This mod is not up to date with the current version of CK2.
Short Description
This mod enables the enatic and enatic cognatic succession laws, while also dramatically improving the mechanics of non-male preferential realms so that the game doesn't act like it's still another agnatic or agnatic-cognatic realm. At the same time, it doesn't change how the game is played in an agnatic or agnatic-cognatic realm. Vassals you give land to will match your gender law group, women ask for titles in enatic realms, vassals don't mind female rulers if they're using an appropriate succession law, and there will be huge tentions with your vassals if they don't have the same gender succession law group as you.
Detailed Description
For anyone who's tried modding in the variations of enatic succession, or really played with absolute cognatic, you've probably noticed that the vast majority of the game's mechanics don't effectively deal with this kind of succession. You're still using men for all your counselor positions, and your sons still demand land for themselves while the women just carry on for the most part as if nothing has changed.
This mod makes it so that all your jobs other than the Lord Spiritual can be given out based on what type of succession you have. Both men and women if cognatic, only men if either type of agnatic, only women if either type of enatic (unless they have a special flag). They'll also all ask to replace your current adviser if they're better suited for the position. Close female relatives will also request land if you have a succession law that lets them be given it, and men won't ask at all if you have a type of enatic succession.
You can also change which succession law you have across the whole spectrum so long as you aren't Muslim, Tengri, or a republic. For now, there is no restriction beyond playing as a woman if you want to push towards enatic, and playing as a man if you want to push towards agnatic. Switching between agnatic and agnatic-cognatic or enatic and enatic-cognatic has no restrictions other then you can't disenfranchised yourself.
The base game is otherwise completely unaltered, beyond Basque having absolute cognatic law by default early on, and the cathars no longer getting free use of women in counselor positions. Instead, they have a special decision that lets them switch to absolute cognatic succession at any time if they don't have it already.
There are also new decisions for employing stewards, soldiers, and a young nobleman depending on your gender law. I've also set it up so that women can become adventurers in Absolute cognatic or enatic style realms, who will try to make their own enatic realms. The claim CB has been altered to disallow men pushing weak claims on women without another reason in cognatic or enatic realms, while women can use weak claims on men for no other reason in enatic realms. I've also changed claimant factions slightly, so they use the same rules.

Changelog
V2,0 (15-7-2015):
- Fixed Norse God localisation error.
- Fixed bug in ambitions that stopped tribes from taking either "Get married" or "Gain a title".
- Faction claim CB now follows gender law rules of other claim CBs.
- Fixed error in deciding whether or not women and men were valid for enatic or agnatic claimant factions.
- Removed date restriction on adventurers (were set to be only possible after Old Gods start date).
- Fixed some counsellor bugs (added in hiding restriction, allowed spouses and parents to be spymasters)
- Fixed a rare bug where a non-feudal character is upset at their liege for having a different gender succession law would not have the opinion removed.
- Setup events cover nomadic rulers (forced agnatic).
- Added decisions to hire female soldiers (enatic and female preferred realms) and random gender soldiers (truly equal realms).
- Enforce gender law decisions now filter for court only, same as blinding and castrating. This has lead to much better performance.
- Various faction updates, may have missed some things.
- Updated CBs to new patch.
- Updated landed titles.
- Updated a number of ambition things.
- Updated religions.
- Updated counsellor jobs.
- Updated crown laws.
- Updated demesne laws.
- Updated succession laws.
- Updated decisions folder.
- Updated assume gender law decisions.
- Updated events.
- Updated minor titles.
- Split off Lollard feudal temples mod from Better Gender Law Mod. The two mods are fully compatible with one another.
- Titles that were given out to alternative heirs through gavelkind still use the default succession law.
- When using the change gender law decisions, the list of successors is not refreshed. In non-elective realms, you will either need to reload, wait for your ruler to die, or have a child for this to change. In elective ones, the only issue is that votes for candidates that don't qualify for the title will maintain their votes until their supporters change their votes to someone else.
- Under Free Investiture Law, women cannot be appointed as successors to bishoprics in Lilithian realms.
- Sons generate landless son prestige loss regardless of gender law.
- Landless men can be granted titles under enatic and enatic-cognatic succession even without a claim on the title. The AI will give out land to men over women no mater what gender law they're using.
- Random female Councillors are all age 30.
- The investiture system is hardcoded to only allow men to be appointed as successors. Female priest religions can still get randomly generated female priests.
- When voting in elective realms, AI controlled rulers will always prefer male candidates over female ones when not voting for landed rulers or with their liege.
- AI controlled characters in Enatic and cognatic realms will still prefer regular marriages over matrilineal ones after themselves and their immediate heir and are very bad at keeping their dynasty in power.
V1,99 (17-12-2014):
- Added pleonasticity's gender law icons.
- Changed assume gender law decisions for AI vassals to not be available for tribals (bug in a situation where a non-agnatic ruler ruled over tribal vassals).
