I do not like to cropped images of a plane's buttock...

Wow! Nice work! The images of the planes are great. I was assuming since they were rectangular that you wouldn't be able to get the whole plane in... I guess I was wrong! I also really like the SOLA image. Perhaps this is an idea for others? Georg Stetter also looks good aswell. Will you be able to do the Saudi and Iraqi aswell?

The trick is, that one need to do some painting as well. In case of Stetter I have extended his should a bit, fairly easy to do and not noticable too much in a 96x96 image.
As for the planes the air or the air+concrete was extended a bit. The problem with the other two pictures that if all the plane is in the pic, then there is too much nothing around them.
The Yemen original was great as the bit diagonal picture could be fitted/cropped to required size.
So we either find some other picture or I need to crop/distort somehow.

For the Iraq, it looks like mostly white at the top and bottom. You can't just do it like the others, and add some more white? For the Saudi pics I will leave it up to you. I'd pick cropping over distortion myself.

Can you make one exactly like that for Steyr? I like how you faded to logo a little bit too. However, be careful, as you can see the edge of the SOLA logo, it must have had a slightly different shade of white or something.

Greetings,

Please note some some changes I have made in the Greek tech teams after some research:

1) Added a pic for 'Sxoli Ikaron'

2) Removed industrial_engineering specialisation from OSE (it was only a railroad company!)

3) Added 'submarine_tactics' srecial to Naval Academy. The four Greek submarines did quite a damage to italian shipping in WWII.

4) Added Bioxalko.
Founded in 1937 it is the greatest Greek steel industries. In first half of 2009 it has ~1,3 bn euros of consolidated turnover.
http://www.viohalco.gr/

5) Added Titan.
Founded in 1902 it is the greatest Greek cement company. In 2008 had 1,5bn euro of consolidated turnover.
http://www.titan.gr/

6) Added AEEXPL
The Incoperated Greek Company of Chemical Products and Fertilisers was from the turn of the century the company that ran most of the country's mines (most notably lignite and bauxite) and produced all kinds of chemicals. The company hit hard times in the 50' when the owner died, and bankrupted in 74.

7) Added Neorion Syrou
One of the oldest greek shipyards. Never really big, but still survives. A techteam until the royal shipyards are available.

Slovene Territorial Defense or Teritorialna Obramba Republike Slovenije
teritorialnaobrambarepu.png
[/URL][/IMG]
Before the modern armed forces today this system of defence was established as a response to soviet aggression during the cold war. If Slovenia got an earlier independence this system would have been setup earlier maybe during the end of ww2?

The territorial defense just seems... odd for some reason. Was it some para-military organisation? Also, AFAIK, Slovenia already had some land doctrine teams.

I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but I want to bring up the Detroit Arsenal Tank plant one more time.

I feel that this team should be added if it hasn't already. I'm a bit confused because there is so much talking going on about it.

As for the Stanford, sounds like a good California team to me.:)

Actually Persian Air Force was substantially larger than in Afghanistan, Yemen etc. Also there was an aircraft company which assembled planes and perhaps even produced some trainers.

Yeah, I knew that. That's also why I gave it Fighter Tactics as they saw some Air Combat during the Anglo-Soviet Invasion in 1941. Do you suggest raising their skill a level?

Greetings,

Please note some some changes I have made in the Greek tech teams after some research:

1) Added a pic for 'Sxoli Ikaron'

AFAIK, the pic below had been agreed upon. However it hasn't been "made" yet. I'd like to see your pic though.

3) Added 'submarine_tactics' srecial to Naval Academy. The four Greek submarines did quite a damage to italian shipping in WWII.

Agreed!

4) Added Bioxalko.
Founded in 1937 it is the greatest Greek steel industries. In first half of 2009 it has ~1,3 bn euros of consolidated turnover.
http://www.viohalco.gr/

Sounds good.

5) Added Titan.
Founded in 1902 it is the greatest Greek cement company. In 2008 had 1,5bn euro of consolidated turnover.
http://www.titan.gr/

I'm confused, what good would a cement company do as a research team?

6) Added AEEXPL
The Incoperated Greek Company of Chemical Products and Fertilisers was from the turn of the century the company that ran most of the country's mines (most notably lignite and bauxite) and produced all kinds of chemicals. The company hit hard times in the 50' when the owner died, and bankrupted in 74.

