Welcome to TIP II, a database and historical improvement mod for Crusader Kings III
DOWNLOAD LINK

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CONTENT LIST BELOW IS VERY OUT OF DATE - PLEASE SEE 'FEATURES' PAGE ON STEAM WORKSHOP LINK ABOVE ^

Note: TIP II is fully compatible with the Community Flavor Pack -- however, it is not recommended to be used alongside other gameplay mods. Please do not report issues with the mod if you have other mods enabled as I can't guarantee compatibility.

A couple of people have asked me to combine my existing religious mods so they're usable together, and I also wanted to create a platform for adding general improvements and database fixes. In an effort to accomplish this I've decided to release a gradual conversion of CK II's TIP mod for CK III. Please bear in mind that this is a work in progress and only a moderate amount has been done so far - however, with the focus of CK III being purely on 867 and 1066 there's far less work to be done.

As with the original, the aim of this mod is to improve the history database, correct bugs and localization errors, and add new and interesting content to the game.

I've been posting suggestions and bug reports steadily since the game was released, and those have formed the bulk of the content so far, alongside interesting ideas and fixes posted by other members of the community.

This current public release is v1.9, which adds the following:
  • new empire: the Baltic Empire
  • new kingdoms: Iceland and the Isles
  • new duchies: Strathclyde, Francia and Morgannwg
  • new counties: Perche, Chiny, Gaeta, Porhoët, Turenne, Fézensac, Dax, Kildare, Meath, Offaly, Antrim, Down, West Connacht, Hy Many, Iarmond, Tyrone and Tyrconnell
  • new religions: Arianism, Docetism, Marcionism, Mithraism, Bacchism, Orphism, Pythagoreanism, Fyrnsidu (Germanic paganism), Euskal (Basque paganism), and Gaelic & Gaulish (Celtic paganism)
  • new dynasties and cadet branches
  • hundreds of new historical characters
  • new coats of arms
  • new nicknames
  • new decisions: Unite the East Slavs, Restore the Kingdom of the Isles and Raise an Irminsul
  • new cultures: Mizrahi, Crimean Gothic, Arpitan, Pyu, Arberian, Carantanian, Egyptian Coptic, Dalmatian, Venetian, Icelandic and Norse-Gaelic
  • new innovations: Basque Whaling, Routiers, Gothic Legacy, Gallowglass Septs, Mountain Clans, Viri Devoti, Balkan Mercenary Traditions, Ta-Seti, Desert Rangers, Celtic Chieftains, Mamluks, Marine Infantry and Fianna
  • new cultural Men-at-Arms: Gallowglass, Gothic Infantry, Mountain Warriors, Langobardi, Stratioti, Nubian Archers, Medjay, Teulu, Mamluks and Fanti da Mar
  • new holy order Men-at-Arms: Einherjar and War Chariots
  • new custom localization and culture titles
  • improved name lists for numerous cultures
  • updated several religions (improved tenets and laws, new character death text, bug fixes, etc.)
  • feudal elective succession for the Byzantine Empire and male-only succession for Navarre
  • database corrections
  • minor AI improvements
  • scenario bookmark screen improvements
  • de jure improvements (e.g. Bar > Lotharingia; Croatia > Carpathia; Sicily > Italia)
  • religious improvements (e.g. Mu'tazilism exists in 867; Turks are now Maturidi instead of Ash'ari, Basque paganism is present)
  • culture improvements (e.g. Estonians now have Longships and can raid; Dutch and Frisian properly implemented)
  • balance improvements (e.g. removed Svend Estridsen's claim on Norway; gave the Byzantines feudal elective succession)
  • family tree fixes
  • bug fixes
  • localization fixes (lots of incorrect holding names corrected thanks to community feedback)
  • removed the Norman and Norwegian invasions - this is more of a subjective change, but I don't like the way they work and don't think the game engine handles them very well; it is still fairly simple to start a claim war and conquer England as either William or Harald if you want to, as you're smarter than the AI and can use marriage alliance exploits
I have also added, updated or otherwise corrected playable rulers in numerous areas. Examples of newly playable counts in 1066 include:
  • Albret
  • Béziers
  • Bigorre
  • Foix
  • Comminges
  • Kammersberg
  • Valence
  • Wiltberg
  • Zollern
  • Lippe
  • Tecklenburg

There are other minor changes as well, and for a more comprehensive changelog please view the Discussions tab of the Workshop page. The mod can be downloaded here and will be Steam-only for the time being.

I hope some of you decide to give this a go. In anticipation of any questions; I get no errors from loading this mod on its own, and I haven't tried it with any other mods. You do so at your own risk, and I'm not going to ensure compatibility with any other mods. I'll try to keep this updated fairly regularly and would appreciate user feedback and suggestions. Using the original TIP as a source means I have plenty of CK database work already done, it's just a case of how quickly I'm able to port it over as part of future updates.

I hope you enjoy it!

Estonia is in the Baltic empire, is this a joke? I'm genuinely curious what motivated you to make such an ahistorical and illogical decision?
I did it to infuriate Estonians!

No, it's because I split the 'Southern Baltic Empire' back into the Wendish Empire and a new Baltic Empire, and I wanted Estonia to be a part of that rather than the Wendish one or Scandinavia. I also moved Estonia to the Northern Europe region so they can access Longships, and gave them that as a cultural innovation.

Sorry you don't like the change, but that's my reasoning for it.

...I studied Northern-European history in uni in Stockholm (I'm Swedish), focusing on the viking age. Estonia not being in Scandinavia makes zero sense, it belongs there in many ways more than Finland in the CK timeframe. The archaeological culture in Estonia and Scandinavia was identical and nothing ties Estonians with the Balts.

Like I said, I am genuinely interested about finding any logical argument to place Estonians together with the Balts when they were a part of the Nordic cultural zone in every possible way even before the viking age. This is the same if you would place Denmark into the German empire and not Scandinavia because Denmark has a land border with Germany but not with Scandinavia...

I'm not even joking, do you even know that the Estonians aren't a Baltic tribe and have had contacts with their geographically close seafaring neighbours since 2000BC? The Balts were inland people. Estonia can be "Baltic" in some cold war (even then Estonians shared more with other Nordics than the Balts, you cannot change a culture in 50 years) simulator not in a heavily culture focused game taking place in the viking age.

Estonia isn't in Scandinavia.

Neither is Finland nor Iceland. And "Baltic" as a geographical term denoted countries on the eastern shore of the Baltic sea which includes Finland which was called a Baltic country (geographically) in all documents before the 1950's.

That means that you're not basing it on geography.

I appreciate your interest but I've given my reasoning. You may find it flawed - that's fine - but I quite like it how it is now.

And I appreciate that Iceland is an awkward one that geographically doesn't fit anywhere else, but I suppose the argument there (at least from Paradox's perspective) would be that it was ruled by Norsemen and at times under Norwegian control. A related discussion would be Orkney being a de jure part of Scandinavia vs. Britannia.

If you decide to try the mod I hope you enjoy it, although I'll assume you're not going to.

I'm Scandinavian, studied Nordic history in uni and I won't use a mod that is immersion breaking and places a technically "Scandinavian culture/area" into some unrelated Balt empire. So yes, anyone familiar with Northern-European history will find your decision quite odd.

I am amazed how rude people can be towards mod creators who work for free. If you dislike choices the mod author made, you can in my opinion ask nicely for changes but shouldn't be demanding because at the end of the day it's the author's work.
