Nice to know that you won't fall too far behind. Wouldn't want the Europeans colonizing you in the future.

Chapter 18: Word Is Spreading
Faama Kpangbah

December 10, 1010-April 3, 1019

Things have developed in a rather interesting way recently. News of may family is reaching ears far and wide, between a few splinter branches becoming independent and some temples being built.

In other news, the Ghanians have converted to Islam and become a Clan, in a desperate attempt to save themselves. Far too little and far too late for them, unfortunately.

Goodbye, Ghana...

Interlude 3: One Empire Rises, Another Falls
Well, you all know the deal by now. Another half a century, another update.

20210911171147_1.jpg

England has a few Scottish spots, while Ireland is just a mess.

20210911171200_1.jpg

The old Norse lands are going absolutely nowhere, with the notable exception of Denmark.

20210911171211_1.jpg

The French Empire has been reformed, providing a big powerhouse in Europe.

20210911171219_1.jpg

Spain is still fragmented, but the Witireiks have made inroads into North Africa.

20210911171232_1.jpg

Central Europe is dominated by Bavaria and Hungary, with Italy lurking to the south.

20210911171432_1.jpg

The Abbasids are expanding into east Africa- a possible rival?

20210911171453_1.jpg

The Kirghiz Empire has finally fallen, with nobody to replace them.

20210911171505_1.jpg

India is still a fragmented land, and the Habbari have fallen apart in Sindh.

Some possible enemies have emerged...

And Britain proper looks better.

A natural death for one of the rulers...

Also, Gambia is Guinea on that map, right? If so, sheesh that's a large empire.

Chapter 20: A Race Against Time
Faama Nyahn

April 10, 1022-March 10, 1036

Okay, folks, this one's going to be a little complicated. I raced towards the Hereditary Rule innovation to get regular partition instead of confederate partition, so that no new kingdoms would form on succession. But there was one small problem- it didn't work!

20210919095740_1.jpg

So I improvised, forming the Kingdoms of Mali and Jenne.

20210919100214_1.jpg

I now have 76 counties in my realm, and only need 4 more to form a custom empire. But I'm 52 now, age is creeping up on me. Can I finish the job before I die?

Chapter 21: Empire State of Mind
Emperor Nyahn

March 10, 1036-June 23, 1045

At long last, I have done it. The Kingdoms of Gambia, Mali, and Jenne have been united into a single empire under my command. It has indeed been a long time coming, but now, I don't need to worry about the realm shattering when I die.

What's more, I have taken the last Holy Site of the Siguist faith. Now, the problems I have been having with piety should be no more. Not bad, if I do say so myself.

And we rule an empire now! Behold our glory!

Those skills are also useful for war...

Chapter 23: A Reign of Stability
Emperor Kpangbah

February 6, 1057-June 3rd, 1072

Well, my reign was actually relatively peaceful. Not a lot of chances for expansion, though I picked up a few small vassals through diplomacy. Better to buy friends than beat them into submission, after all. Nyahn seems to have a good head on his shoulders for money, maybe he'll be able to find a way to pay for more soldiers and make some damage.

Interlude 4: Around the World
Well, it's been a while (in more ways than one!) so let's see how the rest of the world is doing.

20211008172931_1.jpg

Scotland has seen Iceland break off, while England and Ireland have done some county swapping

20211008172947_1.jpg

France is merrily eating its way through Muslim Spain- gonna be scary.

20211008173011_1.jpg

The northlands are still going nowhere- but what the heck is Estonia doing over by Novgorod??

20211008173048_1.jpg

Still waiting for someone to take over for the Kirghiz in Central Asia.

20211008173326_1.jpg

The Muslims are still the Muslims- though it's worth noting the Abbasids have lost the title, so maybe they won't be racking up the long reign bonuses quite as fast.

20211008173333_1.jpg

Most of Central Africa has turned Siguic- might be easier to focus or grabbing lands from the Moors for the time being.

20211008173359_1.jpg

India has formed most of the kingdom-level titles, but still not an Empire to be found.

Chapter 24: Spanish Showdown
Emperor Kpangbah
June 3, 1072- January 9, 1089

Well, it finally happened. Our first true war against the Europeans- specifically, the Wittirid Muslims of Spain. Unfortunately, it did not go as planned, and after three years of battering each other senseless, a white peace was agreed to. Could have been better, but also could have been so much worse.

20211124211139_1.jpg

Perhaps the problem was the complete and total lack of siege engines in my armies- I have every other available tribal innovation save mangonels, but my engineers are working to co-op even more modern designs. They should be ready fairly soon...

Chapter 25: Rocks Fall...
Emperor Kpangbah

January 9, 1089-December 17, 1098

Today, my engineers arrived with a very interesting contraption, capable of throwing heavy rocks large distances. They intend to use it to shatter the walls of castles like glass, make it easier for our men to get inside and end the siege. I asked if they had any more of these wonderous weapons available.

"A few, your Majesty."

"And how many is a few?"

"Um... would sixty suffice?"

Chapter 27: The Best Offense Is Playing Defense
Emperor Mohammed

December 6, 1099-January 2, 1111

The good news is that the war with Ghana was finished quickly, putting an end to a once-terrifyingly powerful state. And then, it all went completely pear-shaped.

It started with a revolt for my throne. I managed to capture the upstart's heir, which enabled me to sue for a white peace, but while that happened, a Liberty War was declared. I pummeled the revolters all the way into submission, but the King of Takrur took advantage of my depleted troops to declare war on me.

Needless to say, I didn't get much conquering done in my lifetime. Perhaps Sarh will have it better- he sure can't have it much worse...

Chapter 28: Another Day, Another Era
Emperor Sarh

January 2, 1111- November 8th, 1124

And here I sit, on my father's throne. Perhaps a bit earlier than I anticipated, but nevertheless, I think I am ready. At least, I seem to be able to convince the priests of their place on the temporal side of things, and that is good.

20211212230316_1.jpg

The earliest parts of my reign have consisted of striking at smaller Muslim targets to the north. Swift blows, to increase my domain. They've also generated some cheap religious favor, and with my scholarly workers, my knowledge. This in turn has allowed my people to start on the way towards the High Medieval era, and a step closer to what I really need- a secure succession.

Interlude 5: Same As It Ever Was
Welp, here we go. Another trip round the old world.

20211225162222_1.jpg

England continues hanging on to half the Emerald Isle, while Scotland has reclaimed Iceland.

20211225162242_1.jpg

Scandanavia and Northern Europe continue to be mostly fragmented, though it seems that Sweden and Galicia-Volhynia might actually be capable of getting somewhere if they want to.

20211225162359_1.jpg

The French drive into Hispania seems to have been slowed by several revolts, and Byzantium is dealing with a giant one as well.

20211225162406_1.jpg

Arabia, meanwhile, is as stable as a horse barn (I'm so sorry).

20211225162435_1.jpg

Speaking of horses, the steppes are still filled with fairly sizeable realms, although their low development is keeping them a little behind the times.

20211225162439_1.jpg

Finally, we come to India, where the fragmented land features many rulers jockeying for position, though it looks like the Jhuti might actually be in trouble for once.
