Hello, friends, and welcome to this AAR! I'll be playing as House Krim, who start with the tiny little county of Sherbro in Gambia. I don't think there's much more to say, honestly, so let's get in and get going, shall we?

Prologue: Starting Off
Jamanatigi Kiatamba of Sherbro
January 1, 867

Well, to be honest, I think I have a good base to start my conquests from. I do have a bit of an ego, and the only thing I care about is me, but at least I manage to keep it somewhat restrained. I also have a rather wide variety of skills, and a large and powerful military for someone who only holds one county.

My Council is similarly talented. Particularly good are my Chancellor and my Marshal, but really, there's no weaknesses here. It could certainly be a lot worse...

Chapter 1: Quick Ascension
Farbas Kiatamba of Bassa

January 1, 867- August 23, 872

Well, things seem to be looking up, for the most part. Five more counties have fallen to my forces, and I have formed the Duchy of Bassa, as well as completely controlling the Duchy of Kono. In fact, the County of Kono has a War Camp under construction as well. Now, if I can just get a few daughters to complement my 3 sons...

Chapter 2: Succession's Gonna Be a A Problem...
Farbas Kiatamba of Bassa

August 23, 872- January 2nd, 877

Well, this could end up being fun. As my lands grow, so does my family. There's just one small problem...

20210723154736_1.jpg

Six sons, zero daughters. I've done what I can to grant junior sons titles. but when I die- well, the inheritance will get really ugly really quick.

The title alone deserves a follow here. Fantastic stuff. Best of luck to you! :)

Chapter 3: A Crown, And Mourning
Faama Kiatamba of Gambia

January 2, 877- June 23, 883

At last, it is done. After many years of work and battle, toil and bloodshed, I have conquered enough land to declare myself the mighty Faama of Gambia. But I must ask myself- was it worth the pain I have so recently suffered?

20210727064016_1.jpg

My eldest son and heir, Yarkpawolo, lies dead of the dread consumption. We buried him this evening, in the fortress courtyard. I had such high hopes for him, but it seems that they have all come to pain. Young Pese is now the heir apparent, and I hope fate is far kinder to him.

Chapter 4: A Little Gender Equality?
Faama Kiatamba of Gambia

June 23, 883- June 2, 890

After what feels like forever, I finally have daughters in the family. Now, I can worry about getting the best alliances I can, without wondering if the skills of a spouse will be of use. In addition, my dynasty has begun getting the word out that all those of talent are welcome in our halls. Hopefully, we can attract some more useful people.

Chapter 5: Almost There
Faama Kiatamba

June 2, 890- August 30, 898

The growth of the realm continues apace. I now own all of de jure Guinea, with the notable exception of the county of Nalu. The next step from here is to start spreading out, securing more land for my younger heirs to try and keep the domain I have together upon succession.

Good job conquering all (or most) of Guinea! Now the hard work begins to make sure all your hard work isn't undone when Kiatamba dies. Although a bit of fratricidal warring never goes amiss in a CK AAR…

The first couple of centuries of my Nigerian campaign were all fratricidal warring, iirc. The Empire of Guinea is big and while you're trying to form it there's a lot of chances for kingdoms to split apart.

Chapter 6: Gold, Gold, Gold!
Faama Kiatamba

August 30, 898-July 7, 909

With the capture of Nalu, the lasst part of the realm of Gambia has been taken. My thoughts now turn to adapting the Siguist faith. Campaigns in the west have given me a toehold in Akan, and the conquest of Niani in Mali has given me the first of the three holy sites I need. And with Niani comes gold- more gold than I could have ever dreamed of. Whatever the future rulers of Gambia plan, they will have the money to do it...

I love the title, and the AAR is well written so far. I shall follow this with interest.

It's a simple thing, but gold is undeniably useful to have at your disposal…

Chapter 7: End of A Legend
Faama Kiatamba

July 7, 909-8 May, 915

Everyone passes from this world, whether Faama or farmer. It seems the end has come for me, and I am content. I've done more than what I thought possible, and seen the birth of the Kingdom. May Pese follow in my footsteps, and be as successful as I was. I shall see you all on the other side...

20210808180121_1.jpg

Moment of truth, then. How smoothly is the succession going to go?

Yep, Toto reference is irresistible, more than enough to draw all the attention (the piece starts its never-ending loop in the mind whenever seeing the title).

(...) whether Faama or farmer.
:DNice. Rhymes. [*]

By the way, that right there, the death of a ruler, but while waging a war; that one is the most frustrating crisis during a succession to have. Bon chance with that!

Best of luck to Pese; may he carry on his father's legacy.

Interlude 1: The State of the World
Well, it's been fifty years, more or less, so let's see how the rest of the world is going along.

20210809161904_1.jpg

The Norse have essentially been thrown out of England, but have taken over Ireland instead. Oh, and if you're wondering where the Scottish capital is, would you believe Iceland, of all places?

20210809161938_1.jpg

The north hasn't really changed all that much, save for the formation of the Kingdom of Sweden.

20210809161959_1.jpg

Central Europe has essentially blown up. None of the usual powers have been all that stable, and they've been paying for it.

20210809162045_1.jpg

North Africa, on the other hand, has more or less been solid. But once I get things going, that might change...

20210809162141_1.jpg

20210809162150_1.jpg

Khazaria, the Byzantines, and the Abbasids have all been steady. Same old, same old.

20210809162208_1.jpg

Nobody's really been able to consolidate power in East Africa yet, apart from Nubia and Kanem. Might be another possibility for expansion.

20210809162237_1.jpg

The Kirgiz have lost a bit of land in the middle of the steppe, but have plenty of strength still.

20210809162244_1.jpg

Tibet is still looking like a bunch of shrapnel, with minor powers jockeying for position.

20210809162302_1.jpg

Quite a few Kingdom titles inhabit India, but the subcontinent is still far from unified. Much like the rest of the world, come to think of it.
