Lol, was thinking about starting a German 44 AAR, but I guess you beat me to it. Hope this will end in victory instead of being forced back to Antartica or having to make a last stand in Berlin.

but those kinds are funner to watch! :D

Good God…how much are you spending on reinforcements?

Those weren't bad moves to start. I you're going the 'No Strat Deploy' route.

Freddan - Thanks. I could just be a master of deception and not really have a clue :) . Germany starts with around 850 manpower, disbanding a few HQ's has increased this a little to 880. I haven't pressed the unpause button yet so its still there.

Middelkerke, Fernando Torres - I hope to survive as long as possible.

Di3lta-303 - '44 AAR's seem to be popular. The more the merrier ;) . I don't like Penquins too much so I hope Antartica is out of the question.

rcduggan - I shall try and screw up as much as possible to keep you entertained.

Fulcrumvale - Ringel wasn't exaggerating when he said the army is at 50-55% strength. 250 German divisions and all the Luftwaffe are just about all at this strength. As to how much I am spending on reinforcements Albert Speer will let us know when he makes his report.

likk9922 - I am taking a conservative approach. A small amount of redeploying has been done but very little. I shall also not strategically deploy units that are being bombed to death as thats a little bit cheating.

Navy

"Thank you Julius." Chief of the Navy, Karl Donitz.

"The Kriegsmarine consists mainly of Submarines and is, overall, in excellent repair. The remaining surface forces will be combined and be based in Konigsberg. I have ordered the scrapping of the two early war Battlecruisers as they are now useless and are a waste of fuel. I have dispatched our transport fleet to Oslo to move the 3 divisions commanded by General Halder to the Western Front at the request of Julius Ringel."

transport1944.jpg

"The Submarines based in France will meet in the Bay of Biscay before conducting offensive operations. These I will command myself."

frenchsubs.jpg

"Their job is to engage enemy shipping to try and keep it occupied or to sink what ever it can. Our Navy is seriously outnumbered and outgunned and is by no means modern. The Submarines based in Norway and Germany have been ordered to converge in the Helgoland Bight."

germanysubs.jpg

"In order to destroy the Allies in France it is imperative to hamper their reinforcements as much as possible. Grand Admiral Marschall will lead the larger Submarine force and has been tasked with this mission. He has some ideas which look interesting, only time will tell. Our Mediterranean forces consist of two Submarines which shall remain in port for now. Whilst the Navy is in dire need of more ships to have any hope of facing the Allied combined fleets, I realise a huge and modern Navy will not save Germany at this point. At this time I make no requests for additional forces and will do what I can with what I have. Over to you Hermann."

Airforce

"Thank you Karl." Chief of the Airforce, Hermann Goring.

"The Luftwaffe is, like the Army, under strength. Unlike the Army it is also not large enough to do its job as efficiently as it could. The Bombers are outdated and need upgrading as soon as possible. The airforce is to be placed at the disposal of Army Group West under Field Marshall Model. Air units are spread far and wide at this time with no cohesion between flights."

air1944.jpg

"They have all been ordered to regroup on the Western Front."

airrebase.jpg

"All squadrons based in or around Essen are to provide air cover for OKW until such time as it is reinforced."

defendokw.jpg

"It will take a number of days for the Luftwaffe to reorganise itself and be fully operational but in the mean time it will do whatever it can to prevent the RAF and its Allies from bombing our ground troops into oblivion. With the current state of our forces in general it will not be possible for new squadrons to be raised by us. Our Allies have some aircraft, mostly gliders and kites. I have a plan for these, some may even say its a cunning plan, but a plan nonetheless. I have ordered our Allies to rebase all of their aircraft in Ploesti for the time being."

minorair.jpg

"I have a game of golf scheduled and I am hungry so I will hand over to Joachim for some Diplomacy."

What’s the Luftwaffe’s oil situation?

Diplomacy & Intelligence

"Thank you Hermann." Foreign Minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop.

