Better spawns and paint scheme saving, make the game substantially better. I am also using one of the HUD mods. It's surprising how much a few little tweaks improve the game.

It IS amazing how small tweaks really improve the game. This game definitely needed some more polishing before release, thank the modders for their help.

The Enhanced HUD with the increased zoom is a game changer. Helps to avoid every confrontation being a circle strafe brawl.

With Better Spawns, enemies spawn in via Dropships that typically drop them further away rather than tanks and mechs just sprouting up from the ground around you. You can still occasionally spot instant spawns from a distance at enemy garrisons at bases.

Depending on terrain, you can still get surprised if a lance of assaults gets dumped on the other side of a hill. Makes the game feel more realistic to me. On Raid contracts, in particular, I'd snipe a raid target at 800m and suddenly have 20 tanks and mechs within 200m of me out of nowhere. Better Spawns is much better.

Won´t make a new thread since these are for BT related stuff mostly, but there is a rather good new mech game called Daemon X Machina. For people who like mecha anime like Gundam it is awesome. You can use many kinds of weapons, from assault rifles and RPG launchers to beam weapons... and swords, with sword clashes included

I saw that Baradul was doing a series on that game. I am intrigued. Ill have to check it out more and see if it is something I might want to try.

I recommend it if you thought MW5 was too slow paced. It´s an action game with light sim elements, like too much weight making you sluggish. So you have some tough choices on equipment in some missions.

I like how MW5 feels in game, I just got bored with the presentation and a bit off put with the UI.

I'm going to try to get back into MW5, however if I can't get into the swing of things, I am going to check out Daemon X.

Since Daemon X Machina was brought up, I'll just say it's basically a spiritual successor to the Armored Core series, for those who are familiar with it. It's much more "anime" than BattleTech games.

MW5 has the unfortunate distinction to be the only BattleTech game that I've never finished. Going back to Crescent Hawks, mind you.

It isn't that it's terrible, its that it is just not that memorable or fun for me. Thank Heavens for HBS BattleTech, or I'd be without an outlet for my mech addiction.

I feel the same about MW5. I mean, I've played other BT games far more basic (like MW2), and yet I find them more engaging. I know a lot of it is nostalgia, however I assumed my love of the franchise would carry me through MW5 even if it was lacking. In kind of surprised that didn't happen.

I'll give MW5 another chance, I've just been slow to do it.

Yeah, at rep 12 I started losing interest. When the waves are like, 3 assault mechs it´s a PITA. Every bloody mission losing weapons in arms, and the dumb allied AI doing way too little.

With so many new releases in the next months, I dunno if I will finish it. Maybe just watch Baradul´s videos lol

When I got to level 10, I realize the key for me to gain any further levels was to better position my three Lancemates and then to move them from Engagement Zone to Engagement Zone, tempting the AI into fights only I could win.

I did not always succeed but at that level I found the game malleable enough to gain enough local overmatch with Win and keep it fresh.

Of course then I dove back into BATTLETECH, and now we are pushing for @bloodydoves Clan Mod and I’ve not been back to MW5.

But then for me, BATTLETECH has that effect and it came as no surprise that I was enticed back to the realm of Mech Melee, turn-based gaming and Team HBS/Paradox.

I almost quitted by the end. Those spawns after completing the objective...
But i pushed to the end with the tips given here. The AI Lancemates are morons. Equip their mechs almost only with long range weaponry. This way they actually help and don´t get shot too much. You must be the tank and DPS for the lance though... I used max armor and dual AC20.

I had good success using a high-DPS Mech myself and high-Armor Mechs for my Lancemates. Then I would rotate them through Point-man duty to trigger AI “pods” while I and their fellows crushed the now unhinged AI Mechs. Then I would put the Damaged Mech toward the Rear and put on point the best armored of the remaining Mechs.

Rinse Repeat, Rimse Repear...

No, an AI Mech will not set the world on fire with its Tactical Brilliance or Combat Savvy, but with my Logitech Gaming Pad I was able to snap out Scheme of Maneuver commands smoothly enough to run routinely successful missions.

See, I find the AI lancemates are bad with long range weapons or anything except lasers.... I have this sweet Archer build yet when given to my lancemates they seem to not want to use the LRMS...

Still plugging away at MW5. The difficulty level as you get up the ranks is ridiculous though. They throw everything including the kitchen sink at you, and they can beat you with sheer numbers...

Mods have helped tremendously but really need some DLCs to add some new mission types (could use escort missions, duel situations, a speed focused mission so you can use your lights, etc.) and hopefully some more "Flashpoint" esque story missions to flesh out the proceedings.

I finished Daemon X Machina but I´m too lazy to finish this one lol. I´m at rep 12, is the story worth it at least? Else I´ll go play HOI 4.

I am not a first person shooter enthusiast but I managed to complete MW5 last night. Is it worth finishing??? For me yeah, I enjoyed the missions leading up to the final showdown and the opening cinematic of the final mission. The final mission itself, not so much. It’s just a crazy slugfest in which your head capping skills better be on point and your luck in. I had some ridiculous amount of mech kills at the end. I just wish the game had some other way to scale other than just throw more and more waves of larger mechs all at the same time. Once the missions get above 90 having 30-40 or more kills is pretty normal. I just killed 10 mechs and 30 tanks. When you consider a clan trial of position or when Kia Allard liao tested out in the initial clan invasion book which name elludes me at the moment. Seems a little excessive.

I'm guessing you are referring to Phelan Wolf's trials (with Natasha Kerensky on his side!) from the novel 'Lethal heritage', where it was considered almost unique for a warrior (the Black widow, in this case) to kill 4 enemies in single battle.
Killing 30-40 enemies just sounds ridiculous by comparison.

Sounds like a cheap and lazy way to increase challenge...

How moddable is the game? Is there no way to reduce the numbers and up the difficulty of the opposition?
