Ever wondered what it takes to work at Colossal Order? Find out as @co_martsu talks about the challenges and benefits of hiring modders from the community!

------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

We’re back! It’s been far too long since we’ve shared anything, but we want to return to regular updates again. What a year and a half it has been… We hope you all are doing well!

We’ve been working hard on stuff. We are also always looking for talented people to join the team. And what better place to go looking for talent in than the Cities: Skylines modding community! We’ve already had several modders join us to work different roles previously, and we thought we’d share some of those stories. Maybe this will inspire you to make your hobby into a profession, too?

In 2019, we celebrated Colossal Order’s 10th anniversary, and arranged a Modder Meetup here in Tampere, Finland. We invited over 20 community members to learn more about us and to give an inside look at the company, but also to hear from them: What do they hope to see in the future that would help them unleash their creativity even further?

Throwback to our 10 year anniversary celebrations

For us, this was also a great opportunity to encourage people to apply for a position on the dev team. We had of course already promoted open jobs in the past, and got TPB to join us a year before the meet, but the event really piqued interest in the community, and we received several great job applications.

In late 2019, we welcomed Boformer to our team. Both TPB and Boformer work as programmers, and they already got to showcase their skills on Sunset Harbor. BadPeanut joined us in 2020 as an artist. Our most recent addition to the team from the community is Avanya, to work as a link between the devs and you.

So, maybe right now you’re wondering what it takes to work with us? Here goes: The most important things are relevant skills, and the ability to work well as a member of a team. How the skills have been acquired does not matter. Formal education or self-learning by modding are equally valid. We benefit from hiring modders since they already have a deep understanding of the games we make and an obvious interest towards the simulation genre.

The potentially challenging sides of coming to work with us include relocating to Finland and moving from the modder mindset to one where there are clear deadlines and budgets to consider. That said, we’ve been super happy with our new team members, and hope to hear from more modders who are looking forward to utilising their skills in a professional setting.

So, if you feel like Colossal Order might be your future workplace, please send us your application, CV and portfolio at jobs@colossalorder.fi

We’ll also be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Apart from ones relating to our currently ongoing projects, of course.

On behalf of the entire team at Colossal, all the best, and until next time from Mariina, CEO.
