Sweden has chosen to aid the Germans. That is unfortunate. We cannot allow them to cooperate to circumvent the blockade we are placing upon the Germans and Sweden cannot be allowed to work a shadow alliance with our enemies unscathed. We are going to expand the blockade to include Sweden. We will take steps to avoid damaging Norwegian fishing and hope they decide to break away and choose neutrality over their strangely bold cousins. We place no claims upon the lands of the Swedish or Norwegian people and pledge to work towards their borders staying the same as they currently stand. We would be fools to stand by and not consider Sweden at a minimum to be an unofficial shadow ally of the Germans however and the blockade will stand until they arrange peace with the Russians and those they are now at war with.

If such time comes to pass that Sweden takes action to grow an official alliance with the Germans or directly cooperates and coordinates with them, then we will be forced to expand into official war with them. If Norway takes the step to break away we will guarantee their independence against reconquest and guarantee their borders.

You cannot call me a hypocrite, Oscar of Sweden. My neutrality has been threatened. War is tearing Europe apart. The Central Powers seek to subjugate all of Europe under their bootheel, whether they are able to acquire such conquest through peace or through conquest. Instead of sweeping in and attack the Russians while they are fighting, why not seek for a peaceful resolution after the war has ended? You could purchase the lands from the Russians without any blood being shed. Instead you seek to send your own people to their deaths in order to reclaim what is "rightfully yours", when it is in fact not. I have repeatedly warned countries against threatening my Kingdom's neutrality, and it has gone unheeded by the German Empire. They Germans have severely hampered international trade with East Asia through the sea lanes, which, although not harming the Spanish government directly, has severely damaged the economy of the private trading business within Spanish ports. By bringing the naval war to the Mediterranean, the Central Powers threaten every country and every town that lies on its coast. The French, it seems, have finally come to aid their Russian allies, and as a result blood must be shed in the Bosporus and Suez. The Germans also refused to allow neutral shipping to reach the Russian Empire, and when they finally did, the ships had to be abandoned as all of the major Russian ports had been captured or destroyed - and then the Germans refused these neutral ships their coal and their harbor. You cannot call us a hypocrite for defending our neutrality, when you claim to be fighting for your people while joining the nation that started this bloody European war.

If these nations will not lay down their arms in peace out of stubbornness, something must be done. The Central Powers - the aggressors in this war - must be stopped.

And do not believe for a moment that I am a hypocrite. Spain must be defended against those that threaten the peace, stability, and prosperity of not only our nation, but Europe itself. That time has now come, and action must be taken to preserve what is left.

King of Spain

British~Japanese Naval Accords

Japan and the British Empire are coming together to push forward into a new era of cooperation.

* The British Empire and Japan sign a 10 year defense alliance.

* As part of a new naval construction program the United Kingdom will be constructing 3 dreadnoughts, 6 subs and 10 large ships. The breakdown is thus: The UK pays for and acquires the 3 dreadnoughts and 4 subs. The Japanese Empire pays for and acquires upon completion 2 subs and the 10 large ships.

* As part of a plan to further reform the British Navy towards more modern lines of deployment and fleet structure, we are selling 5 large ships to the Japanese Empire to help rebuild their battle fleet into fighting condition to better destroy our common enemies. The 5 large vessels will be sold at 25% of their construction cost due to wear and tear.

* Both nations take steps to lower tariffs to foster trade.

The Empire of Russia echoes the British words, if Norway wishes to end the union with Sweden, our war shall continue with Sweden alone, since they were the ones who declared on us. We have no resentment towards the Norwegians. Nor we wish to fight them.

The Great War: The Eastern Front January - June 1904

As the Nations of Europe went to war, the already few years old Russo-German war heated up with the entrance of the Danubian Federation, Kingdom of Romania, and Kingdom of Bulgaria. These nations quickly moved against the unprotected Russian underbelly, with the Romanian Army quickly forming under General Constantin Prezan. His idea was to use the Central Power's complete control of the Black Sea to their advantage. With the threat of Russian Militia, the Romanian Army marched through Russia until they reached Odessa, where a brief skirmish between make-shift Russian militia and the Romanians left the militia scattered and a few casualties to the Romanian Army. [-1,000 Conscripts from Romania.]

