nice update

i think 0.66 MP is 660 instead of 6600. as far as i know 1 MP is 1000 or 1500 men. in this case the actual daily gain is supposed to be 660 or 990. so your need would be 4300 or 6450 instead of 43000. i might be wrong but 6600 men in a day doesn`t make sense for me.

the Vladivostok trap is gonna be a real hunt area for you. it would be very good if there was a counter for POWs or the men we killed or lost.
Thanks :)

Your right I got confused with division size, or the perceived size anyway as its an abstract. Edited the post for the correct numbers.

No NEW puppet, actually: he already has Manchuria, Mengkukuo and Siam.

I know that. I was referring to creating new puppets. Anyways...

"Sink the ones we know about, there is nothing we can do about the ones we don't. Continue please Minster Kuniaki." replied the Emperor.

This was my favorite line from the last update. Very true words the Emperor spoke.

Yeah, good line.

Remble, I hate to say this, but I think 2 more squadrons of Naval Bombers need to be built.

If this timeline was true to life, the Japanese would no doubt have realised that more need to be built. Also, with the success they were having, the sinking of their most modern carrier would be a national scandal to the first degree.

Even now, it greatly decreases your striking power, as your remaining carriers are junk. Level IV is okay, but you are aslo relying on level II and I's. I know there is not much you can do on the matter, but build Nav's.

Good update, carry on.

They completed no research projects

I think Kuniaki meant to say "They completed no useful research projects", because they did research Modern Destroyers and Semi-Modern SPA. This was the situation in May:

So as the Soviets look to become a less potent military force, the USA once again uses its massive industrial power to get back on the scene with its carrier forces. Methinks that they will begin to make it hard for you for the rest of this year and the next...

Maj. von Mauser has a point. The Japanese public demands Naval Bombers to blast the round-eyed devils into submission!

Nathan Madien - The Emperor is required to provide pearls of wisdom :D

Maj. von Mauser, ColossusCrusher - Extra NAV's would be nice and the Japanese would expect vengeance. My no new NAV rule will remain in force though. My TAC's did a lot of the damage to the USN and RN when they were operating in the Pacific. The extra 16 of those that are planned can do the job, although not quite as effectively.

Zvetiki - Correct and thank you. I altered the update to add those two in :)

robou - That is one of the things that makes this scenario so challenging. All of Japan's major enemies can replace losses if given enough time. Japan cannot and has to be a lot more careful as a result.

A little meeting for the update as it was requested ...

A Meeting of Enemies

Schloss_Cecilienhof_Panorama1.jpg

0000 June 1st 1947.
Cecilienhof, Potsdam.

Cecilienhof had hosted an historic meeting in late 1944 after the rapid collapse of the Third Reich. That particular meeting had seen the conquests made by Germany during the Second World War largely reversed as most Nations were re-instated. All of the Countries that fell under Allied control saw their autonomy returned with almost no strings attached in most cases. Although most of the Countries that ended up Soviet controlled were also given their respective territory back there were usually several strings attached with a large number ending up as Soviet puppet states. These details as well as many others had been hammered out during the 'Postdam Conference'.

Only three Countries were present at the previous meeting and they would be the same three that met at midnight on June 1st 1947 under very different circumstances. Two of the leaders would be the same with one change. Joseph Stalin and Harry Truman would represent the Soviet Union and the United States as they had before. Winston Churchill was no longer the Prime Minister of Great Britain as his Party had been defeated by that of Clement Attlee during the 1945 General Election.

"I take it you want me to chair this meeting as I did the last time?" Truman asked Stalin and Attlee.

"You are still the only Head of State amongst us." Stalin replied as Attlee nodded his consent.

"Ok then. Naturally we are not here to divide up our conquests on this occasion and we are all suffering losses to our current enemy, Japan. We need to try and work out what went wrong and how to fix it so that we get to share the spoils once it is over." Truman began.

"I can tell you why your fortunes were changed in the Pacific if you like." Stalin said.

"We have had a few minor set backs but we can still win that particular War. The Japanese seem to have found a new Commander but we have the measure of the man now." Truman replied.

"Oh really?" Stalin added sarcastically as he pushed a folder towards each of the other men. "My Intelligence service is apparently a lot more useful than yours if you were not aware of the contents of those folders."

"We killed him years ago." Truman responded after several minutes of reading.

"No, you were led to believe that you did. You did kill him eventually, more by luck than judgement, but he trained his replacement very well. It shouldn't have mattered of course as you had overwhelming force superiority in the Pacific at the time. Congratulations on turning imminent victory into defeat by the way." a rather petulant Stalin said.

