and maybe, maybe, will this go on to be a series of me testing mods out for our viewing pleasure? I cannot promise anything, just a thought. :)

So this is the world of Basileia Romaion, before unpausing, but after tinkering with the economy a bit:

Basileia Romaion is the second largest power in the world, oddly industrialized and progressive in her laws. Sher has several vassals, as well as previous vassals in Egypt and Africa.

The latter two needs to be taken as vassals before 26 years have gone by, or there will be trouble.
1671484814115.png

And yes, both trigger the same event, if you wondered. 0.1 and all I guess. :)

Political situation. Note the many good laws.

Buildings. We have line infantry, mobile artillery and first aid already.

Also, we have these impressive buildings:

Budget, I raised taxes one step and added some consumption taxes to the already many present:

Military is good, certainly much bigger than Egypt's, which will be important later as we know:

The wider world around is quite different from our timeline too. Denmark rules over Norway as a subject as per history, but did not lose them to Sweden. Sweden on their hand controls both North German territory in Pommerania, the Baltics, Finland, Pskov and Novgorod, while the Golden Horde controls the rest of Russia.

Poland and Lithuania never fell, Germany is semi united, and the HRE is unified - as what is our France and Belgium, more or less. The Muslims never left Spain, where only the north is still controlled by small Christian states.

The Muslim Caliphate under the Abbasids also remains, but only in Arabia proper, plus a subject in Eritrea.

Great Britain controls India, but also there you see things are different.

And you have the Seljuk Persia with vassals of course.

1671486497461.png

Asia is dominated by Qing, but Siberia is not colonized. Australia is, though, but the Brits. The Dutch East Indies is also a thing in this timeline. Oh, and Japan is governed by the Emperor. A certain Ienari Tokugawa.
1671486677691.png

Africa is pretty independent for the most part, the Brits in the Cape, Venice in the west, as is the HRE. Greek and Muslim states in the north and east. But much of it is indeed governed by natives.
1671486790441.png

South America is also more native governed than our timeline, with the HRE having small parts of Brazil, the Brits the Falklands and small bits of the coast, the Inca still in control and New Granada is a vassal of Al-Andalus and thus Islam's main foothold in the New World.

1671486901774.png

North America is dominated in the south by the Aztecs, with the HRE having a sizable portion next to it, Denmark controlling Vinland and Elysium being what I guess is a now independent state previously a East Roman colony. Venice also have a sizeable portion in the Caribbean and Florida.

So, we start aggressively.

...and we get a bug, I guess. Bulgaria suddenly revolt. I was supposed to have 26 years. :p And lo and behold, the two journal entries are still there too.
1671488256158.png

War is on, with Al-Andalus supporting Egypt.
1671488299863.png

Bulgaria has no chance, sandwitched as they are.
1671488361151.png

But now we have a big BIG problem: Abbasids have the ability to actually conquer the entirety of Egypt AND Africa, and are doing well. I have won the war now, but they get more land and soon they annex Egypt, and I can do nothing about it...

1671488533741.png

I will not lie, this does really suck. I can go to war against the Abbasids, but they have more troops than me and I can only take provinces or puppet them. The latter is a bit weird, considering how big they are.

I guess we have this though:
1671488764263.png

We got skirmish infantry and try to go to war to vassalize the Caliphate. HRE joins in on the Arab side. We try to invade at three points, let's see how it goes. On the border this goes initially well, in any case.
1671489178085.png

Then it doesn't go so well there, giving us a standstill, but the naval invasions are a major success! The Caliphate gives up to annex Africa too:
1671489269208.png

Situation some weeks later are good...and bad:
1671489547336.png

But then everything collapses:
1671489738567.png

I just realized a problem: We have no way of manufacturing ammunition, as we lack the tech. Sigh.

War really goes back and forth, but soon we might be able to get a white peace....
1671490099029.png

This has got to be a bug but I won't complain. In two ticks, Caliphate went from 0.0 in war support to -100. And we...won?
1671490252605.png

+80k gold while building now. Adding +12 construction levels in the capital and +5 in Antioch, as a start. And lowering taxes!

Well, this sucks. :D
1671490524781.png

War! No great powers intervened, I went for war reparations and transfer of Caucasian Imamate. :)
1671490779022.png

Anatolia seems to be hard to hold in each and every war... :p

1671490903013.png

Thank the Almighty!
1671491078635.png

Also, just got the tech for ammunition, so building factories now!

Weird. I won, but it seems only the war goals towards Persia and not her vassals were enforced.
1671491184133.png

As of April, 1844 we have agrarianism instead of traditionalism!

I like the idea. Nations are unique and interesting and much different than otl counterparts.
But you need to build some "deeper lore" i.e. what happened that country from early medieval era (before Manzikert Byzantium) or late medieval one (like Tartaria) survived without much changes. Why wasn't Americas colonised like in our timeline?
For now although interesting it's more of a "history inspired fiction" than "althistory" if you know what I mean

One question tho: Why is France HRE? Are they ruled by Karlings or sth? :O

Good luck with your mod :D

P.S.: I would like to help you with the historical basis of your mod, but I don't have Victoria 3. I can still try if it's not a problem ;)

It's not my mod. I just found it as I said. :)

Ok, for some reason I thought you wrote "found it" as "created it". That makes much more sense :) I will follow this journey

P.S.: I guess I will try to contact with mod creator then :p
You should do that, the name is in the link. :p

Poor Byzantium. The most resurrected corpse in the Paradox community :D

But I love the world setup. Especially Elysium. And also, love the fact that you managed to get your badboy so high you got cut down to size so early :D
Who's the leading Great Power?