In the Ukraine, General Korshanenko, commanding only about 300,000 men who had little supplies, tried to hold out against the onslaught by Danubian and German forces, only to watch as thousands of men perished, at almost no cost to the Central Powers. He ordered a full-scale, general retreat from the Ukraine entirely, swinging Northwards, but at the same time ordering a "Scorched Earth" policy, destroying supply lines and infrastructure as they went, and blowing up factories and lighting fire to farms. The systematic destruction of the land proved to be hell on the invading forces, who tried to set up some framework of organization, to no avail. This, combined with Russian Partisan and Guerrilla fighters, turned the Ukraine into a nightmare for the Germans and the Danubians, where they took more casualties than the actual battle with General Korshanenko's Army. [-40,000 Conscripts from Russia. -25,000 Conscripts from the Danubian Federation. -10,000 Conscripts from Germany. -20 Industry from Russia. -100 Base Income from Russia. Romanian, Bulgarian, and Danubian Forces spread out in central Ukraine, taking almost complete control stretching from Kiev to Dnipropetrovsk down to Odessa. Control of the area was placed under the joint occupation of all the three forces, with the Bulgarians landing on the Crimea to secure control of the Peninsula, and moving North to the Dnieper River.

The major action of the early months of 1904 was the German against the armies of General Brusilov and General Nelidov, both of which had received fresh recruits armed with little more than swords and farm tools. They were placed as the reserve, against the oncoming German Armies. The call for retreat was heard from St. Petersburg, splitting up the two Russian Armies. General Nelidov took refuge in Minsk, hoping to use the city's defenses against the oncoming Germans. When the German Army was about 10 kilometres away from the city, their heavy artillery began to bombard the outskirts of the city, before some started to hit in the city itself. Thousands of Russian defenders cried out, knowing they could not hold out against the barbaric onslaught. Many were veterans and saw some of the great charges, but news of the retreat from the Ukraine greatly lowered their spirits, as many Russians simply lost the will to fight, and walked out of the town, only for some to be blown to pieces by a falling German artillery shell. [-10,000 Conscripts from Russia.]

In March, a small trickle of new supplies began to arrive in Minsk, giving at least everyone in the defense of Minsk a gun to shoot. This did little to help the situation, as on March 18th, 1904, the German Army, combined with small elements from the Danubian Army were able to quickly fall in and crush the outer rim of defenses. The inner sections of the city began to fold around noon, as the General Nelidov called for retreat, ordering as much damage to the area as possible, to ensure the Germans could find nothing of value. However, this failed as the Germans were quickly able to put out the fires and stop the explosions from going off. A surprising find for the Germans, was that a large section of their own men were Prisoners in Minsk. Quickly taking the opportunity to free them, thousands of Germans were re-armed, and sent back into the Army, with some opting to retire back to the Fatherland. As a result of this, the German Army forced their Russian prisoners far behind the frontlines, towards Germany proper. In the Baltic, the German Army had little trouble with elements of General Brusilov's Army as he moved towards the North. He tried to utilize fakes to slow down the German Army, but it was to no avail, they smashed through them with counter-charges. When supplies finally started to trickle in, he attempted to reverse the retreat and go for the offensive, but General Fruehauf saw that the Russians were still weak, and ordered a full-scale offensive on all fronts, pushing the full weight of the German Army against the lines of General Brusilov. His lines began to crack, and to try and avoid heavy casualties, he ordered a retreat to St. Petersburg.

With the Baltic under threat once again, Russia ordered the leaders of Latvia and Estonia sent to Gulags in Asia. However, news that they never reached there was heard, and instead their bodies were found floating down the Volga River. The destruction of the lives of citizens of their own nation reflected badly on the Russian Empire. [-20 Prestige from the Russian Empire.]

Along the German Frontlines, and as they advanced deeper into Russia, the Germans constructed a series of railways, to ensure good supply from the Fatherland. As it would be, Krupp Industries had just developed a new type of gun, one that could be mounted on the Railway. Under design since the start of the War, they finally came into existence around March of 1904. The Kaiser ordered Krupp to send one to the Russian front as fast as possible. Guns from a future ship were used, with a 45 caliber chamber, it was a truly feared weapon. This new invention, called the Schnelladekanone, was hailed as the German's key to victory in the War. [+1 Army Level to Germany.]

