Hi all,
I played this mod a lot recently (hardest USSR invasion difficulty) and I wanted to exchange some experiences.
I see that playing this mod historically makes it practically unwinnable in my experience. The main problem is that:
1. I simply run out of oil by the time I reach Stalingrad (Jan 1942 with Moscow taken at that point)
2. low manpower (I did take the MP minister for Germany), forcing me to disband outdated divisions
3. I constantly have to trade with allies for rare materials against supplies.
Potential criticism on my strategy:
1. I normally try to establish at-least some naval supremacy (this means that I don't have to worry about naval invasions ever and can leave the Mediterranean sea area unprotected, since I control Gibraltar and Suez) with carriers, which draws resources from the Airforce and the land army [Counterargument: Even if I had much more planes and mech I would still run into fuel shortages, even sooner at that].
2. Because of the slow org regain in the USSR I constantly need to drive my tanks back to Germany where the org. regain is 13 or so, which costs me a lot of fuel. I have no better way to do that.
3. Because of the focus on the navy my Airforce is weaker than the one of the USSR or the Allies, which is a problem as the Soviet airforce especially is constantly bombing me (which becomes especially painful as one approaches the Volga) [Counterargument: Even if I had more Airforces and more fuel getting airports of a good level still takes time].
4. An alternative I never tested is not to ally Spain and not losing all those resources, yet owning Giblatar and getting their whole army is simply too good of a deal to pass by.
Yet playing this mod unhistorically, everything becomes very easy. These are the steps I take:
1. I switch the German navy to base strike and build carriers so in 1940 I have 4 IV carriers
2. I start the war historically and I occupy most of Europe and Africa (by attacking Turkey) by Spring 1940
3. Once the winter recedes in 1940 I land one paratrooper division in Cardiff which is undefended and then start shipping in troops escorted by my carriers
4. USA declares war upon me so via Africa I invade Venezuela and then work my way up to USA which is a bit of a pushover at that point
5. While USA is being taken some of my troops take over the rest of the allied colonies (you need to imagine I operate 2-3 fleets, having 5 carriers by 1940)
6. I begin the invasion of USSR with about 450 divisions in June 1942. The invasion takes place all the way from Finland to Manchuria. I have no resource shortages at that point as I have over 100k oil and rare materials.
7. Final victory (bitter peace) fires in October 1943
Some of the questions I would have:
1. How do you not run out of oil given the heavy mechanization required to beat the USSR normally?
2. Is there a point in attacking Norway other than the nuclear technology you get out of it? The land you get is more a liability than anything else given the number of coastlines you have to take. In the meantime Sweden makes a way better puppet.
3. How do you deal with the low organisation recovery within the USSR? In my case I would be rotating my army from and to Koenigsberg where the recovery is +13 a day with 200% infrastructure. Which is the most efficient way I found up till now, given that building new infrastructure is very slow (I was testing this, thus modding the game where I give some random province in the USSR 200% infrastructure and the only province where I can reach a similar recovery is Sevastopol).