"I don't think that type of talk is going to get us anywhere do you?" Attlee said trying to calm Stalin down a little. "Why are you so upset anyway you don't seem to be doing too badly in Asia."

"I think you might want to appoint a new person to head MI6. The current owner of that post is an idiot if you think my forces are doing well." replied Stalin.

"Gentlemen calm down." Truman intervened.

"Before I allowed you two to con me into a War I didn't need the Soviet Union was slowly recovering from a War that cost me millions of lives. I am feeling like I have been here before. I had a valuable trading partner before I joined your War that was providing me with much needed supplies."

"You have the supply situation under control now though don't you?" Attlee asked.

"More or less yes." Stalin replied.

"Well that's good then."

"No actually it is not."

"Oh?"

"The Japanese have killed the three million men they were providing supplies for."

"Ah. Well at least they are suffering because you are no longer supplying their industry." Attlee added.

"No they are not. They are being supplied from elsewhere."

"I will try and deal with that. South America is in my sphere of influence. I shall add some diplomatic pressure to the Countries involved to see what can be done about halting these trades." Truman stated.

"Maybe if the United States Navy spent a little less time in San Francisco and San Diego and a bit more time at sea hunting convoys then there wouldn't be any need for diplomacy."

"My Navy is at sea and we have a fleet operating in the Persian Gulf. We are not idle you know." Truman responded.

"Not totally no but you have a lot more Carriers than you are using."

"I am not sending them to sea without proper escorts. We tried that and it did not go so well."

"I see. Maybe you could explain why the Royal Navy is protecting its territorial waters instead of hunting down the enemy then?" Stalin asked Attlee.

"It is a logistics issue apparently but it is being resolved as we speak." Attlee replied calmly.

"We are slowly wearing them down Joseph. They are running short of manpower to replace their losses, it is just a matter of time." Truman stated trying to mollify Stalin.

"I am running out of troops as well you know. Would either of you still have anything you could call an army if you had lost three hundred divisions?"

"We defeated a much greater threat than Japan by using the same sort of tactics, they work given enough time." replied Attlee.

"And mean while the Soviet Union is bled dry once again."

"We are all suffering losses. War is never easy."

"Why did you tell me it would be then? What of this 'secret weapon' of yours that would force Japan's surrender?"

"We are having some technical difficulties with it." Truman responded.

"Techincal difficulties? It works, I know it does. One of my agents was on the team that developed it."

"That is not the problem we are having. You are correct it does work. The difficulty we are having is trying to find a means to deliver it. We have nothing with the range needed to reach Japanese soil."

"Maybe you shouldn't have lost the Pacific then. Drop it somewhere in range where there are Japanese forces." Stalin said.

"And where would you suggest?" asked Truman.

"Hawaii is in range isn't it?" suggested Stalin.

"Those islands have United States citizens on them. Surely you do not expect me to nuke my own people?" Truman replied angrily.

"War is War. Sacrifices have to be made."

"Not that type of sacrifice. I will not blow up Hawaii just to make you happy."

"Bring your weapon to me then. I have airbases in range."

"None that you can keep control of for any length of time." Attlee said.

"Ok I concede that point. So you suggest we continue to try and force the Japanese to surrender by wearing them down very slowly?"

"Unless you have any better suggestions?" asked Truman.

"Not right now no, but please do something about those South American Countries before it is far too late. Without Oil and Energy we can defeat them a lot quicker."

"I will do all that I can." replied Truman as the meeting ended.

----------

"That went rather better than expected." Attlee confided to Truman as they headed towards their rooms.

"Yes it did. I do not know how long we can continue to convince him to shed his troops blood without us getting more directly involved though."

"The Japanese have already done enough to ensure that Europe will remain free of Communist rule. Does it really matter any longer?"

"Not really no but it saves our mens lives."

----------

"Did you believe a word of that?" Stalin asked Vyacheslav Molotov, the Soviet Foreign Minster.

"I think the British have a word that probably describes most of what they tried to say." he replied.

"And what might that be?"

"Poppycock."

"I knew there was a reason why I haven't had you shot yet." Stalin replied with a laugh. "We are on our own then."

"It would appear so, yes."

Just a few nits. Wasn't Potsdam in 1945?
Also, it's concede, not conceed.

Otherwise, a very funny update. :D

Stalin is quite the realist. The Americans and British are being quite underhand, methinks. Could this work to Japan's favour more than it is already doing so?

I found myself siding with Stalin's point of view.

How much time do you need, Attlee? The game ends in several years.

Excellent interlude. Who know Stalin had such a sardonic wit? :)
