"I, Daniel Palomino, am running for President on the Liberal ticket!"

~Senator & Admiral Daniel Palomino

I am thinking of voting Liberales, since they are the most ardent free market supporters and they don't seek unnecessary wars. With all these wars raging all over, and my own people fighting each other again back home, I hope Chile will remain enlightened and peaceful during these uncertain times. One thing is clear though, people will always need food, which means they will always need agriculture, and thus always be in need of fertilizer, so the Guano business should be safe.

I will run for the Liberale primaries. If the years under the Communist president has showed us anything, it is that the majority of government elected by the people is not in favor of the policies such a president would try to implement. We must thus shift our focus from government security, to the greater desire for personal freedom which we are all afforded.

Chile para los chilenos, let us show the Chilean people the true face of freedom which has been convoluted after so many years of civil war and dictatorships.

My policies:

Economy: Laissex Faire/ Interventionism, and Free Trade

The government has been unable to keep production of industry to meet the demands of the growing industrial population. We should relax restrictions on the ability for our people to create factories to better increase our productive mite. Laissez Faire would be the best option in my opinion. We have substantial cash reserves which we can use to pay unemployment if need be, but it would better add to our economy for privately ran growth.

Furthermore, we should embrace the ideas of Free Trade. No one will benefit if we begin to charge tariffs for in-coming goods. Our industries will not be protected, they will in fact be inhibited from more potential growth. Our people should enjoy the ability to purchase goods without restriction, and even subsidized if they need to purchase raw goods from outside our glorious nation.

Religion: Pluralism/ Secularism.

Our people must have the freedom to follow their beliefs, a freedom which has been embodied by Chile since her revolution from Spain. Let the government not intrude upon the people's religious thoughts.

Citizenship: Full Citizenship

Everyone who lands on Chilean soil is Chilean. We are unified not by religion, not by race, but by an ideal of freedom embodied in our nation. Chile para los chilenos.

Military: Anti Military/ Pro

My concerns are not of fighting any wars, but I can appreciate the crisis infusing the globe. Thus, I embrace keeping a standing army to protect our soil's if there is ever a power who wishes to assert itself over the glorious people of Chile.

Let us bring back freedom to the hearts and minds of the Chilenos. Chile para los chilenos.

"As Senor de Cordova has released his policies, I feel I should do the same.

'Greetings, Chileans! I come before you, a humble man, to present to you my policies. They are as follows:

In terms of foreign affairs and the military, I am Anti-Military. The military is most definitely important for Chile, as it is for all nations, but I am truly surprised that not many other politicians have realized that one of the primary reasons for these constant coups, rebellions, and civil wars is for such a pro-military stance. By placing a huge portion of our budget on expanding and maintaining an unnecessarily and ridiculously large military, we increase the likelihood of a coup - and a successful one, at that - exponentially. The military is still an important factor of our sovereignty, but we cannot go on a spree of creating weapons and artillery and using it as an excuse to retain our freedom and independence. The navy, however, will receive a priority to keep our shores safe, as we have no true enemies on the South American continent.

When it comes to the economy, I am pro-Laissez-Faire and Free Trade. Chile is renowned worldwide for our free market that has brought innumerable amounts of prosperity to her people and the other nations of the world. Chile's economy is a trading hub for some of the world's rarest materials, brought here by the businessmen, traders, pioneers, and farmers of this great nation. The government is not required to build and guide our factories - our people know what to do. And what is more, we need no tariffs to give us the edge over foreign competitors. Chile is a free nation of thought and equality - we shall not become a nation of greedy ultra-capitalistic nationalists.

With religion, I am a Secularist. Democracies the world over - and in no way excluding Chile - are famed for their freedom of speech, petitioning, the press, and, most importantly, the freedom of religion. Be you Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist, even Buddhist, Chile is home to all, and home to you.

In citizenship, I am pro-Full Citizenship. Chile is a democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people. The immigrants that flow into our nation daily fuel our economy, further diversify our nation with such a rich collection of cultures from the world over, and these people are the epitome of the great Chilean citizen. An immigrant of one year deserves as many rights as a man whose family has been Chilean for close to a century.

