Fixing an old event for the Fall of Hungary

New version of event 50013 - Opportunate moment

This is currently an event by which Teke declares war on the OE during the 1421-23 War between the OE and Byzantium. It didn't happen that way. Actually in 1426, the minor Turkish states of Aydin, Mentese, and Teke were re-annexed by the Ottoman Empire. They don't seem to have put up a fight in any sources I can find.

What would folks think of an extremely time consuming set of events which would simulate the constant warfare on the Ottoman border? Bascially, events for specific provinces which would check to see if the Ottomans border that province. If they do, the province gets a revolt risk until the Ottomans no longer border the province.

Conversly, Ottoman border provinces would also have a revolt risk, as they got raided in turn.

Won't that most likely lead to lots of independent countries arising along the border?

A couple new ideas for cores:

If the ottomans control Apulia in say 1550, give them cores in Napoli, Messina, and Sicily, the second 2 only if they control malta

Cyprus should be given as a core earlier, because when the ottomans annexed the mamelukes, they inherited the claim on Cyprus.

You forgot about cores in the Crimea: Kaffa and Kerch

Maybe Morocco can be added to the cores list along with Algeria if Algeria is owned around 1650 or so

I already gave them a core on Napoli. I'm tempted with Sicily and Messina, but I don't have any evidence that the Ottomans ever claimed or tried to conquer the island. I want to stick with what's closest to history.

Cyprus should be given as a core earlier, because when the ottomans annexed the mamelukes, they inherited the claim on Cyprus.

The Ottomans didn't try and conquer Cyprus until 1571, and the result was that Spain, Venice, the Kinghts, and a few others, IIRC, went to war over it. The seizure of Cyprus was a major shock for Europe, precisely because the Ottomans never claimed it. If Selim the Sot hadn't listened to the governor of Naxos, it's unlikely they would have siezed the island at all. That said, when they did take the island, the Cypriots didn't resist or help the Venetians in anyway. They were quite glad to be free of Latin oppression. But I want there to be a price for chosing option B in the event. You get cores on Southern Spain or Cyprus, but not both.

You forgot about cores in the Crimea: Kaffa and Kerch

No I didn't. They're in the Conquests of Mehmet II the Conqueror event.

They never took it and AFAIK they never tried to take it. If you can show me a source for an Ottoman invasion of Morocco I'll discuss it with Garbon, who's writing lots of events for North Africa.

The Bakshish

Between 1481 and 1826, the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire regularly made an extra payment to the Janisaries to buy and insure their loyalty. Only the ruthless Murad IV was able to forego the payments. I have to do one event for every Sultan from Bayezid II on.

Do you think for Suleyman and after I should add an "action_b'I owe the Janisaries nothing?" The effect of this would be to remove a certain number of troops (20K+), drop stability by six, and a couple of revolts in Thrace and Anatolia.

I think so.

Isnt a stability drop by 6 an awful lot. I would suggest to maybe only use a stability drop on 2 and instead add revolts in certain provinces (Like Thrace and Anatolia, as you wrote). A stability drops by 6 have a very great impact on the whole nation and it seems a bit odd that, for example, farmers in far away provinces care so much about if the Sultan payes his troops or not, to justify a drop by 6. I think a lower drop of stability, dessertion and revolts in certain provinces (preferable thoose where large garrissons of jannisaries where located) is more justified. :)

Not paying the Jannisaries in the Ottoman Empire is a big deal. They run the army, the beurocracy, and god knows what else in the Empire.

I really think the Ottoman Empire should only get Turkish and perhaps by event Arab culture later but having Greek and Slavonic culture is silly. When were the Greeks and Slavs ever considered equals to the Turks and Arabs? There were some prominent Greeks and Slavs...but they were all slaves of the Sultan and were chosen for those positions precisely because they were second-class citizens and thus not a threat to seize power.
