Ok so lemme get this straight. The backers are paying for the Raven twice now? I'm excited to see it finally in the game but come on now. Does that mean we are paying for the Marauder and Warhammer again further down the line?

I think these are valid concerns as well and should be addressed.

Best case scenario? The Raven is added to the base game separate from the rest of it - much as Career Mode was added independent of Flashpoint.

So assuming Paradox (formerly HBS) would not be so scummy to remove a promised mech from release, then later force people to pay money for it. The Raven will be free update. So the DLC is only coming with the Javelin.

And urban environments, perhaps, and the Flashpoints (which might be separate from the Flashpoint DLC), the vehicles . . . and possibly the deeper EW equipment offerings.

We need more info, before I start selling ER Pitchforks.

Was expecting way more than this. :end complaint:

Eh, with all the extra stuff I got in the Kickstarter I already more than paid for the base game twice, and am very happy with my investment. Since I got the season pass I’m up to at least thrice.

Possibly ... frice? Quice?

HBS has a pretty good track record of still giving people on the base game nice things, like career mode. You seem to think we’re in the road to 5$ individual mech packs when there’s no evidence that’s the case.

I think that is a fair point.
Additional mech types should be a bit more of a bit of icing on a more substantial game improving / expanding DLC cake! :)

Extra Mech types can always be modded in by those with the neccessary skills.

I'm going to lend my vote to "I was expecting more than this" but then, I'm not sure the scope of what was added.

I'm getting the sense the bulk of the work went into the Electronics Warfare ruleset, and the Urban "biome" for missions. Now, with the Raven there's only one model in the timeline which fits: the RVN-1X. The Javelin can include two (JVN-10N and JVN-10F). There are new vehicles included, of which there are a number of potential uses to include backwards into the rest of the game. (The Packrat is a relatively simple, fast, and effective vehicle for things like being part of a convoy early on as opposed to APCs.) While there are two 'Mechs listed, there is no indication of whether or not we may get new models of existing an 'Mech chassis. The UM-R60L UrbanMech would be a potential inclusion, for instance, and there are other options for Capellan-made hardware being added. Like the CTF-2X Cataphract, and if there's the solution to a certain piece of equipment the CTF-0X Cataphract.

Assuming we get a number of potential missions added to use the "Urban" environment like Jungle was for the Flashpoint DLC . . . that could be an amazing load of content as well. Not to mention getting to play out that defunct MechWarrior 5 teaser intro from long ago when we get the Warhammer ;)

This feels about as full in scope as the Flashpoint DLC package, but this does depend wildly on what "free" materials will be included in the accompanying major update. (Some money says the RVN-1X should be in that.)

I think it's interesting that they specifically say the Raven 1X, when Flashpoint didn't list the variants used for any of those mechs, (while Hatchetman and Crab might have had just one in-circulation mech, the Cyclops IIRC had 3) nor does Urban Warfare state what Javelin is used.

Though it would technically be anachronistic (since they didn't canoncally show up until the 4th Succession War), could it be possible that the EW-free 2X variant is going to get a free release to do right for backers, and the 1X variant is DLC exclusive?

I love how people complain about the practices of Paradox, when you have publishers like EA, Activision & Bethesda out there. Indeed, I consider Paradox to be one of the best publishers out there for not excessively bleeding customers dry once they have bought the base game.

The trailer shows one labeled as a 10N, so we know we get at least that variant. Who knows about the 10F.

Think carefully. If we get the JVN-10F that means we possibly could run into those and Jenners.

I have to admit... with all the classic vehicles still missing, I'm not happy to see the Gallant and Rotunda being added... but at least we get the Packrat!
The Rotunda is there because it has an Active Probe (non-canon, as far as I can tell), much like the Packrat is there because its OP/COMTES com suite can provide "local ECM coverage" (sarna.net entry for Packrat).

The Gallant is probably there because it "was intended as a niche product for the specific role of urban warfare and infantry support." (sarna.net entry for Gallant).

While there are indeed a lot of vehicles that are yet to be added, if one adds the prerequisites "has active probe", "has ECM", or "is an Urban Warfare specialist", the list becomes significantly shorter.

I'm good with the vehicles included (and will kill the Gallant with extreme prejudice any time I encounter one).

Be honest, we can be glad hovercraft haven't been solved yet so no Saladins bolting down Main Street behind you aren't going to happen?

We can indeed count ourselves lucky that the Savannah Master swarms are not yet fully grown. Oh, and what you said, too :)

"For the swarm."

Seems likely to me that the only reason the Raven is part of DLC at all is that the ECM rules add enough of a layer on top of existing rules that they felt it only made sense in an expansion (newcomers have enough trouble getting up to speed already). I hadn't noticed that they specified the variant, but this seems like an extremely plausible theory to me. We'll find out in a little over a month.

Either way, I don't think it sets a precedent for the Warhammer and Marauder, since they don't require any additional rules. I think those will be released for free at the same time as Heavy Metal, with the expansion providing additional Unseen.