The Kaiser ordered the military to do what it could to bring this weapon to the frontlines. Extra money was spent on workers to be brought in to follow the German Army, laying track for this massive weapon. Although the costs were great, when the German Army was about 20 km from St. Petersburg, they finally stopped construction, and the massive gun was brought in from Berlin, where it was on show to show the might of the German Empire. With the Train making limited stops, the trip from Berlin to the outskirts of St. Petersburg was still a long one. Arriving in late May, and with Russia getting more supplies by the day, the Siege of St. Petersburg was quickly put underway. The opening shots from the Schnelladekanone impressed everyone in the area, dust from a huge radius around the gun shot into the sky as an ear-piercing shot whistled through the air. The defenders of St. Petersburg, digging trenches and helping to construct makeshift bunkers, were surprised when the massive shell slammed into the city walls, blowing a huge hole in the defenses, and causing nearly a thousand deaths, from soldiers holed up in the trenches. The city was put in high alert, thinking the Germans were close, but a quick sweep of the area showed that nothing was within a few km of the city. A little bit later, another shell rained down into the city, smashing into a small village outside of the city, annihilating it. A panic soon arose, with everyone looking towards the sky, wondering when the next German shell was on its way. [-1,000 Conscripts from Russia.]

A few days later, after firing around twenty shots on the city, St. Petersburg was becoming more and more defenseless, even as more supplies arrived from the North and through Persia. The Russians under General Brusilov were tired, low on moral, and almost unwilling to fight on. With supplies becoming less and less of an issue, the Russians now faced superior numbers, and had very low moral. From a huge push, to an equal push back, all in the span of a year, was a damaging blow to their minds, as they all sat, hunkered down in their trenches and bunkers.

The German Heavy Artillery barrage lasted another week, until elements of the German Army were told to advance, and their presence among the citizens, and their movement, quickly reached St. Petersburg. Tsar Nicholas II ordered his family, and a great majority of his staff, to retreat to Moscow, should anything happen to the capitol city, he did not want them, and his unborn child, to be harmed.

The Schnelladekanone firing upon St. Petersburg.

The first crippling blow to the Russian Empire was on the the sixth of June, when a shell from the Schnelladekanone flew into St. Petersburg and smashed into the Winter Palace, leveling almost half of the building instantly. Tsar Nicholas II, having been in his war room working on plans for the defense of St. Petersburg, was instantly killed as the shell exploded and collapsed the roof in on the building. Soldiers didn't even need to be told what had happened, everyone the Tsar was dead simply by looking at the Palace. It didn't resemble anything of its former self. Word reached Moscow, and a quick ceremony brought the youngest son of Tsar Alexander III, Grand Duke Micheal, to the position of Tsar Micheal II. [-1 Stability from Russia.]

With moral destroyed, and the new Tsar unable to coordinate a defense of St. Petersburg, officially moved the capitol to Moscow, and ordered the army to retreat from St. Petersburg, in an attempt to try and keep them somewhat intact. With the bulk of the Army gone, and just mere defenders left, the Battle of St. Petersburg didn't take much for the Germans to win. They swamped over the defenses, even though they put up a hell of a fight, giving Russia a rare moment of lower casualties than the opposing side. This was mostly because the defenses were left with Machine Guns, and a somewhat impressive fortification system. [-45,000 Conscripts from Russia. -70,000 Conscripts from Germany.]

Tsar Micheal II of the Russian Empire.

As June started to wind down, the Germans celebrated their great victory in the ruined Winter Palace. The Kaiser ordered a pay increase across the board for all soldiers of the German Army, to try and raise moral. He hailed Krupp as a hero, working to help destroy the city of St. Petersburg. He issued orders for all industry in the area, a good chunk of it too, to be given to the German Military to control, ensuring that they stayed supplied and that they paid the workers fair wages, to make sure they did not revolt against German control. [-25 Industry from Russia. +25 Industry to the German Empire (+25 Occupied Russia).]

