It would be an exploit. You would be able to conquer any piece of the world and have the maximun production.

Of course. But granted I just want to play USA and expand to modern day borders but stop people from assimilating would that be a suitable solution?

Yeah, if you wanted to.

In fact- if you just add long range cultures, it'll be a much shorter list but nobody should assimilate.

Be warned, though- you will be absolutely overrun with non-Yankees. :)

Yea, I already started a US game and added the cultures in the continent (the natives) and the most common immigrants to the US. Worked good so far.

The California Gold Rush just happened to me and I'm getting thousands of craftsmen immigrating to California, but I don't have any capitalists there. Should I just leave them alone? I have 4 factories with openings, but the pops won't go to them. I don't have the option to convert to capitalists either, so what do I do?

You convert a craftsman to a clerk and then to a capitalist. :)

It doesn't have to be a craftsman. ;) And IIRC you're not allowed to promote capitalists if you have State Capitalism or Planned Economy.

True. I just figured he was already swimming in craftsmen and it would be tad cheaper...

I didn't know that.

In my defense, I usually wind up not playing a nation along those lines.

Surely you have at least one Yankee or Dixie POP you can promote. Well, it is California. Maybe not. :p

A Beowulf pointed out, you can take a farmer or laborer and upgrade it to craftsmen and then to clerk and then to capitalist if you have to. But, yeah, if you don't have any nationalist POPs in CA then you're screwed.

As far as POP migration goes, you try to setup conditions and hope they move where you want them. That's all any of us can do.

Also, make sure you have the game configured to automatically put your POPs to work in the factories, or manually add them to the individual factories.

Anybody remember just where that setting is that tells the game to automatically place POPs in a open factory? I'm at work and can't check. ;)

BTW, is California actually setup as a state? Or is it still a colony?

Got it fixed. Some came and now have 6 factories in Cali.

For POP splitting, is there anyway to add POPs together? I have about 3 38000+ POPs in New York, but can't split them since none are 40,000. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have it all over my country.

no way to merge POPs >10K, but give it a few years, POP growth will raise them above the 40K threshold.

Thanks for the answer, likk9922!

Quick question: If I added every culture to the accepted culture for the USA, would that end assimilation? (nevermind the other effects)

I tried that once but it ruined my country information-page because the culture-names was all over the screen, they didn't stoped in the box they're supposed to be in. Is there a way to hide which cultures are accepted? Or just made the game to only write the 3-4 who is first in the list?

cultures

Im playing as peru and i would like to gain inmigrants of my national culture, i think it is south andean, how do i do this? i have about 10 factories and 1 capitalist per state. Also my plurality is 32.2. Also is there a way make some cultures inmigrate and others leave? Its seems like when the entire province is of the same cultures every thing works better.

thaxs in advance.

All cultures of the americas are short range, so you'll not get any south andean culture pops from other nations (like say Chile) migrating in.

Depending on your political reforms, social reforms, plurality and national value compared with that of other nations you will have immigrants from Europe and Asia come to Peru, and they will eventually assimilate and become south andean. However, the process of assimilation is dependent on govt policies, plurality, religion of the immigrants, etc and can be either slower or faster as a result, but eventually immigrant POPs will in general assimilate into your national culture,

cool thxs, just one more question, could you recomend me what policies to adopt to attract inmigrants, like specific ones, beacuse im being as democratic as possible but not one inmigrant yet, its 1864.

The ruling party should have as policies:
Pluralism, and full-citizenship is best but limited-citizenship is alright. The party must be liberal or socialist.

Any social reform will help to attract them.

Higher plurality is always better.

What population should I get by the end of the game in Ricky if I play as south American country (Brazil) and manage immigration policies properly. I do get some immigrants and usually have 30 mil pop (8 mil at start) in 191x but is it good?

hi,

ok so playing as Peru with the VIP mod its 1888,
i have 48.9% plurality,
A democracy with a liberal party in charge: Laissezfaire, free trade, pluralism, lim.citizenship, and antimilitary.
Voting rights: wealth (because otherwise my ppl would chose a conservative party without pluralism)
press: censoreship
all parties allowed
non-socialist trade unions.

Social reforms (all my economy can handle): healthcare low, unemployment trinkets, 14h/day work hour.

Budget: Ive max out all spending, my taxes are 20.3, 20.3, 16.4 (in that order). my tarrifs almost in 0.

I also have at least on capitalis per state, 11 factories (only 2 at full capacity as i dont have more people of my own culture to promote to craftmen or clerks).

Prestige 119, Industrial power 118 & military 0.
60% literacy rate.

And I have 0% migration!!!!!!!!! why?? can someone plz explain I dont get it.

cheers

Because, my good friend nick, you are competing with the USA, a country that begins the game in 1836 with a plurality of 50% and literacy of 50%. Your numbers, while impressive relative to your 1836 beginnings, are simply inadequate to the task, assuming everything else is equal.

And, while the programmed preference towards immigrants going to the USA has been lessened in Revolutions, it is still there in a diluted form. You just can't get away from that fact, nor can you ignore it. It matters.

Also, don't be so afraid of a conservative party being in power. I often have one as Brazil and I still see a few immigrants come my way. I think they prefer seeing universal suffrage over having a liberal party in power, the truth be told. I see typical conservative pops come my way, such as laborers and soldiers with the occasional officer. :D
