Well, I think he can represent the "Military" fraction in the new government. And mistakes happen with everyone, Stormbringer, do not feel embarassed. :D

Keeping a close eye on this AAR and especially at Russian-Chinese relations.

I'm sorry, but I don't know Russian politics very good and I don't know exactly political views of those people in real world. Socialist ministers for Russia are included in MDS 1.6 and they were set by default when Russia turned Red. They are set as LEN in Russian minister files. Sorry for bad correctness.

Austrian Afrika Korps was one of many expeditionary units that were sent by members of Mitteleuropa to aid Ottoman Empire in war against Persian alliance. Situation in Middle East was always critical, but nobody was expecting open conflict like this. It seemed that Persian Shah thought his little alliance was strong enough to confront entire Mitteleuropa. Military junta that was ruling empire since death of last Ottoman Sultan was underestimating strength of it's enemies. Nations of Persian alliance wanted to destroy Ottoman Empire while forcing Germany into peace talks by blocking Suez Canal. Their plans were working just fine in the beginning. Suprised Turkish armies were retreating from Iraq, Jordan and Palestine while Egyptians advanced even into Libya and Mittelafrika. Ottoman Empire couldn't hand this situation alone and armies from many nations of Mitteleuropa started to pour into Middle East and North Africa. While most of expeditionary forces landed in Anatolia to confront the Persians, Austrian navy transported six Austrian brigades to Libya. Combined asault of Austrian Afrika Korps and Libyan troops pushed Egyptians to the east. When Egyptian defense line in Tanta was broken, Austrians and Libyans reached outskirts of Cairo. Only the capital of Egypt was still standing in the way to Suez Canal.

Wow the Austrian 'Afrika Korp' is impressive.
The Arab forces are utterly outdated it seems!

I have been reading this from the start, and have been loving every update. I love your concept of mixing MDS with KR, makes for some exciting possibilities.

I must say, I am surprised that Shangqing conquered all of China. Also, it is interesting that Mittelafrika made it through the 20th century. I guess without a 2nd world war, decolonization never got off the ground. It wouldn't be surprising to see LOTS of terrorist and guerrilla activity against German rule in Mittelafrika. Also, its nice to see that the USA won the civil war.:D

One little nitpick: When you showed the borders of Mittelafrika, they owned both Botswana and Zimbabwe (which I guess in TTL would still be Rhodesia). Didn't South Africa still own them? Or did Mittelafrika seize them at some point over the years?

Yeah, maybe some things look odd, but they can be explained. I have already mentioned history of some nations in past updates.

I think it is best option that Shangqing China won against other Chinese factions. This fact offers better story. Imagine pro-German Qing Empire or German corporation conquering all of China. I think it is realistic that Chinese chosed theocratic state as this kind of society offered them best options. Shanqing was fighting for free China, they presented new ideas and strong China. Corrupted cliques and Qing Empire didn't enjoy support of the people. Shanqing armies that were fighting for their strong ideas were armed with outdated weapons, but they had strong fighting spirit, bravery and loyalty. Other people of China were not willing to fight and die for corrupted warlords and German imperialists.

Mittelafrika was not so fragile as it seem. I already mentioned that Germans offered many rights to native African people. They were not classical colony which would serve only as base of resources. Germans were investing in African economy and they tried to achieve good relations between African and European population. They also propagated African unity, like African people are one nation etc. People of Mittelafrika were enjoying more rights than population of French North and West Afrika, where French elites dominated society. Mittelafrika is facing new threats after rise of Syndicalism in Ethiopia. Ethiopians are propagating creation of great African nation where everyone are living in equality. Their ideas are combination of socialism and rastafarian movement. Combination like this attracted many people of Mittelafrica, especially African labour class. As for African wealthy middle class, they support German Mittelafrika which is free trade zone that offers many chances for business. As you see, Africa is not so particioned because of special historical situation. Instead of national conflicts, there is more like conflict between pan-African European capitalism and pan-African socialism, mixed with African tradition. Mittelafrika was also a bit of bully, this is why it expanded into Portugese colonies and into South Africa. In war with Portugal(which is included in classical KR scenario), Portugese lost their colonies. I have also added story where Spain joins Mitteleuropa and conquers metropolian Portugal. There was also war with South Africa(also included in KR scenario). Entente couldn't protect South Africa, but maybe it will help their old friends later. South Africa is now member of Entente alliance. It is African fortress of Liberal Democracy(Germans are propagating Conservative Aristocratic Democracy). If there will be war between Entente and Mitteleuropa, South Africa will try to liberate other parts of Africa.

