Due to popular demand I decided to play as duke Skjalg.
Part 1 of the Chronicles of Hälsingland.
This is duke Skjalg, he is the duke of Hälsingland and has direct control over the counties of Medelpad and Ångermanland. His vassals are the count of Hälsingland and the count of Rügen. As a Norwegian in Northern Sweden he is a bit of an outcast. What worries me a little about Skjalg is the fact that he is an old man with cancer. Who is also a drunk. Furthermore he has a claim on the duchy of Västergötland.
Duke Filip the Just is the current ruler of Västergötland. Let's see how long that'll last, I'll try to assassinate him so that his 3 year old son will inherit and put the duchy in a regency, allowing me to DOW for my claim. (He does have amazing stats though). (Also I don't know what's up with his messed up eye, he isn't blinded or anything).
Oh look, what a nice surprise. Almost as soon as I unpause, my 'most honourable' liege demands that I give up my duchy. Great. Obviously I politely decline.
He has twice the troops I have so I have no choice but to borrow money from the Jews and hire some mercenaries. Now both sides in this war have a comparable amount of troops. But then the king decides to call in his ally, the duke of Pskov, bringing in some ~2000 more troops.
Wow, in these first few months it would seem that luck is really on my side, not. Oh well maybe my next ruler is a bit better. However this would also mean that I lost my claim on Västergötland, as it was just a weak claim.
Long live Duke Eystein II and long may he reign.
Our people are abandoning our ancient tradition of carving runestones and have decided to write with ink and parchment instead, progress always comes at a cost I suppose.
Erik the Red has discovered Greenland, a pity that Greenland isn't on the map.
In between all these nice distracting events the war still raged on, but the messengers bring duke Eystein with good news. The first battle of the war was won and the enemy routed. Our spears and swords have tasted blood for the first time in this war.
Luck is on our side again (for real this time) as the second battle, against those despicable Pskovians this time, is also won. Hooray
Meanwhile we beat Columbus to the punch about 300 years early. Suck it Columbus.
With careful maneouvering through the Swedish mountains and valleys, the next three battles are also won. This brings our warscore to 45. This is good news. However all this warring is draining the coffers, so before I hit a too low budget I'd like to get out of this war. I think a white peace is the best course of action.
Because the game views me as agressor, which is due to the fact that technically I declared war by refusing to give up my title, I lose 100 prestige by white peacing. No matter.
My liege is a scumbag. I will have to keep a closer eye on him...
To maybe prevent any future agressive acts by my 'ever-so-kind' liege, I ally myself with the duke of Östergötland. It's not much of an alliance but it's something.
Oh no, it would appear that a gate to hell has opened in my lands. Woe is me!
To deal with these unholy events it would be wise to make myself acquinted with some men of God, so I join the Benedictine Order.
I joined the Benedictine Order and all I got was this lousy haircut. Perhaps this haircut has granted my divine powers. I shall have to put these potential powers to the test by peeking into the abyss below.
Just as I expected, this is the actual gate to hell (thank God for giving me protection through this divine haircut). Gates to Hell are bad for bussiness, so I demand for it to be closed.
Meanwhile my 'delightful' liege offers me the position of advisor. What could he be up to? Reluctantly I accept. What choice do I have? For all I know he could unleash his relentless wroth on me again.
Due to my newly acquired Benedictine blessings, I am confident that Exorcism is the best way to go to close the gap.
Of course it worked. I only wish that I could have thrown my 'wonderful' liege in the gap before it was closed.
This was the first part of my turn. I hope it was enjoyable so far.
