@Patukov - Next chapter. Yeah, I want to keep this one as an "introduction" kind-of chapter. War stuff will start on the next update.

@Zhung Liang - Agree. Bad news if you're a pro-Romanov.

@yourworstnightm - If they want to survive, they have to choose the winning side. The workers' side!

@Tommy4ever - Wrangel's neck will look good with a noose wrapped around it!

@Ivir Baggins - Yes! The proletarians will crush the splitters. Including the Menshevik Georgians too!

Hooray for weekends! I can now start on the next chapter. Just letting you guys know that this isn't dead yet.

Chapter II: The Third Proletarian Revolution

“Wrangel, that spawn of the devil, or those godless Bolsheviks?”
-unknown

“I have an offer you cannot refuse.”

------------------------------------------------

Plan Zero One

Saint Petersburg is now experiencing another turbulence. Soldiers are running around the city again. This time, the people of Saint Petersburg are with them. Government buildings are being stormed. The pro-Wrangels were dragged from their homes or their offices. The mayor was included in the victims of the mob, being beaten up until the troops dispersed the crowd only to be sentenced to death on the spot and to be hanged at the palace square. The others are unlucky (or lucky) as they were lynched by the mob, receiving a quick death. In the streets, the Internationale can be heard with their fist in the air. The Russian Navy however sailed away before the harbour was captured.

This disorder isn't exclusive to Saint Petersburg. All the way down to Smolensk, the same event happened. All it takes was a code being passed around.

It was a chilly afternoon at 8th of February when a voice started to speak through the radios all around Russia. The voice wasn't Wrangel this time.

“Workers, Farmers and Soldiers of Russia! I am Nikolai Bukharin! Hear my plea! Rise up against that monster, Wrangel and his corrupted lackeys! The proletarian overturned the old oppressive Czar Nicolas II and what do we get? Another emperor whipping us to death! An emperor who is more oppressive than before! Cutting the head off and an uglier one will appear. We must completely eradicate the ruling class! So I ask your full cooperation. I ask the trade unions who are still under Reactionaries' control to start a general strike. Disobey your masters! Every bullet you make, it will be used against you! On the workers who are now free. Help us! Without your hard work, our brave soldiers won't have the supply and equipment that they need to make this revolution successful so that we can join our brothers in the Internationale as free and unsuppressed people. Let the workers unite!”

There was a general strike throughout Imperial Russia following the outbreak of the Third Proletarian Revolution and Bukharin's plea for a strike. The Imperial industrial capability was damaged and dissent has risen up again. The Soviets now have the upper hand.

rcwstrike.png

As chaos descends to Russia, the Soviet government was established officially. Which later received aid from the Internationale. The Union of Britain and the Commune of France sends huge numbers of well armed volunteers, supplies, industrial experts and military advisors.

Pskov. 3 days ago.

“...so what's your plan?” Bukharin asked.

“The plan will be divided into two operations. Operation Trotsky and Operation Poltava. Operation Poltava will be an offensive towards Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, capturing the vital cities and their ports. This is the course of things if Finland didn't intervene.” Tukhachevsky explained and looked at Litvinov. The foreign minister just nodded. The three of them understood that a two front war may spell the end of the Revolution.

poltava.png

Operation Poltava

“Operation Trotsky will be an offensive towards Moscow. One army group will advance towards Rzhev, to Tver, cross the Volga and circles around until they meet up. The other group will move towards Noginsk and circles around until the two meets. Trapping the forces around Moscow for an easy capture. There will be assistance from the Imperial divisions who defected to us. They will assist us in the South pincer and the North.”

trotsky.png

Operation Trotsky

“That's it? ”

“Yes, comrade. That's it for now.”

“Is that enough to bring them down?”

“Uh, I'm not sure about that. They can still fight with the Siberian industry and the remaining armies they still have around Russia. But if Poltava is a success, it will stop the external trade and to deny the Imperial navy any shelter if they didn't defect. And with the capture of the capital, it'll be a major blow on Imperial morale. It's also a possibility that we may capture people on high position.” Remembering his worse experience back at the siege of Moscow. “Moscow also has the largest industry in the whole of Russia. Once this plan succeeds, we will continue on to Tsaritsyn and to the Urals.”