Sounds good.

7) Added Neorion Syrou
One of the oldest greek shipyards. Never really big, but still survives. A techteam until the royal shipyards are available.
http://www.uqp.no/Syros/

Should be of a lower skill then.

The Greek TT situation overall seems confused to me. If someone can put up the official list and see what is up? There is like 3 people making suggestions.

Anyways, these are my opinions on the above suggestions. I wasn't asked for it, but you've got it anyways.:p

Regarding the Czech Naval question. Thanks to Cegroach, I propose this:

Czechoslovakia:

2i8hgyt.jpg

Name: Czechoslovakian Danube Flottilla
Skill: 2
Traits: Naval Training, Seamanship and Small Taskforce Tactics
Years Active: 1930-1970
Notes: I gave it the same stats as the Austrian because they had almost identical capabilities.

http://bighugelabs.com/onblack.php?id=3769077556
Picture in the link.

Name: Komárno Shipyards
Skill: 2
Traits: Naval Engineering, Naval Artillery, Electronics and Technical Efficiency
Years Active: 1930-1970
Notes: Same as the above team.

Thanks Cegroach for finding some good information, and some very nice pictures! Do you know how to say "shipyard" in Czech, because I would add that to the "Komárno" name?

At least in Slovak it will be called Slovenských lodeníc Komárno.

South Africa
It has Vickers-Armstrong Ltd. a british conglomerate and nothing to do with SAF. Also a skill 8 team is just wrong. Considering that SAF will get plenty blueprints from Brittain its research will be quick enough.

Marmon-Herrington This is from Wikipedia. It is clear that they did not produce the car itself. However the design and development was done locally. But then the relevant TT would be South African Steel company or the government itself.
Also a good Reconnaissance Car does not warrant a skill 7 TT.
In 1938 the South African government initiated development of an armoured car. The resulting vehicle was based on a Ford 3-ton truck. As the country did not have an automotive industry to speak of, many components of the vehicle had to be imported. Chassis components were bought from Ford Canada and fitted with a four-wheel drive train produced by the American company Marmon-Herrington (hence the designation), UK-made armament (with the exception of the U.S.-made Browning machine gun) and armour plates produced by the South African Iron & Steel Industrial Corporation. Final assembly was done by the local branch of the Dorman Long company among others

de Havilland is also british company with subsidiaries in Canada and Australia.

It seems that SAF just got a bunch of british teams as is. This is wrong. These should be removed and some more research done on the country.

No idea. Leave it as it is now - someone for sure will correct it later.

One ability less would make more sense. many nations with more advanced shipbuilding industry do not have any access to a team with so many specialities.
'President Masaryk' was their largest vessesl which is roughly similar in size to small minesweepers/patrol vessels built by many countries.
Yeah, I knew that. That's also why I gave it Fighter Tactics as they saw some Air Combat during the Anglo-Soviet Invasion in 1941. Do you suggest raising their skill a level?

Yes, it seems more ambitious than Iraqi air forces.

P.S. In some time (starting uploading images right now) I will present revised POL techteam setup, though for 'continuation Poland' only.

I must start with an explanation.

Previous list, which is already implemented in the AoD was restricted to most important issues so it was relatively short. Observing that much smaller countries received proper treatment and got several new techteams made me reconsider some ideas.
Finally since research in AoD differs a little from the 'vanilla' some teams had to be revised.

The main idea with the list was to represent all important industrial centers, companies and at least some of more important doctriners of the Polish Armed Forces of that period. In some cases a single team represents several people or companies which were working together or were rivals as long as results of such a rivalry resulted in something - positive or negative.
Also this time a couple of techteams represent research centers which would appear in 1940-41, but only those which were important, which would FOR sure exist - no fantasy-based alternatives which will be proven below.

I am also attaching the files including 96 x 96 24 bit images.

As you can see the list is larger, much larger, but I am quite certain it is reasonable and balanced.

First the revisited teams:

Industrial team COP

2700;COP;T2700;5;1938;1970

receives larger skill (5 from 4), but is pushed to 1938.