The Russians, however, were starting to gain a better control over their military, as three armies began to form, with more supplies trickling in each day, a sense of devotion to the Empire, and the desire to crush the invaders, rose up amongst the soldiers. The three armies were the same as before, with General Brusilov controlling the 1st Army in Moscow, General Nelidov controlling the 2nd Army in Kharkov, and General Korshanenko commanding the 3rd Army in Rostov-on-Don. The Germans, however, held a far superior advantage, having the nations of Romania, Bulgaria, and the Danubian Federation on their side, they seemed ready to launched even further into Germany. Europe on July 1st, 1904.

Giving a speech in Berlin, Kaiser Wilhelm II talked about the War that had been forced upon Germany, and how through the true power of the German people, and the commitment of her allies, would make sure she won in the end. He praised the spirit of the German Soldiers, and did not remark about the death of Tsar Nicholas II, earning him a slight rebuking on the international front for not addressing such an important issue. [-10 Prestige from the German Empire.]

The French Republic is truly shocked by the death of Tsar Nicholas.

A great man, a visionary, who undertook reforms which did a lot for the Russian people. Called upon by his nation in need, he led Russia valiantly against the German hordes, and refused to abandon Saint Petersburg, to be there, with the defenders, unlike the German Kaiser, sitting safely in Berlin while millions of Germans are sent out at his command, to give their lives for him. He paid it with his live, but he will be immortalized by his deeds. Russia can truly be proud of such a son.

We hope that, by defeating Germany and bringing peace to the world, he will be proud of us, and it is the best we can do to honor his memory.

The German Kaiser, on the other hand, has been shown to be lacking any kind of humanity, by ordering the indiscriminate terror bombardment of a city with over a million inhabitants. This monstrosity shall not go unpunished, and Kaiser Wilhelm must be brought to answer for his crimes. His actions have plunged nearly the entire world into war, and his refusal to countenance defeat will cause great chagrin to the German nation. How many German mothers have lost their sons to the Kaiser? How much more blood must be spilled, to stop this mad man? We believe it is the patriotic duty of every German to rise up and take matters into their own hands, refusing to cooperate in this madness brought upon by Wilhelm, the mad Emperor, before it is too late to save their nation.

Français! We now march to war, to save our allies and the world from this blight. We march against tyranny! We march against obscurantism! We march for freedom! The Germans march for their Kaiser, while we march for true values! The German soldiers are trained and drilled to be machine men, with machine minds, but we are different! We march as free men, and as free men, we will prevail!
This army we have assembled is the biggest French Army the world has seen to this date. Conscription is a harsh duty, which would be best avoided, but it is a necessary duty, when France is threatened! It is a patriotic duty to fight for the defense of France, and fight we shall!

Be wary, we are facing a foe without humanity. They will shell French cities just as easily as they have shelled Russian cities, if we do not stand up to them, and expel them from our lands! We have at our side a mighty coalition spanning most of the world, a world united like it never was before, with the purpose of standing up to German domination of the world, and united we shall triumph, for we are stronger, and we fight for a just cause. Allons!

Allons enfants de la Patrie
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé
Entendez-vous dans nos campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras.
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes!

Aux armes citoyens
Formez vos bataillons
Marchons, marchons
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons

Que veut cette horde d'esclaves
De traîtres, de rois conjurés?
Pour qui ces ignobles entraves
Ces fers dès longtemps préparés?
Français, pour nous, ah! quel outrage
Quels transports il doit exciter?
C'est nous qu'on ose méditer
De rendre à l'antique esclavage!

Quoi ces cohortes étrangères!
Feraient la loi dans nos foyers!
Quoi! ces phalanges mercenaires
Terrasseraient nos fils guerriers!
Grand Dieu! par des mains enchaînées
Nos fronts sous le joug se ploieraient
De vils despotes deviendraient
Les maîtres des destinées.

Tremblez, tyrans et vous perfides
L'opprobre de tous les partis
Tremblez! vos projets parricides
Vont enfin recevoir leurs prix!
Tout est soldat pour vous combattre
S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros
La France en produit de nouveaux,
Contre vous tout prêts à se battre.