“Well done, comrade. I'm glad that I've made a good choice on putting you as the Marshall.”

--------------------

In the freezing morning of 15th of February 1936, the first shot of the Third Proletarian Revolution was fired in an industrial town called Volkhov. Three Red Guards division against three Imperial divisions whom just recently captured the town.

“All they can do is just to sit and watch. How frustrating for them. How delightful for us.”
-Nikolai Bukharin

“Germany won't. I promise.”
-Oswald Mosley's assurance to the Congress of Trade Unions

------------------------------------------------

Hands Off

The Soviet government's limited budget has been decided. Aside from using some of it for consumer goods, most of it are directed on supplying the Red Army with the remainder on strengthening the turncoat divisions since most of them are undermanned.

sovietbudgetjan1936.png

----------

The first battle of the civil war ended that same day resulting in a victory for the Soviets. The Red Guards assembled from Novgorod and Luga now advances through Volkhov on their way to Murmansk and Arkhangelsk. With the Imperial turncoats catching up on their backs. However the army corps turncoats in Saint Petersburg were ordered not to join in the operation. They will guard the capital of the new worker's state just in case the Finns sides with the White Russians.

Operation Trotsky at the south, started with a minor setback with the Imperial forces halted the Red Army's advance at Mozhaisk in the 17th of February, 2 days after the battle of Volkhov.

----------

London. 16th February 1936.

Oswald Mosley just finished his statement in the Trade Union Congress. The opinions were mixed. The Congregationalists were, of course, opposed against his proposal. His proposal that the Union of Britain would recognize the Soviet Russia and guarantees its independence against Germany. Mosley satisfies the Congress that he doesn't suggest that the country should be directly involved in the on-going civil war. Respecting Britain's isolationism but protecting their Socialist brothers from destruction. Plus, a Red Russia will be crucial on challenging Mitteleuropa. The votes were counted and with a marginal victory, the Congress accepted his proposal. A morale victory for Mosley and the Maximists.

oswaldmosley.jpg

Mosley was jubilant after the meeting in TUC.

Litvinov was present as an observer. He can't wait to bring the good news back to Russia. Now that Britain agrees, France, who is more interventionists than Britain, will automatically follow suit. Valois, the head of the Sorelian faction, assures the Soviet diplomat.

The results was a diplomatic victory for the Soviets. With the Berlin Stock Market Crash (a.k.a. “Black Monday”) just a fortnight ago and the threat of facing a war with both Britain and France. No longer will Germany intervenes in the war like last time. Germany's intervention was not more than military aid.

rcwaid.png

The only thing that worries Litvinov now is the outcome of Vyshinsky's mission.

-------------------

In the 20th of February, the turncoat army engaged the Imperial troops in Demyansk. Three Imperial divisions defending against six Soviet divisions with one of them equipped with T-27 tanks. These are the only tanks in the Russian arsenal and they defected to the Bolsheviks. The battle raged for 3 days until the Imperial troops withdraw. Another victory for the Soviets.

t27-1.jpg

Obtaining the only tank division in the Russian army gave the Soviets some advantages.

A day before the battle of Demyansk ended. The Red Guards, just north of them, advanced to Vytegra. Amazingly, an Imperial division held the region for 5 days against six Red Army divisions thanks to its dense forest terrain and bad weather. In the end, the push for Arkhangelsk remains unstopped.

Back in the South, Operation Trotsky finally starting to go on the right track as Rzhev was captured and repelled a counter-attack at the 23rd of February and an attack on Vyazma at the 26th, finally securing it 2 days later.

frontline1.png

So far, the situation looks very optimistic to the Soviets.

---------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that's it for the month of February. The terrain was crap. The weather was crap. The advance was slow and only a few battles.

Do you guys like screenshots of the in-game battles?

