Werewolf CLXII: 24/2 Angry Men
They found the girl sobbing beside her mother, the knife still stood out of her back and the blood had hardly dried. She was still very young, one couldn't tell if she was over 18 or not.
The call to the police came from a hidden number, it was a voice claiming there was a strange noise on Grosvenor avenue 2nd floor, by the time they could inquire more the line was broken. After a bit of consideration they decided to investigate, regardless of if it was actually a prank call or not. It took approximately 30 minutes to get to the site as they decided to leave their sirens off, no need to alarm the whole naighborhood for a prank call.
On arriving at the scene, the house looked empty, there were no lights nor any movement inside and despite the knocks noone openned the door. Officer Tenpenny decided to check the backdoor, during his years at the force he unintentionally developed an instinct and could tell if there was trouble. As he anticipated the backdoor was indeed open and he could see bloodstaines on the floor.
Officer Tenpenny immediately called for reenforcements and the rest is just a recollection of memories. They pushed into the kitchen and went from room to room until the reached the bedroom and there she was. Gizelle, that was her name. She was sitting there beside her mother who lay in a pool of blood. At first noone thought of her as the person that committed the crime, however even after the shock she could still not give a clear explanations.
The facts were also against her. There was no sign of any intruders in the building, there were no signs of struggle, the knife had only Gizelle's fingerprints on it. It didn't take long and she was convicted for murder on a life long sentence
Four years had passed and the case was reignited. A completely similar case was found in the same neighborhood and a man was caught. On first interrogation he did confess on both killings but latter retracted his confession, claiming it was done under police pressure. However it was enough to reopen the case on Gizelle, and this time the lawyer did a good job.
He proved that the stabbing was done from an angle that couldn't have been Gizelle's as it was much higher up and done by left hand, while Gizelle was right handed. The fact that she was away the night before was also not counted and she was too scared back then to admit she did drugs, hence her memory loss. It was a good speach and it was plain for all to see that she was in fact innocent.
However it was up to the Jurors to decide on her fate. Not everyone amongst the jurors was a good person, many felt that she deserved to die for what she did. They were sexists who felt that such a murder could only be done by a woman. It was up to the Jury to decide, to vote and everyone had to be in alignment. The voting was anonymous.
They had to find the sexists and expell them from the Jury or the whole justice system could come crumbling down… It is up to them. It is up to YOU!