Reasons:

- the industralisation project wasn't advanced enough in 1937,
- skill 4 wasn't sufficient considering the fact that the research is more difficult in AoD (according to the developers),
- many accepted proposals for other countries made me reconsider keeping skill 4 for that team,
- Poland enjoyed very high development/recovery rate in those years and the team is the most important industrial tool which can be used to recreate the recovery,
- 1938 is the year where several important techs are set,
- several factories which were a part of the project started production in 1938 (e.g. HCP's Artillery Factory in Rzeszów),

Overall - the team becomes stronger.

Code:
2703;Panstwowa Wytwórnia Uzbrojenia;T2703;4;1930;1970;general_equipment;artillery;electronics;training;[B]chemistry[/B]

PWU receives chemistry.

Previously I thought something new could be added to represent numerous ammunition factories which were a part of this large military concern.
This time it makes more sense to modify the team because it would be the primary tool to research new divisions of all kinds.

attaching alternative image for the team -

PWUalternative.jpg

Code:

Skill reduced to 2 (from 4).

alternative picture wit logo -
PWS.jpg

The PWS produced trainers, gliders and similar airplanes. The company was supposed to experience retooling and modernisation in early 1940s + several all-wooden, but modern airplanes were prepared for that period such as this:

pws46.jpg

PWS-46 light bomber.

NOTE - some small aircraft producers preoposed for other countries could be treated in a similar way - PWS produced over 1650 airplanes and I still think it only deserves skill 2.

Code:

PZL - the main all-metal aircraft designer and producer in Poland which experienced massive expansion in late 1930s - in 1939 a new factory in Mielec (PZL WP-2, currently PZL Mielec) was opened suported by a new aircraft electronics producer and expanded facilities in Warsaw ( PZL WP-1).

No doubts the company would become even larger and more important.

Stocznia Gdynia re-named. Naval Works of the Polish Navy was the official name of the company before late 1940s. Also the company was only able to built lager vessels after new naval docks were built in 1938.

The picture should be modified as well - using present-day logo -

In 1939 construction of two large destroyers (modified-Grom class so very modern) was supposed to be started. Materiel gathered for these vessels was used to built armoured train 'Smok Kaszubski' (Kashubian Dragon) in the second week of September 1939.

T_POL_Maczek.jpg

Replacing previous optional proposal (Dowództwo Broni Pancernych).
Maczk is considered the best POL commanders of the II WW and in fact it could be said he wasn't defeated a single time during the war - his brigade retreated in order in 1939 slowing down the offensive of the XXIInd Panzer Corps to a crawl and later his unit was ordered to cross the border after the Soviet Invasion, a day after he successfully started removing pockets of resistence of the 1st Mountain Division to the north of Lvov.

Many Maczek's subordinates were critical in developing of the polish armoured doctrine before the war and often commanded Polish tank and mechanised brigades during the war.

1938 is set as a startin year because around that time most of the decisions behind mechanization of the Polish Army were made (medium tanks were defined as the weapon of the future which closed down severl other projects - swimming tanks 3TP, new armoured cars etc.)

The team will come useful if any mechanized paths are chosen.

Code:
2720;Stanislaw Sosabowski;T_POL_Sosabowski;4;1941;1970;general_equipment;small_unit_tactics;training;

T_POL_Sosabowski.jpg

Sosabowski represents polish paratrooper school and doctrine development of the armoured arms.
It is little known fact, but before the war Poland was quite advanced when it comes to paratrooper doctrine and equipment designed to support that forces. Although not comparable with the USSR or Germany it would form a battalion in February 1940 with a regiment to the end of the year and possibly a brigade in 1941.
The widely unsuccessful Luftwaffe airstrike against Polish Air Force on September 1 achived at least one, less known victory - it destroyed transport planes which were prepared to drop paratroopr special force units in Eastern Prussia.

The abilities and the name of the team is a difficult choice. It is more like a flavour team which can be used to research paratrooper divisions or used as a secondary/tertiary doctrine team.

Sosbowski himself was instrumental in the development and training of the Paratroop Brigade in Britain (after work done in WOS in Bydgoszcz in 1938-39 and by Górski and Kalenkiewicz in 1940-41), he was also a very good infantry commander in 1939.

T_POL_Rydz_Smigly.jpg

Rydz-Smigly was the commander of the Polish Army after Józef Pisudski died in 1935. He was chosen mainly because shown no interest in politics and as one of most trusted subordinates of the Old Man.
Unfortunatelly be bacame interested in the politics after 1935... but remained active as the commander of the armed forces. He was responsible for the rearamment and modernization plan from 1930s which was possible after certain preparations were made by Pilsudski in earlier years.
The plan would result in a modernised army in 1941-42 (about a year after new factories of the COP were at full production speed). Unfortunatelly the war came yarlier and Smigly-Rydz made too many questionable decisions to deserve higher skill.