One and indivisible

Helsinki. 27th February 1936

Vyshinsky and his aides were with the Finnish king, Fredrik Kaarle I; the prime minister and leader of the staunch anti-left Lapua Movement, Vihtori Kosola and the foreign minister, Hilja Riipinen. Litvinov sent him here and strictly said that this mission must be a success. This is going to be difficult.

The greetings went smooth. So far, the conversation was doing pretty well.

"I heard your people are having a bad time"

The Finns snubbed the diplomat's remark. Finland felt the full effect of the Black Monday a week ago as the economy went spiralling out of control.

blackmondayfinland.png

Kosola then inquired “Why are you here?”

Now it's time to lay the cards.

“A deal between our two great nations.”

“A deal with you, Reds? Do you think we would make that happen?”

Vyshinsky then turned to the king “Looks like your prime minister does not understand why we are here. So we would ask you instead.”

“What is it?” replied the king

“Your neutrality in our war.”

“Why would we agree with that? In fact, we are already prepared to invade you!”

Vyshinsky knew that it was a half lie. It's true that they would join the war some time as they were constantly pressured by Moscow but they were unprepared and their economy is in turmoil.

“We would give you Karelia and Lapland.”

The Finns were a bit startled at his words. Karelia and Lapland. These lands were contested between them and Russia in 1921. Only to sign the unsatisfying Treaty of Tartu later that year. Now, these Reds were giving those lands to them for free. Wait... for free?

“In exchange for what, mister Vyshinsky?”

“Your neutrality.”

“Just our neutrality?”

He heard his demand for neutrality before but he wants to be careful with these Bolsheviks. Vyshinsky then replies, confirming what he just said. The king then asked the Soviet delegates to politely excuse him, the prime minister and the foreign minister for a moment and went into the next room, his office. Vyshinsky smiled, he finally cracked them.

The next day, Finnish soldiers poured through the Imperial borders without any declaration of war. The battles were few and the advance was swift due to the small number of troops available in there. It was a devastating strategic victory for the Soviets as Operation Poltava is halfway done with Murmansk under Finnish control and a two front war nightmare is no longer a possibility. Negative response to the aggression was nothing more than words of condemnation from Germany and Russia.

--------------

Moscow. 3rd of March 1936

The generals of the Imperial army are all on their seats with a huge table in the middle. The Czar is with them and Supreme Field Marshall Denikin. Everyone was worried on the progress on the war and the explosive event that took place in the opening of the month. After asking for their aid, Finland responded with an invasion against them. But that's not all.

The new Czar was fuming when he heard the news “Siberia? No! Ho.. how did- can someone enlighten us, please!”

One of the generals stood up and explained the situation. “Your Highness, it was one of our field marshall who was behind this. His name is Nikolai Avksentiev. He is the head of a conspiracy ring to establish a new state called Siberia. Many our armies in Siberia are now refusing to follow our orders and are now practically under his control.”

siberiantroops.png

The conspirators' influence was widespread that many army groups became loyal to Siberia.

“How come no one saw this coming!?”

Everyone was quiet.

“YEZHOV!?”

The Okhrana chief was startled. “I- I don't know”

“You don't know!? This is YOUR job!” He then face towards the nervous general standing “What else about Siberia?”

“uuhh... yes. Sternberg mobilised his troops and invaded Siberia. Transamur also declared war on Siberia and Japan supported the puppet state by declaring war as well.”

rcwsiberia.png

“On other matters?”

“The Ukrainians laid a claim to the lands east of them up to the river Don. Fortunately, they haven't done any further aggression...”

rcwukraine2.png

“...Next. The cossacks. Unfortunately, they, like the Finns, have also crossed the border and invaded the lands until they reached Tsaritsyn and the other areas around it.”

rcwcossacks2.png

“How did this happened?”

Georgij Brassov, the foreign minister finally spoken “I believe that the Finnish invasion started this chain reaction. Without the Finns attacking the Soviet rear, Avksentiev predicts that the Soviets could hold out so he took this chance. After the Siberian revolt, other nations just acting out of opportunity. So far, our diplomats have strike a deal with Alash Orda and Ruthenia to stay put. They also stopped the Ukrainians from taking their claims by force. On the other hand, our delegates on the cossacks have failed and the Finnish king declines audience with our ambassador.”