- Updated improve attribute ambitions for "Way of Life"
- Updated for Charlemagne and Way of Life patches.
- Added pagan conversion decisions for Maryite and Lilithian spouses
- Women adventurers won't be quite so common now, I neglected to removed my increased chance of them spawning from when I was first testing it.
- Can now freely change gender preference in cognatic realms. It was possible to inherit other gender preference laws from other characters or wind up with the wrong law in some way.
- Event reminding you to set your gender preference law comes up less often. If you're voting on a law when this event comes up choose "not now".
- Temporary fix for Great Holy War trigger event only applying to men until this is fixed in the base game.
- Gave Maryites a Virgin Mary Flag. Image was acquired from chantalstainedglass.50megs.com The in game image is slightly squashed.
- Small change to the have son/daughter ambitions using the new versions of these ambitions in the base game.
- Testing updated religious interface.
- Update landed titles file to new version of base game.
- Update pilgrimage events and decision files to new version of base game.
- Added two new minor titles for christians that can only be given to women, they become available as you move towards female preference.
- Seneschal is now giveable to women if you have at least absolute cognatic, and cannot be given to men if you have enatic or enatic-cognatic.
- Master of the Horse and Master of the hunt are lost as you move towards enatic.
- The venerable elder title is no longer only givable to men.
- The champion title is like the seneschal title.
- Hirdman is like the seneschal title.
- Generic pagans have two new female only titles that slowly replace master of the blade and master of the bow as you move towards enatic.
- Undid the vanilla change that made the cupbearer title unavailable to women.
- Still unchanged are Zoroastrian, Indian, and Byzantine minor titles and a female only Norse title will probably be added later.
- Solved a very strange issue with the Maryite Matriarchy, I have no idea how it was screwed up, but apparently changing the date in the history file from 20 to 21 solved the issue. Note that this only fixes new games, for old ones, open the console and type 'event BGL.168' to create the Maryite Matriarchy.
- The Manichean Zoroastrian heresy now allows female priests and prefers absolute-cognatic succession with male preference (note that they're the one Zoro heresy that doesn't have divine blood or allow concubines in the base game).
- Made it so that holy orders can spawn for Maryites and Lilithians.
- Added an alert decision/event to tell the player to choose a gender preference under cognatic, and an option to trigger voting on the law.
- Accidentally broke ambitions, they're fixed now.
- Your spouse won't take the ambition to gain a title any more.
- Fixed the issue of rulers always switching gender law when their liege has a different one. They will now, correctly, only switch their gender law if they were recently given their title, if gender forcing mode is on, or if they're baron tier.
- Fixed cognatic gender favoured laws so that they can't be changed after being enacted.
- Steward employment decisions now bring in the favoured gender character in cognatic realms. You still get a random gender if you pick no favour.
- Added events for women to legitimize their bastard children, if:
-The father is unlanded.
-Either the mother is landed, her liege has female preferential succession, or her liege has absolute cognatic and the same dynasty as her.
Note: that there is a small bug in that the game doesn't recalculate succession after a child is legitimized. If you save and reload, this issue will be fixed.
- Cognatic realms can now also designate a gender that is given a bit of preferential treatment over the other.
-If male favoured, then women can't be chancellor or martial (or lead armies).
-If female favoured, then men can't be chancellor or steward.
-Ambitions to gain a title, or a specific possition are modified by this preference.
-Factions are less likely to favour claimants that don't match their gender preference.
-Independent AI rulers will opt for male favoured unless they're either Cathar or Messelian. In that case, they go for true equality.
- Updated mod for patch 2.1.4, making Indian holy orders able to attack within their religion group.
- Updated Counselor jobs to the new patch. Also added in the missing Indian religion conditions.
- Figured out a crude fix for the female mayors and Maryite religious heads deleting all their cash on succession.
- Added in the Buddhist Ambitions (sorry I missed these earlier)
- Updated a lot of the things in the mod to the new beta version. You can play this mod just fine with or without the beta patch.
- Made the two new main game heresies able to properly go on pilgrimages to the Orthodox sites. (this is not in the base game yet)
- Added in the Orthodox Heresy Maryite, another female preferential fantasy heresy. They allow for female priests, use Orthodox mechanics, and their religious head is always female.
- A few changes to the marry a ruler ambition.
- Fixed a few issues with female adventurers, they should hopefully now actually have enatic-cognatic succession in their newly carved out lands. Note that they still cannot actually turn into adventurers without being in a realm that is at least absolute cognatic.
- Got validator working again, and fixed a missing bracket in the opinion maintenance files.
- Bogamists, Messalians, and Buddhists may now employ female spiritual advisers.
- All female characters of religions that can employ female spiritual advisers can now take the ambition to become the spiritual advisor.
- Men older then 50 and women older then 40 can no take the ambition to gain a title. Being over 60 and 45 respectively cause the ambition to fail.
