Today we'll be looking at progress on the mod so far, and what will be happening down the line. Currently, we have filled in over 50% of the map, including much of Africa, the Near East and Europe. (The exact list of de jure kingdoms can be found below). Recently, we have been fixing bugs (once you start debugging, you begin to wonder how the vanilla game runs at all!), and we are considering making the first alpha release for people to try out. As of now, the mod is purely added history, (i.e. the 1400 start date), with no added events or flavour. Would you be interested in seeing an early release like this?

The provinces coloured in red are accounted for and playable (obviously excluding non-playable government types). Incomplete provinces are in the colour of their de jure kingdom, but this is just the 1066 de jure kingdom map, so it does not necessarily represent how the de jure kingdoms will look in 1400.

And here you can see the world in 1400!

(The Teutonic State still needs fixing- the title history has all been written, but we are just waiting for the characters to be uploaded)

As you can see, there is already a lot of land covered, so there is plenty to enjoy while we continue to work on it. In terms of filling in the map, the Timurid Empire will be a priority once the last few provinces in the HRE are finished. Timur currently only controls his easternmost provinces, but once complete, his empire should stretch all the way to the eastern end of the map. His importance is not just in that he has a huge empire- his war with the Ottomans brought them to their knees, which allowed the Byzantine Empire to last a few decades longer. Without this intervention, it is probably that the Ottomans will invariably conquer Constantinople early on in the game, since they start at war over it. But more on that in a future Dev Diary!

If we did release the mod in this state (once the major bugs have been fixed and the HRE is complete), we would shift our focus from adding history to a balance of adding relevant content (The Renaissance will be the first thing to tackle) and gradually adding history. While this would restrict the initial number of starting rulers, most people prefer to play in the western half of the map in general, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. Let us know what you think!

Edit: Here's the list of completed de jure kingdoms-

What's with that strip of English land cutting off Flanders?

There was some logic behind that, but the person who did that area hasn't been around so much recently, so I will attempt to resolve it. Essentially, Marie (controller of the strip of land) was the daughter of Enguerrand VII de Coucy, who held lands in France but was also granted the Earldom of Bedford by the King of England, which kind of justifies making him an English vassal. Of course, CK2 isn't equipped to deal with having multiple lieges, so it is an imperfect compromise. However, de Coucy gave up the title in 1377, so really Marie should be a French vassal, so that will change in the next update.

Understood, and it's a sensible compromise as obviously you don't want Bedford being part of France, so I get where you're coming from.

But yeah, giving Marie the title and making her a French vassal is probably better.
