A pretty big reason to be using mek which is often getting left out of the conversation is amphibious mechanized.

Yeah. That's a whole other kettle of fish.

One day, I have to try out my idea for amphibious spam where the German panzer arm is all amphibious and doesn't even attack the Soviets overland. Instead, the entire German panzer arm lands in the Black Sea and cuts off the entire Red Army.

Shouldn't work, but I'm sure you've seen sheer surprise have it's value in actual games.

And if it does work, we can expect someone to think to themselves

2.5 x 50 x y (battalion of mot) vs 8/10/12 × 50 x y (battalion of mech)

12/8
2,5 x 50 x 8 = 1000
8 x 50 x 8 = 3200

13 x 50 x 12 = 7800

Iirc a 12/8 med 2 with 2 support is around 10k in total so its around ~20% increase.

15/5
2,5 x50 x 5 = 625
8 x 50 x 5 = 2000

13 x 50 x 15 = 9750

A med 2 15/5 with mot and inf 2 and 2-3 support companies is around 11k in total with mech it would be ~11% more expensive.

Your either burning rubber or tungsten/chromium if heavys that you probably have to buy, but double/tripple the ammount per factory tungsten/chromium then rubber.

More tanks is possible theoretical, but
not really sure your normally probably capped on tank production anyways due to resources availability.

Comparing mot to mek2, using IE2 and MT3, its +375 IC per infantry thing. In a 12/8, the motorized costs 9864 IC total, the mech costs 12864 IC. Mek adds +3K IC cost, or around 30% more. So you could field about 30% more divisions if you opted to use motorized instead. But with a 15/5, mt3+mot is 11415 ic while with mech is only +1875 IC, only about 16.5% more cost, the motorized would only allow you about 16.5% more divisions.

I'd like to add that you need a lot more Rubber for Mech than for Mot. It's only 1vs1 per factory, but a Mech3 batallion needs 5 times more IC than a mot batallion, that means 5 times more factories and Rubber to produce it in the same time. (Or even more, if you capture a lot of the Mot)

That means you have to build up a lot more Rubber before, because you dont need less planes, if you use Mech.

In my opinion Mech is not worth it. (At least for Germany)

I've done naval invasions into the USSR before in SP. It worked out pretty well. I think that the annoying hitch is that you have to annex Bulgaria and/or Romania fairly early so that you have frontage on the Black Sea as well as adequate time to build up a navy capable of achieving naval superiority in the Black Sea. I produced a task force of DD minelayers as well as a small task force of CA and DD to escort the conveys, in addition to TAC on naval/port strike missions. I suppose you could also redeploy your Baltic Sea fleet to the Black Sea before Turkey closes off the Bosphorus, but of course then you wouldn't have those ships to help defend against naval invasion in Western Europe.
