Seems likely to me that the only reason the Raven is part of DLC at all is that the ECM rules add enough of a layer on top of existing rules that they felt it only made sense in an expansion (newcomers have enough trouble getting up to speed already).

Yeah, the fact that the Raven is so closely tied to specific mechanics definitely makes it a special case. I'm imagining someone new to the game coming into an engagement and suddenly discovering a lot of the ways they've learned about how to play the game have stopped working with no explanation: they'd be pissed and probably rightly so.

It would also go against a key feature of HBS's design philosophy. It would be a shame for all that work Kiva did during development to make sure the game was communicating everything that was happening clearly got broken by a free update.

Attaching the Raven and its mechanics to a specific DLC just makes more and more sense the longer I think about it.

Ask Yang to stick them together back-to-back and they'll make a quad. Of sorts :) Gotta be ingenious when you're a quad-lover!

I'm desperately trying to tell myself that you're not engaging in innuendo.

I don't think I'm succeeding.

:p

I hadn't noticed that they specified the variant, but this seems like an extremely plausible theory to me. We'll find out in a little over a month.

Either way, I don't think it sets a precedent for the Warhammer and Marauder, since they don't require any additional rules. I think those will be released for free at the same time as Heavy Metal, with the expansion providing additional Unseen.

They could provide a non-ECM variant of the Raven for non-DLC buyers though (doesn't effect me either way, as I will certainly be buying this DLC ;) ).

Yes. The theory that they might do so is exactly what I was responding to... I think that is exactly what will happen.

Not that it matters to me either... I've ALREADY bought the DLC, since I went with the season pass as a matter of pure reflex.

Noted in a previous post, that was an editing error. There is no mini-campaign.
Well it wasn't noted to me. Disappointed. It seemed pretty specific for an editing error.. Andurian conflict.. Etc well the biome looks very nice. However I'm hardly the only Battletech fan who likes a narrative surely?

The mini-campaign being an editing mistake broke my heart...

I can only hope the mistake was announcing it early, and that we´ll get it in DLC 3.

For my money it sounds like it may just have been a brief description of one of the flashpoints because "mini-campaign" does kind of describe a flashpoint.

I am one of a few players that have been stuck at version 1.1.2 by the lighting texture bug affecting Intel graphics cards (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...e-1-2-mech-lighting-graphical-issues.1116636/). I have been hoping with each of the updates to hear that it has finally been fixed. Is this new expansion going to be compatible with old versions like 1.1.2, or am I out of luck?
It would probably require version 1.6 (or whatever version the base game will be when UW is released), so, no. It will most likely not be compatible with older versions like 1.1.2.

Well that is exactly what I thought and I'd say it's pretty obvious that's the case. It's just a shame as, as entertaining as the flashpoints are I miss the comic artwork and the voice overs from the campaign, yet of course campaigns are limited in scope and of course I play predominantly the career mode. . but a mini campaign sounded like.. Well, just how I wanted the game to develop. Anyway no point moaning, the trailer looks pretty badass and I'm sure they'll be some surprises.

The Rotunda is there because it has an Active Probe (non-canon, as far as I can tell), much like the Packrat is there because its OP/COMTES com suite can provide "local ECM coverage" (sarna.net entry for Packrat).

The Gallant is probably there because it "was intended as a niche product for the specific role of urban warfare and infantry support." (sarna.net entry for Gallant).

While there are indeed a lot of vehicles that are yet to be added, if one adds the prerequisites "has active probe", "has ECM", or "is an Urban Warfare specialist", the list becomes significantly shorter.

I'm good with the vehicles included (and will kill the Gallant with extreme prejudice any time I encounter one).
I get it, they wanted to slap an "active probe" on a Star League Era recon vehicle, so they chose the Rotunda, rather than something like the Skulker. Then no reason to stop there, add the Star League Era Gallant as it looks cool like something straight out of the Aliens movie, rather than something like the Hetzer or Ontos. I just personally would prefer more 3025/3026 vehicles.

That said, I know I'll still have fun.

I'm wondering about the short cuts of in-cockpit MW in the trailer. Was that just for the trailer or part of some FP with a video to play like in the main campaign?

I appreciate the work HareBrained has put into this IP. They have worked to bring the table top version to PC. City fights are nasty and the environment can be ... explosive and crushing. I'm happy to see new Mechs and tanks also. While I have preferences for the next Mechs to be released, I'll take what they've worked on and not whine that they didn't do exactly what I wanted.

It's all about the EW suites being added. ECM, Beagle Active Probe etc etc. All the units are built around getting those systems into the game in both mech and vehicle form.

By adding urban warfare we are getting closer to having all the diverse environments needed in our sandbox for grander narratives.

Screencapped the UI. Looks like two new icons on the left and above the units relate to EW. Also, the bottom right corner looks like something cool has been cut just out of frame below the DFA line. Also, the pips over the units been shortened and the phase bar chevrons now resemble the BATTLETECH logo A or LCAF/AFFC ranking from MC. There is also a blue line on the ground that seems to line up with what I'm guessing is the EW sphere. Anyone else spot new stuff in here? There is also a normal looking contact in the upper right.

One other thing I never thought about, we'd be traveling on roads all the time and would get the distance bonus, so everyone (looking at you Urbies) would be moving a bit father in the city.

Looks like this sign says "CERES METALS" and some of the other signs are almost readable. It would be crazy (but not expected) if which company was displayed was contextual to the faction's world you were fighting on, so Ceres on CC worlds, Federated in FS worlds.