The government need not have a large part in the life of any Chilean. Despite the key right of a man of Chile and democracy to vote, the government they participate in must be limited to the fullest extent.

I shall see you all at the polls, people of Chile!'

Pablo Garcia (1839 - 1925)

Pablo Garcia died peacefully in his sleep in 1925, at the age of 86. He was one of the founding fathers of Socialist Trade-Unionism in Chile, a freedom fighter during the 1861-1863 civil war and a resistance leader during the fascist dictatorship, but also a minister of the republic for three times: Minister of Trade under Gogolow's government and minister of the Treasury under Bevan and Fuentes's governments.

New character: Alejandro Farìas
born: 1887
party/ideology: FNT/Radical Socialist
background: Alejandro joined with the FNT in 1906, during Saez dictatorship, and fought against the fascists in the 1911-1913 civil war, after the war he became a politician and in 1921 was elected as Mayor of Arica.

The FNT will no doubt have trouble winning back the populace, as we no longer have a proper set of candidates, Bevan has run so many times I can't imagine he would go again, my name has been dragged through the mud unjustly because of my pre-emptive and misguided attempt to preserve democracy. Who shall represent the Socialistas?

Santiago Financial, April edition
Chile's favourite business magazine

Rich, rebel and chic

The aristocracy's most infamous family, the Zepedas, strike again. The heir of a multimillionare international empire and the voice of millions of women is the topic of debate betwern conservative and liberal circles. Antonia Zepeda is the cover of this year's Life magazine as she tears apart the european scenario with her speeches and rallies about femal suffrage. Raised in a comfortable villa in the Andes in an influential family in politics and economics, she was first hand witness of her father's self imposed exile after his resignation from the presidency. Since birth, she was taught the traditional role of the woman in society and failed to understand its purpose. Ever rebellious, she is the living image of her father: an idealist spoiled brat turned revolutionary. And just like her granduncle fought the peruvians and conservatives and just like her father fought the absolutist Roseno I in the resistance, she has fought the injustice of male oppresion and lack of female authority in the streets and academic circles of Europe.

What made her go against the establishment remains unclear. Many men are puzzled as why this lady who controls one of the most powerful economic groups in South America -the Zepeda group- would want to risk it all in the streets for idealism. But this editor believes it is the Zepeda blood that makes every Zepeda unpredictable and antisystematic. From General Francisco Zepeda to Tarquino Zepeda, that family has been the center of important scandals and many political crisis. Though that has not severed their links with the other traditional aristocratic families like the Santa Rosas or the Andonies, and Antonia Zepeda has remained in touch with the rest of the high society, even after her long crusade in Europe.

Many rallies and protests have accomplished much for female suffrage, but it has done much more for Antonia herself. Now the symbol of feminism is returning home to Chile, the first nation to adopt female suffrage, not to run industry (as it is the responsability of the other, less visible Zepedas) but to revolution society and change Chile as we know it. Being a credible and internationally famous character, this radical lady will change the face of Chilean society or die trying, like any good Zepeda

Due to the failures to radicalize Chile under the banner of communism, I have decided to run for president on the communista ticket. I will bring radical purtiy back to the party, and lead the masses to their inevitable victory!

My policies are Protectionism/Planned Economy/atheism/Limited Citizenship/Jingoism

Protectionism because should we ever allow the masses to trade with capitalists, we will fall back into their oppression.

Planned Economy because all factories must be worker controlled, and the only way to do this is through the government seizing factories and giving them to the workers.

Atheism because it is not enough to simply ignore religion, it must be driven utterly from the masses minds, so instead of attacking those of different beliefs, the masses will instead turn their attention the defeat of world wide capitalism.

Limited citizenship because all who wish for true equality should be welcomed into Chile. However, opening our gates to immigrants from capitalist nations is the same as trading with them, thus, we must be careful.