For the game he would serve as a secondary doctrine team/logistics team.

2724;Kazimierz Sosnkowski;T_POL_Sosnkowski;4;1941;1970;management;large_unit_tactics;infantry_focus;centralized_execution;

T_POL_Sosnkowski.jpg

Sosnkowski replaces Rydz in 1941 when the previous commander would either be elected as a president or his influence would become weaker.

Sosnkowski was another of the most trusted men from the Legions. he was considered most capable of the closest friends of Pilsudski, but his involvement in politics was too large to be ignored - at least Pilsudski seen that this way.
He is considered more capable than Smigly-Rydz and proved more than a decent commander in 1939. The most probable replacement of Smigly-Rydz I could think of.

Player should be able to chose what is his idea of the air forces for POL.

T_POL_Unrug.jpg

A German of Polish descent who became the commander of the Polish Navy.

He certainly was less ambitious than Swirski and ironically less skilled in developing submarine doctrine (Swirski supported the submarine arms as the best weapon against Soviet Navy, especially its battleships which led to the purchase of so called Gangut-killers such as ORP Orzel with 12 torpedo tubes!), ironically because he commanded an U-boot during the 1st WW and the British considered his presence in the Polish Army as an unfriendly gesture.
His presence is essential becaue someone should be available to replace Swirski.

True Stocznia Gdynia was a merchant shipyard which started more ambitious projects in 1939.
It comes without naval artillery because is not a military shipyard.

I'd like to add that there were river vessels built somewhere else, as well as two minesweepers built in river shipyard in Modlin, but two naval workshops seem enough to me.

It was the largest private-owned aircraft producer and designer in Poland. Produced mostly civilian airplanes, but in later 1930s reached levels of development which allowed them to compete for military deals (such as RWD-22 torpedo bomber or RWD-25 light fighter).

Their airplanes were of mixed construction - not all-metal, but relatively modern and resilent. Over 800 airplanes were produced by the company.

Fablok or Pierwsza Fabryka Lokomotyw w Polsce (First Locomotive Factory in Poland) in Chrzanów, Upper Silesia was the main locomotive producer in Poland finishing over 1300 locomotives to 1939.
It was also one of major exporters selling their products to Bulgaria, Latvia, Morocco and the USSR, but only after domestic demand was more or less covered (railroad transport was devastated during the 1st WW).
In 1938 it started working on launching license-based car production. From 1940 it was supposed to produce tanks, I am not sure what type.

Second largest, but much older locomotive and wagon producer in Poland. Best known industrial show-piece of Greater Poland (Poznan).
Established by Hipolit Cegielski in the XIXth century it flourished after 1918 building various equipment and machines - including tractors and armoured trains. In 1938 they established a cannon factory in rzeszów as a part of the COP producing large number of AA and AT cannons some exported to Britain and Romania.

PZT or PZTiR was the largest electronics producer in Poland largerly responsible for the rapid development of radio communication and especially radio entertainment. Elektrit was the largest factory in pre-war Wilno. It was also the largest or ctually the only exporter of electronics in Poland selling their high quality radios to many countries around the world.
It was especially important in developemnt of radio in Eastern Poland where at least 20 % of the population was still illiterate (before 1918 it was more than 50 %).
It was also the most advanced electronics producer in Poland, though didn't receive too many military orders (partially because of the presence of initialy strong communist trade unions which organised a strike in 1935).

In the end I must add that Poland had relatively large River Florilla (Pinsk Fleet) which was extremey important in case of the war against the Soviets (Prypet 'Sea' was virtually inaccessible in spring, mild winter and autumn), but during hot summer of 1939 it had to be disbanded and their crews fought on foot during the victorious battles against Soviets and Germans (ironically the last battle of the campaign was a Polish tactical victory).

I think that the list should cover several options and possible requirements. Some are less useful than the others, but are here ust in case so I will not need to return and make further changes. :D

Only playing the AoD with them shold result in adjustments.

It seems that SAF just got a bunch of british teams as is. This is wrong. These should be removed and some more research done on the country.