- Parents will not ask for titles from their kids any more.
- Fixed agnatic and enatic successions missing from the list of possible gender successions.
- Fixed the negative opinion for having a female heir not being removed properly.
- Fixed error in become heir ambition, women wanted to become heir in agnatic realms when the heir was male and vise versa.
- Cleaned up the have a child ambitions to work better with allowing women to take the male child ambition.
- Fixed random Female mayors not appearing in enatic-cognatic realms.
- Random female mayors are now lowborn, they also spawn between 26 and 45 years old.
- Women can now take the "Have a son" ambition.
- The employ a random gender steward decision now works properly.
- Male priests from religions that prefer cognatic or enatic don't mind female rulers or rulers with female heirs.
- Female priests from religions that prefer enatic don't like male rulers and rulers with male heirs.
- The vassal forcing decision is now a cheat action that requires a console only event to enable. To add or remove the option from the intrigue menu, open the console and type in "event BGL.165"
- Vassal non-merchant mayors use gender laws equal to their lieges.
- Added female baron level mayors. When you load this patch, about half of your mayors in your realm will be replaced with female ones. All of them will be replaced in enatic realms. Currently they're generated with dynasties, this will be fixed in a later patch.
- For now, all randomly generated female mayors, stewards, and priests are all 30 years old. This way they're closer to the same age as the randomly generated male ones. They will have a more random distribution of ages later on.
- Fixed the wrong gender law removal event, it now removes the right opinion modifier.
- Added in search tags for the mod on Steam workshop.
- Updated mod to the new patch.
- Most updates to ambitions and factions included in mod.
- Factions will support old women, if they have children.
- Most religions are marked as feminist in the game files, the mod uses it's own version of the wrong gender liege modifiers. Muslims have been left alone.
- Bogomilists, Messalians, and Buddhists now randomly employ male or female priests.
- Females who qualify for the job of spiritual advisor will ask to take on that job if they're of the female priest religions. (Lilithians were missing from this list previously)
- Lollard Temples mod has been included in this mod.
- Messalians and Bogomilists can use the cathar decision to become absolute cognatic at any time. Localization has been updated to make the decision more generic.
- Reverted gender law decisions to use "gender_succ" instead of "add_law". add_law decisions cannot be enacted.
- Fixed a bug that prevented women from losing the "Wrong gender law" opinion of their liege.
- Lilithians now use catholic religious mechanics, including a college of cardinals. Note that there does seem to be some slowdown once the office is set up, and that you cannot appoint women as successors under free investiture. Randomly generated priests can still be women.
- Numerous bug fixes. Includes making it so that the new priest hiring event actually has a 50% chance of producing either a male or female priest. The mod has also now been put through the validator.
- Feudal lords now strongly object to their liege having a different kind of gender succession then they do. This causes a -50 opinion penalty.
- Lieges can now enforce their type of gender succession on their vassals of the same religion through a special decision if they've imprisoned them, similar to forced conversions. Using it will free the vassal.
- Religions that can have female priests have a 50% chance of hiring a female priest when inviting a priest to court.
- There is a new fantasy heresy for miaphysites called Lilithian. It is identical to Miaphysites except that it allows female priests, feudal lords that follow it have a special decision they can use to switch to enatic-cognatic succession (similar to the Cathar decision to switch to absolute-cognatic), and the head of the church does not exist at the beginning of the game.
- The Lilithian Papacy can be created by a decision that requires you hold Alexandria and having at least 1000 piety.
- There is a special decision for restoring the Lilithian Papacy to the temple of Alexandria.
- AI cathar and lilithian lords are less likely to change their succession laws if they have different religion feudal vassals that they can likely demand conversions from.
- Do not open the console and type in "event BGL.164"
- AI rulers will now correctly always assume the gender law of their liege on setup if they didn't choose default.
- Only barons automatically assume the same gender law as their liege
- Count and duke vassals will assume the same gender law as their liege if they were recently given a county or duchy respectively
- A special cheat mode has been added that forces all count and duke vassals in the world to assume the same gender law as their liege while it is enabled, toggled in the decision menu
- There is now an intro event that lets you switch to absolute cognatic or enatic cognatic when the game starts, your vassals will be given the same laws.
- Basque rulers will opt to be absolute cognatic at game start
- Male rulers no longer object to having female rulers or rulers with female heirs if they don't have agnatic or agnatic-cognatic succession
- Female rulers now object to having male rulers or rulers with male heirs if they have enatic or enatic cognatic succession
- Factions are now only unlikely to support female claimants if the would-be members have agnatic or agnatic-cognatic succession, and are unlikely to support male claimants if they have enatic or enatic-cognatic succession
- The cathar now have a decision to assume absolute cognatic succession if they're either independent, or have a cathar liege with absolute cognatic, which the ai will always take if it can
- Fix for claiment factions, so factions for claiments other then those with strong claims are now possible
- First release