Wrangel then sighed. “Declare war against those Siberians and the Cossacks. Not to the Ukrainians since they haven't moved yet and they are under Mitteleuropa. Continue to convince the Finnish to our side.”

“But Your Highness!” Denikin finally spoken. “We will be fighting a three front war! The Bolsheviks on the west, Siberians at the east and the Cossacks at the south, we cannot fight like this! Nearly a third or a half of our armies are now Siberian and the remaining hasn't even been completely reinforced yet!”

“Silence, Denikin! We will crush these foolish Bolshevik weaklings just like last time! We shall flatten those traitors in Siberia and we will mow down those horse riders with our machine guns! Russia is one and indivisible!”

----------------

Unknown location. Evening of the same day.

It has been hours since the meeting ended. He made sure that no one followed him as he orders soldiers loyal to him to patrols the streets. Denikin was the last who joined inside. He bow down to the Grand Duke Dmitri. Along with the Grand Duke were several high position officers in the Imperial army.

This is the first meeting that they had, no plans or schemes were formulated yet but they know the purpose of this meeting. To save Mother Russia from not just the Bolsheviks but also from Wrangel and his cronies. It lead to the creation of a secret band called “The army of Peter”. Named after the great Czar who once ruled this country. The secret meeting ended with Denikin and the officers swore allegiance to the Romanov.

------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So much for being one and indivisible.

Wait, why does Transamur exist? Why would it split off from the Russian Empire? And shouldn't the Cossacks be allied to the Whites, as well?

Transamur exists from the beginning. It is a Japanese puppet governed by a treacherous Russian, Alexander Kolchak. According to the official canon of KR, he was trying to coup Russia but only succeeded in securing Vladivostok, so that's why he turned to the Japanese for help.

@Zhung Liang - Yeah. Now I have competition on grabbing the Tsarists lands. I don't like that! :p

@Strategos' Risk - The cossacks are an independent nation. Why they are fighting the Tsarists? I'll blame the event files. :p I don't know if they got a choice to ally with Russia.
According to KR timeline, yes. The Soviets were defeated at that time but Kolchak staged a coup against Kerensky (who is a Socialist or some form of Left). The coup fail without Denikin and Wrangel's support.

@Battle bunny - Yup.

@Deus Eversor - To make matters worse, the Don-Kuban Union is protected by Germany. Things won't be easy for the Soviets.

Update!

“The British have always practice and talked about isolationism and yet they are now grabbing Ireland's balls for laughs.”
- Bukharin's remark on the British Republican Navy's show of force towards Ireland.

“We work so hard to earn our money but only to be bled dry by our landlords and the taxman! Where this money would go? Of course! To feed the ruling class! These pigs sat in their thrones doing nothing but partying and gossiping while we, honest and industrious proletarians, have to suffer for their mistakes! That is right! They ruined the economy in the first place and who is going to fix it? The working men and women of Spain! The farmers, the fishermen, the factory workers, the builders! Open your eyes, dear workers of Spain! Come and join us! Put your fist in the air! We will rise and destroy this corrupt regime and create the workers paradise that our comrades in France, Britain and southern Italy are having!

Workers of the world unite!”

Slowly but surely

The first battle of the month of March was at the 6th day. An Imperial counter attack at Demyansk against the outnumbered Soviets but thanks to the landships' firepower and the ongoing winter, the Imperial army was defeated. But then, at the 11th day of March, the Red Army fail to advance into Severodvinsk after a battle for the province for 2 days. Arkhangelsk is still far away.

Down at the south, Tukhachevsky and Voroshilov, the head of the army branch, have decided to test a concept called “fast assault” against Imperial positions where the focus is towards mobility over firepower combined with overwhelming numbers. This might be the solution to prevent this war from prolonging. The first battles under this test happened in Mozhaisk and Rybinsk in the 15th of March. After 11 days, the results were mixed. The Imperial forces were pushed out of Mozhaisk but not on Rybinsk.