As for United States, in update about Entente Conference in Canada, Canadian PM was talking about Canadian intervention in US civil war. Canada declared war on Reed's CSA and Californian PSA. This allowed MacArthur to defeat Southerns without fighting on two fronts, while swift Canadian intervention prevented Mexican invasion of California. With Canada defeating PSA and CSA, Mexicans decided not to intervene in American war. In long era of peace, USA became very strong. Altough Canada is still formal leader of Entente, USA has became strongest nation in alliance and de facto leader of it.

I hope I have explained some things to you, many people were asking about them and this is short explanation. As you see, world is partitioned between many alliances, forces of liberal democracy(free market and liberal political values), aristocratic democracy(conservative political values and free market with some limitations) and peoples democracy(state controled economy- Socialists and very limited free market- Social Radical). There are also small alliances like Belgrade pact(Serbia-Romania-Greece) and Treaty of Tehran(Persia-Oman-Egypt-Turkestan). There is still misterious Chinese alliance(Shanqing-Alash Orda-Indonesia). I thing I have answered on most of questions that were asked by readers. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Mesopotamia, 2 April 2009

After nine months of bloody battles, war in Middle East was still raging. Nobody expected that Persians would be prepared for war so well. Altough Persians were still fighting with full force, their Arab allies couldn't repel attacks of enemy forces. When Oman surrendered to Mitteleuropa, German ships finally sailed into Persian Gulf. After Austrian and Libyan troops entered Cairo, Egyptian morale crashed. Mitteleuropean troops were advancing from the east and desperate Egyptian army fortified around Suez Canal. After Argentinian troops captured Khartoum and Mitteleuropean armies met in Suez, Egypt surrendered to Mitteleuropa.

After short rest in Alexandria, Afrika Korps was replaced to Mesopotamia. Soldiers of Afrika Korps had now encountered much tougher enemy. Austrian expeditionary force had suffered heavy losses in two long battles with Persian elite armoured corps, known also as ''Immortals''. German Luftwaffe had launched massive bombardment campaign that forced Persian elite units to retreat from their positions in Mesopotamia. Afrika Korps had now more luck in battles with forces of Persian regular army. United offensive of Mitteleuropean armies pushed remaining Persian troops from Mesopotamia. When Persians received more reinforcements from Turkestan, strong defense line was established and advance of Mitteleuropean forces was halted. Both sides were now resting and preparing for incoming battles.

Good. Spain has joined the war in the right side. Impressive.

Who's governing Spain right now?

Btw, why is Austria using the old flag?
Since they are supposed to be Austria-Hungary, not just Austria?

There is no more dual monarchy. Austria is now some kind of federal monarchy and all nations are equal, altough they are represented as autonomous kingdoms, grand duchies and duchies instead of federal republics. This is why I'm using old imperial flag.

Nice update. Libya is a monster now!

It is a monster, but it is our monster! :D

Spain, our glorious Iberian ally!

How did Spain own Portugal?

Excerpt from the diary of Austrian oficer, 14 January 2010

Finally, peace at last! At least for us, I think. I hope our Kaiser can keep us out of this mess with China. We have finished with our war, but new one has just started some miles away. Here in Dushanbe we can hear Indian artillery firing on Chinese positions. Some people say that Chinese are already in Afghanistan. Those crazy generals in Beijing had just attacked Delhi without warning. I have never understood what is happening in China. This land is such a mistery. And now half of the world is in war. Chinese alliance against Entente. I dont even know what to think about that. American president said that China will be defeated in very short time. Maybe this is true, but I don't think that Chinese were so naive to invade member of Entente without good plan. If they defeat Delhi, Entente will lost important base of resources.

I won't think about this stuff any more. I had enough of my war. I still can't believe how did we manage to break trough Persian defense line. After that, entire Persian organisation collapsed. Our troops were racing to Tashkent. Persia surrendered soon after frontline collapsed and we headed towards Turkestan. I don't know what happened to Shah of Persia, he had probably fleed to Alash Orda. We slowly advanced trough Turkestan. Infrastructure is very poor and our troops couldn't move very fast trough rough terrain. Finally we captured their capital, but they still continued to fight. We celebrated New Year's Day somewhere near Bishkek. We arrived in Dushanbe few days later. In this city, enemy commanders finally signed capitulation. War was over.

Tomorrow we are returning home with thousands of other soldiers. So many nations participated in this war... I saw so many Spanish soldiers. How interesting... We were helping Ottomans in their war, but there were more Spanish troops than Turkish soldiers. Friend from Spanish command have told me that there were 25 Spanish divisions fighting in Middle East! And those were land forces only. Only God knows why had Spain sent so many soldiers to this war. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all. I have made many good friends during this operation. Maybe I will visit Spain in the spring. I realy need a break.