Français, en guerriers magnanimes
Portez ou retenez vos coups!
Épargnez ces tristes victimes
À regret s'armant contre nous
Mais ces despotes sanguinaires
Mais ces complices de Bouillé
Tous ces tigres qui, sans pitié
Déchirent le sein de leur mère!

Nous entrerons dans la carrière
Quand nos aînés n'y seront plus
Nous y trouverons leur poussière
Et la trace de leurs vertus
Bien moins jaloux de leur survivre
Que de partager leur cercueil
Nous aurons le sublime orgueil
De les venger ou de les suivre!

Amour sacré de la Patrie
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté, Liberté chérie
Combats avec tes défenseurs!
Sous nos drapeaux, que la victoire
Accoure à tes mâles accents
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire!

Today is a black death to Russia, our leader, the man who sought to change Russia, who improved living conditions of all Russian citizens, who fought valiantly against the foes of the Motherland, who always treated each soldier as a son, who at two times coordinated the defence of St. Petesburg never thinking of fleeing, my brother, Nicholas II, Czar of all Russias, now finally sleeps the eternal dream with our ancestors. Let this be a demonstration to the world, that we the Russians, nobles or not, shall always defend our land, be it on the plains, on the forest, rivers, towns or cities. We will never, never surrender. My brother Nicholas, died as a soldier, doing his duty, planning the defence of our past capital city. He perished as many have done, fighting the invader, showing that he was no different from a man in the trenches.

It has been a terrible turn in events, both to our government, economy and military, but yet, we manege to go on with the struggle. Is true that our enemies have multiplied, but we have now more friends than enemies! From the white cliffs, the United Kingdom has appeared, from the city of lights, France has appeared, from far away land, USA has appeared, in the South, Argentina, Brazil and Chile appeared, from the hot hills of Iberia, Spain has appeared, from the land of Koalas and Kangaroos, Australia has appeared, from the eternal city of Rome, Italy has appeared, from the icy tundra of North America, Canada has appeared, from exotic lands we never heard of, India has appeared and even our past enemy, from the far East Japan has appeared.

Think my people, we have been alone up to now, and we have supported the German onslaught by ourselves, now with nations from all around the world, Germany and it's allies will start backing off. We will push them and reclaim what is our.

From now onwards, NOT ONE STEP BACK! Onwards my brothers and sisters!!! Fight for what is ours!!! Remember the spirit of Nicholas, the martyr of St. Petesburg!!! For Mother Russia!!!

The Great Kingdom of Siam is at a turning point today my people! As your king I have already brought a great number of reforms to our great country. Never in our history has our country been more united, more prosperous, and more powerful. All this has however, come at a steep price. I have been forced to make concessions to the vile French Empire, and tens of thousands of our fellow Buddhists are now under their control. But no longer! The French have ruled our fellows long enough! With China as our ally we shall drive the French into the sea, along with all their enslavement and treachery! I call upon every good solder of Siam to do the same! I have already had the honor of the title "the Great," and in this new war I intend to earn that title twice over!

-Phra Bat Somdet Phra Poramintharamaha Chulalongkorn Phra Chunla Chom Klao Chao Yu Hua, King of Siam

OOC: There's also Portugal :D

Death to the Russians! Death to the enemies of the Chinese! Perhaps now they will seek a more reasonable stance with their enemies and come to the peace table.

The Japanese Empire of the East formally declares war on the Kingom of Sweden and Norway.

We Chinese are disturbed that our Asian cousins have resorted to rashly declaring war upon nations that have no prior relations with the Japanese. We request to know why Japan has taken this action.

OOC: So, anyone got any ideas as what I do with 3.5 million soldiers that I had no want nor need of?

OCC: Fry why are you controlling my nation?
OOC: Fry has said that if you post IC that in fact you won't declare war on Germany within 2 days he will consider it void.

People of Bulgaria! Today we celebrate the audaciousness and ingenuity of General Nikola Zhekov and the tactical skill of Lieutenant-General Kliment Boyadzhiev who, together, carried out the successful landings in the Crimea. They then successfully paved the way for the Romanian advance which has already got to the Dniester river. I hereby announce that Nikola Zhekov will become the first ever Field Marshal of the Bulgarian Army while Kliment Boyadzhiev will be promoted to General and made commander of all Bulgarian forces in the east.