I agree. I suggest moving Marmon down to a skill 5.

Your Pic would be better as my pic, a badge would be subject in changes:
sxoliikaron.png

However, the picture will have to be redone, as it is distorted and is not in the proper format.

One ability less would make more sense. many nations with more advanced shipbuilding industry do not have any access to a team with so many specialities.
'President Masaryk' was their largest vessesl which is roughly similar in size to small minesweepers/patrol vessels built by many countries.

The problem I have is that if we make the team too weak, people will just use something else (like Skoda) to develop the vessels. Thus it is neccessary for the team to be a bit overpowered in relation to others...

Yes, it seems more ambitious than Iraqi air forces.

Agree, a Skill 2 it is then.:)

Not necessarily. CZE will have more than one naval tech to research if it finally manages to gain access to the sea. Besides the techteam will learn and its matching skills will make it more attractive as it gains skill.

So you think we should move the skills of the two teams down to One?

Norwegian tehcteams

I've gone over the norwegian techteams and made several changes:
* Akers Mekaniske : Increased skill from 4 to 5, removed mechanics and added industrial_engineering
* Bergen Mekaniske Verksted : new (skill 4, naval_engineering and technical_efficiency)
* Borregaard : new (skill 3, chemistry and mechanics)
* Det Kongelige Frederiks Universitet : new (skill 4, chemistry, mathematics, nuclear_physics). Ends in 1946
* Kongsberg : Added artillery and electronics. Removed industrial_engineering and management
* Kvaerner : Reduced skill from 6 to 5, removed naval_engineering and chemistry. Added industrial_engineering and management
* Norges Tekniske Høgskole : deleted
* Norsk Hydro : Increased skill from 4 to 5
* Odd Hassel : deleted (skill 5, chemistry, management, electronics)
* Airforce : Removed bomber_tactics, added fighter_tactics
* Tandberg : Renamed, changed start year to 1933
* UiO : new (skill 5, chemistry, electronics, mathematics), starts in 1946

Reasons:
Kvaerner buildt it first ship in 1965 after the aquisiton of Moss Værft & Dokk in 1962, so it it looses naval_engineering. They were newer a chemical company, so they loose chemistry. Historically they should be a perfect match for machine tools so they gain industrial_engineering and management.
Source (in norwegian) : http://www.snl.no/Kværner_ASA
This leaves Norway drastically reduced in naval research. To compensate, the skill level of Aker is increased (and they gain industrial_engineering so that they can do the assembly line production for ships), and Bergens Mekaniske is added as a new tech team (I was not sure which shipyard to include. Other candidates are "Rosenberg Mekaniske" and " Trondhjems Mekaniske Værksted". Note that both Bergen and Trodhjems was bought by Aker in the 1960's)

Kongsberg produced anti-aircraft guns, so the gain artillery. Removed industrial_engineering and management since Kvaerner fills this role for Norway.
Source (also in norwegian) : http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kongsberg_Våpenfabrikk

Odd Hassel was an academic at the university of Oslo (and Nobel laurate), while Norsk Hydro was a chemical compay producing fertilizers.
Borregaard is a pulp and paper company. Added so that Norway still has two mechanics tech teams. Another candidate might be the smelter Elkem.
The norwegian airforce uses fighters, not bombers.
I've renamed Tanberg to the name of his company (founded in 1933)
Altough NTH is the university that fits best with a technological inovations, the tech team Norway needs is one for mathematics and nuclear physics. Thus NTH is out, while Kgl. Frederiks Universitet is in. It changed name in 1939 to "Universitetet i Oslo", but I propose to do the name change in 1946 (e.g. when Atomenergi takes over the nuclear research). Since the first norwegian computer was build at the university of Oslo, they gain electronics.

I'm not good at locating images in the public domain, but hopefully someone can find images for "Tandbergs Radiofabrikk", "Universitetet i Oslo" (twice), "Bergen Mekaniske Verksted" (or one of the other shipyards), and "Borregaard".

Not really. One area of reseach less and it is done.

I'd like to hear what others think aswell, because I really think it deserves what it has ATM.

I'd like to see some more teams for Norway. And what happened to their Air and Naval doctrine teams? Now they have those stupid ministries...

I don't think 30+ teams for POL is too much, but I don't think all the ones suggested ATM deserve to be in.