"We are at War with most of the civilized world, such as Haiti, and even some parts of it that aren't civilized, such as Australia. Our Allies are few in comparison but they are mostly loyal. I have dispatched envoys to Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania informing them that due to certain problems, like sending us forces without officers, that they no longer need to worry about controlling their Military any longer."

hungaryMC1944.jpg

"It may be possible for us to obtain further Allies but doing so could make things worse by extending our defensive lines. At this time I will make no overtures to Ally anyone else, which should annoy Franco, who seems to think he can make silly demands to join us because he thinks we are doomed. He didn't want to join us when we were winning but does now we are losing, we just got rid of one lunatic I don't think we need another. I have made some deals with several Nations sympathetic to our cause to try and alleviate our oil shortage."

trades.jpg

"This cost us a lot of our energy and metal reserves but was necessary. I shall continue to acquire oil as and when I can. I will take a trip to Romania shortly and see what they want for their oil on a regular trade. As our forces are keeping the Bolsheviks out of Romania right now they should prove reasonable. Finland prefer to defend themselves and have been left in command of their troops. I have instructed our training departments to recruit less peasants to try and assist in upgrading our forces when the time comes. I will let my side kick in intelligence continue. Ernst."

"Thank you Joachim". Head of Intelligence, Ernst Kaltenbrunner.

"We have a few enemy spies in our ranks but nothing serious. Of a more serious note is our lack of spies within our enemies ranks. We only have a very rough idea of their force composition and current research goals."

june20intell.jpg

"Our research is currently concentrated in industry. We must try and keep ahead of our enemies in key areas and so we are also researching better interceptors and tanks. I have briefly discussed infantry research with Heinz and we currently are in agreement that increasing the abilities of our infantry at this time would require several oil consuming items and so we will make do with our current division set up. Research will be conducted as follows."

tech1944.jpg

"Our military spies are very efficient at this time and we are able to ascertain with a high degree of accuracy the forces directly facing us. This should aid in our defence somewhat. Our Allies are woefully behind in technology and will require a lot of assistance to catch up. Joachim knows what they need and will see to it that they get it, for a price I imagine."

minorresearch.jpg

"The Bulgarians seem to think having a large and modern Navy is the way to go, I don't have the heart to tell them that Great War ships aren't modern. They do have some troops that are useful to us so we can humour them a little. They do have some very pretty flying kites that Hermann has been eyeing up. I will now hand you over to Heinrich to tell us about Security."

"Thank you Ernst." Minister of Security, Heinrich Himmler.

"We will continue to bribe the populous in our extended homeland to work very hard in our cause. Albert informs me that the production they provide is critical at this time. The French peasantry is getting a little emboldened by the landing of Americans on their soil and will require some garrison forces when time permits. Nothing else to report. I would like to have a Field command and join in at some point though Heinz."

"Not going to happen as long as my ass points downwards Heinrich." Guderian replies.

Industrial

"Albert, I believe your the only one left?" asks Bormann.

"I believe I am Martin." Armament Minister, Albert Speer.

"Industrially we are only bettered by the Americans. I have had some quiet discussions with our armed forces chiefs and made some adjustments on their behalf."

1prod1944.jpg

"We have a little bit of dissent for placing Julius in command of the Army in the place of the late Fuhrer. Let us hope our little ruse works or that could change. I have diverted some funding to produce cuddly toys for the masses to curb this unrest. In 10 days our dissent will back to zero.

Karl has cancelled all existing submarine production and Hermann has cancelled all the fireworks. With the amount of manpower we currently have we should be able to refit all existing formations and raise some new infantry divisions at a slow pace. Manpower will remain a distinct problem for the time being dispite the uncanny ability of Heinz to attract new recruits. We currently need two thirds of our manpower to replace all of our understrength formations. Further casualties are inevitable but with our Generals no longer fighting with one hand tied behind their backs hopefully not high.

We will produce enough supplies to supply our armed forces with little surplus for now. We have sufficient stockpiles of Energy and Metal and produce a surplus of each, the only concerns are Oil and Rare Materials. Other than conquest Joachim is doing all that can be done to increase Oil. We are also researching more advanced conversion technology which should produce a little more. We do not have the time or spare capacity to increase our factories and therefore increase our Oil conversion. Should we require more Rare Materials I am sure Joachim knows someone who has some."

"Our Bulgarian Allies have a fair amount, although we may need to trade that to Hungary who are short. I can get some if we really need it though." replies von Ribbentrop.

"Transport capacity is also a problem with little that can be immediately done for it." continues Speer. "The need to move troops quickly at this time will further strain it and cannot be helped. It will remain a serious problem with no new factories to help. Partisan activity could be reduced to aid somewhat but will require the production of specialised garrison divisions. We may not have the manpower reserves for this but if and when we do I will order some raised. Julius's appointment to Chief of the Army should help as he is a master of logistics.