Jingoism because everywhere the masses armies will go to defeat the capitalists! There will not be a single enemy left to the masses by the end of my term!

As a result of failing health, my temporary leave must be extended to a permanent hiatus. Chile will never again equal what it once was, but I pride myself that I lived and worked for the greater good. I ask that your prayers be with the Escovedo family in this, our hour of need. Thank you for a wonderful career.

Hernan de Escovedo

It is time for those who wish for the social welfare of all Chileans to speak up against those reactionaries who wish to hold back the people's choice in government. We must throw off the shackles of the past - not by idle chatter and popular slogans, but by practical and effective governance that puts the people first. I seek a path of reform. Peaceable reform, practical reform, reform whose benefits can be seen by all regardless of parties - but reform NOW where it is needed. We can no longer ignore the brave and hardworking Chilean people - no longer can we wait in silence and do nothing to bring about a brighter future. No longer can we talk to ourselves of our great ideals - in gilded chairs in an elaborate Senate house. Chilean government does not need more political issues or chatter - it needs more simple humanity in the face of the trials of the day. I will be running for president on the Communista ticket to further the cause of Chilean humanity.

We must work toward the best interests of the Chilean people, not toward mediocrity or useless political bickering. Chile must truly be for the Chileans - and for all of them.

Chile's industry has grown greatly and no longer needs any kind of shielding. All tariffs do now is subsidize owners of factories - while making it harder for the common man to purchase goods at a reasonable price! We must support Free Trade to let the productivity of the Chilean worker be paid its rightful dues in the markets of the world.

The investments of State Capitalism must be made to support a healthy industry that benefits not only the factory owners but also the common man.

Full Citizenship is our ideal. Men from around the world will flock to our example in these troubling times. We must build up Chile together, as we have in the past with our many different people groups.

We will uphold Secularism. To be involved in the individual religious choices of Chileans is at best a huge distraction for governance - at worst, an imposition of tyranny on the people.

We must be Anti-Military - skeptical of its overbearing power, but not hiding behind a naivity in world affairs. Our army and navy are powerful and a mark of our success. We must keep this strength to protect from all threats, but not waste our men and money on frivolous exercises. The people must come first. We will show the world how a people can protect itself and at the same time avoid the pointless death that has cursed so many nations lately. We renounce imperialism and violence, but not protection of our people.

I am running for President as an FNT member.

I am running on a platform of free market socialism and peace.

Interventionism/Free Trade/Pluralism/Anti-Military/Full Citizenship

I propose that we use our government surplus to eliminate or reduce as much as possible all tax on the lower class.

Senor Palomino, we have roughly the same policies...

I suppose it should be interesting then.

No offense to the General, but I do not beleive his economic or trade views coincide with the rest of the FNT Party.

I am promoting a fusion of communism and liberalism which is a progressive socialism fit for our 20th century modern age. The Partido communist offers many candidates calling for state control of the economy. The liberales and the right wing offer laissez faire and government for the wealthy. I propose a free economy with state intervention on behalf of the workers. I propose an extremely progressive tax system where the wealthy pay most of the tax and the poor almost none. The FNT needs to have a progressive platform for the future, offering the same thing as the communists will not help us get elected as we saw last election.

Juan Rivera

"I shall be running for re-election under the Comunista ticket. I know my chances are slim against the slightly more radical Comrades running."

~ Ernesto F. Fuentes, President of Chile

Slightly more radical? One openly expresses radicalism and desires to fulfill the revolution. This is why Chile needs to prevent the seizure of Chile by the government by electing those who support the individual Chilean. We should not let dogma sideline everyone's individual desire for success.

Someone might argue we should not let dogma sideline someone's collective desire for success, but if we are to group together collectively, let it be by choice and outside a party in government.

Chile is for the people, not the oppressive government.

"Agreed, Senor de Cordova. Now to my political opponents, as you can see I wasn't such a horrible blood thirsty communist after all. Also, I invite everyone to my 79th birthday party!"

~ Ernesto F. Fuentes, President of Chile