In the 16th, the Soviet forces commanded by Major General Konev in Demyansk have advanced to Cherepovets supported by Field Marshall Blucher's (the chief commander of “Poltava”) Red Guards, hoping to surround an Imperial army in the north.

Despite the harsh winter, the Soviets are gaining ground.

rcwartillery-1.png

Turncoat soldiers were useful on providing additional firepower with their artillery brigades. Something that the paramilitary doesn't have.

---------

In March 19, France has proudly announced that the most important event in the Internationale will be held as planned. With Germany keeping an eye on this vital event at the distance.

frenchcongress.png

Bukharin is now preparing the Soviet delegates who would attend the Internationale Congress. It would be foolish if they didn't attend.

---------

Back in the civil war, the Red Army has pushed back the Imperial advance towards Novgorod at the 20th. It's only a matter of time that this Imperial army will be encircled as the Soviets have finally captured Cherepovets in the 2nd of April and successful defended it. The attack on the trapped Imperial forces have commenced at the next day. It seems that they won't hold out for long.

In Operation Trotsky, the southern pincer have reached Mozhaisk and defeated the Imperial counter attack on 26th of March. 3 days later, the north pincer attacked Rybinsk again, hoping this time they would succeed.

Gameplay notes: In this update, I was researching Mobility Focus. The Red Guards option gave me the Human Wave path. I don't know the preferred doctrine of Soviet Russia in the KR universe but I feel comfortable using this path than Grand Battle or Superior Firepower.

And yeah, the war is still going slow but we are winning.

The curse

It was already morning at the 5th of April. Bukharin was smiling, holding today's Pravda with the headlines:

“VICTORY AT TIKHVIN!”

It wasn't Moscow but it was a damn morale booster for the Soviets. For 2 days the Imperial army fought desperately but in the end, it was futile. 5 Imperial divisions surrendered to the victorious Red Army. It was the biggest victory they got so far. What happened there is that the Imperial defences on the North was gutted. All that is left that's stopping them from Arkhangelsk are probably just one Imperial division. Maximum of three if they ever got additional support.

“Well done, comrades! Five today and fifty the next time! Tukhachevsky, I'm glad you made it here.”

“Of course.”

“So let's begin shall we?”

The cabinet nodded and replied in agreement.

“What is the next step in this war?”

The Field Marshall of the Soviet Russia replied “Yes. The Red Army under Field Marshall Blucher is already pushing to Severodvinsk as we speak. I'm confident that the remaining defenders will be no match to our forces. The forces under Voroshilov are still fighting in Rybinsk.”

“Good. Very good.”

“uhmm comrade Bukharin?” said Kaganovich, the armaments minister.

“Yes?”

“There is something that concerns me. Our turncoat divisions have fought courageously but they cannot fight to their fullest because they are still undermanned. They are having trouble when they're fighting against German and Finnish volunteer divisions.”

“What do you suggest?”

“I suggest that we shift our production from supplies to reinforce the divisions. We can stop the production for military goods. The army can survive for months since we have a huge surplus.”

“I see. We will shift the productions then. But only half goes to that. The other half will be goods for our citizens. I received reports that there is a huge shortage of consumer goods. We need the people in our side.”

Moscow. 8th of April

A bump on the road woken him up. He's not in the mood to say anything to the chauffeur. He stared outside, it was the Kremlin. He keep staring at it until he start to doze off again. Again, he was disturbed. The car stopped. “What the hell is wrong with you?” he said angrily to the driver. The driver didn't say anything nor turned to him. He then looked at the front, he can see three soldiers standing in there armed with rifles. “They told me to stop, sir.” He froze for a few seconds. Hearing the sound of boots, he then stared outside; left, right and back. The troops have surrounded the vehicle. An officer among the soldiers then shouted “Supreme Field Marshall Denikin, please step out of your vehicle.” He didn't budge. He is still frozen with fear. “...or else we will shoot.” The riflemen aims their weapon towards the passengers. He nervously stepped outside the vehicle and his driver fearfully watched the event unfolding. “Put down your pistol”

“Do you know who I am? Have some respe-”

“Shut up! I said put your pistol down. That is an order... Field Marshall!” Denikin was furious at the lack of respect displayed by the officer but he has no choice. He slowly picked up his pistol from the holster and dropped it in front of him.