We currently have more than enough convoy vessels for our needs and, as we aren't going to be expanding overseas for some time, we shall need no more for now. Oil consumption should reduce greatly with the removal of a large amount of our over used Headquarters units. If we can maintain 2 static fronts and only 1 mobile front this will also greatly help. Having our surface fleet in port and minimising the use of aircraft should also help. Thats all from me."

"Thank you gentlemen. I am glad I asked only for a brief overview. We know what we must do so lets be about it shall we?" Bormann ends the meeting.

and now it just remains to unpause the game......

Note: The stockpiles are before diplomatic deals. Oil is actually 5450 after these deals.

I can't resist... therefore, I join.

Because of all the recent Germany '44 AARs, I started my '44 game, but I'm just too scared to death to unpause the game...

Thats what makes '44 a fun scenario. Doesn't matter how good your plans are there is always the possibility your going to be in a bunker in Berlin fairly soon :)

Interesting setup we have here. I love games that roleplay briefings and conferences in the AAR's, it adds a special 'touch'. ;)

Will you be playing the encircle game on the Eastern Front? I believe that really is the only way for Germany to gain a stable front.....

The Western Front is still days old and winnable. And Italy is very possible for victory.

Also, is Hitler still Head of State or have you used an event to replace him?

Kurt_Steiner - Welcome.

gilf - Thanks.

Ksim3000 - Encirclement probably at some point but not for a while, my forces are too battered. I actually tend to prefer overrunning as its quicker. The Western Front will be the first I try to remove certainly. Italy is static and can hold for a long time.

I better explain the first post a bit I suppose. SS-Gruppenfuehrer Hermann Fegelein was one of a number of 'possible' doubles for Hitler. Hitler got shot right at the start of this AAR. Who pulled the trigger hasn't been mentioned which leaves me some scope for later if I want to use it. I chose Fegelein out of the list of possibles because he is Eva Braun's brother in law and also removes her from the equation.

The German people are blissfully unaware that Hitler is dead as they think he is in the Eagles Nest with his mistress. Bormann is actually running things now but Hitler remains as Head of State as far as anyone else is concerned. So he stays, mainly because I don't edit unless I absolutely have to.

0100 June 20th 1944.
18th Armee Headquarters. Pskov, Russia.

Field Marshall von Rundstedt had just finished reading a new set of orders from Chief of the Army Julius Ringel when he was handed some reports from several Armee Groups.

The reports told him that the Soviets were starting a Front wide offensive on a massive scale. More than 240 Soviet divisions were already committed against just 53 German divisions.

june200100sovattacks.jpg

Von Rundstedt fires off some orders to his hard pressed Commanders.

General Behlendorff's 9th Armee, outnumbered 10:1, would withdraw shortly from Mogilev to Minsk.

Field Marshall von Kuchler's 4th Panzerarmee would withdraw from Rowne to Pinsk.

Lt. Genenral Kruger had already been ordered to withdraw from Ismail and would continue to do so.

Field Marshall Kesselring's 3rd Panzerarmee would withdraw from Polotsk to Swieciany. The whereabouts of Stalin's favourite General was information he needed.

The sound of large callibre artillery shells not far off told him he would be withdrawing without reading the report from his second in command General von Erdmannsdorff.

Von Rundstedt ordered the movement of other forces to keep the lines in tact and sent a situation report to Ringel before leaving.

advancing west seems like a good idea...

Julius Ringel's recinding of the previous hold at all costs orders had probably saved more than 100,000 of his soldiers and they were less than an hour old. How the new Chief of the Army had managed to convince Hitler to let him do that, was not something von Rundstedt was going to dwell on right now. Having followed orders he disagreed with completely he wasn't about to question orders he agreed with.

0100 June 20th 1944.
Field Marshall Model's Headquarters. Argentan, France.

Model looked at the report. Patton was attacking his position with equal forces. He would not be advancing into Argentan just yet.

argentanday1.jpg
didn't really want to stay here anyway...

Two hours later Patton received an additional 14 divisions. Model ordered the tactical withdraw to Paris to prevent serious casualties to his forces in a hopeless defence.

Just a question - did you fix that DD bug that causes US to start withdrawing troops from France after a while? Mind you it will start doing that eventually unless you fix it.