“Supreme Field Marshall Denikin, you are under arrest for treason!”

--------------------

“Trotsky” HQ. 2nd of May, 1936

Voroshilov slammed his hand on the table. He said something, maybe he swore or just a random word. It doesn't matter anyway. The Red Army has finally broken Rybinsk! He said something again, this time he swore and said “About time!” the officers can't help but to cheered and laugh. It has been a month of frustrating battles for Operation Trotsky since their defeat at that same place on the 7th of April, 1936. After that, they regain some confidence after destroying 2 Imperial divisions trapped in Bezhetsk, in the 9th of April. While in the southern pincer, the Red Army were also defeated as they tried to take Noginsk twice, just south of Moscow, in the 17th and today. He just heard the news that the Red Army are withdrawing back to Mozhaisk. During this month, Moscow was directly attacked for 3 times which result in a defeat but the attacks were done to keep the bulge of the Imperial army inside the capital.

The Red Army is now advance to Rybinsk. This wouldn't be possible if not for the additional troops from “Poltava”. Since the decisive victory in Tikhvin, several corps are now free to be transferred to Voroshilov. Blucher was confident that his two Red Guards corps will be enough to take Arkhangelsk. He was correct. After two battles, the Red Guards are now marching towards the city.

Moscow. 15th of April.

The accused were all lined up in the court. Field Marshall Denkin and several other officers. With the exception of the Grand Duke, who was in the centre being questioned. As most of the people present there knows that those questions and answers won't matter anyway. This is just a show. A farce.

“Your Highness, are you involve on this conspiracy against our beloved and God-appointed Czar Pyotr IV and to Mother Russia?”

“No! I am loyal to Mother Russia. I will never betray her. Never.”

“Are you trying to usurp our emperor!?”

“No.”

“Ahhh! But we have evidence to support that you and your dogs tried to do so! 'Army of Peter' it was called.” He looked down to the pages of paper he is holding. “With that name against our Czar.” He laughed “The irony! And according to the evidence, the 'Army of Peter' were planning to start a coup d'etat!”

“I'm doing this for Russia! The throne of Caesar has always been under the Romanovs for centuries! Can't you see? We are losing the war! He is poisoning this land with his greed and corruption. He will bring this country down into the depths of hell itself!”

The crowd starts to hush with their whispering and some are shouting towards the accused.

“Order!” the judge slams the hammer again and again. “Your Highness, Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich Romanov, you are sentenced to death by firing squad this noon. You will be stripped of your titles and your children will renounce theirs too.” the judge then bestow the same sentence to the other officers including Denikin.

dmitridenikin.png

Field Marshall Denikin and the Grand Duke Dmitri Romanov

By noon, just a couple of hours since the hearing. Several officers were already shot. Batch after batch. The firing squad tirelessly pour the doomed with their lead bullets. The last batch were called in, Dmitri and Denikin with three other officers walked towards their position. Dmitri looked around. Some were crying, some looked apathetic. He kept looking. Kyril wasn't here. Just Wrangel and Yezhov. The priest blessed the soon-to-be dead and made a short prayer.

“Wrangel!”

The Czar didn't moved a muscle.

“I had a vision!”

He only blinked.

“Saint Justin will visit you...”

He moved his brows. Puzzled.

“...and he will curse you to hell!”

------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gameplay notes: I got dissent because I declared war on Siberia by event. The other choice is alliance, which is a big no-no.

The Army of Peter is just my creation. I just put it in there to make things interesting (I hope). It's just that I find it a bit weird that they were okay with Wrangel as their Czar.
