I in this AAR i will try to use the new underground resistance feature of For The Motherland.

So let's start:

A year has past since the shamefull defeat and after the invasion of URSS and the withdrawal of many German units from France the Goverment in exil has imagine a new battle plan: a massive and organised rebellion. But the Allied command is againts this operatoin so free France will have to use it's own ressources to build up a massive underground army.

So the situation in 1941 is:
-franch is a government in exile (no or few diplomatic options, can't take territories, can't trade....)
-5 avaible ic
dbut2.png

-a few manpower and leadership
-a 10 000 man army strew over the French colonies
dbut.png

-a fleet in england

The plan is to build underground resistance (4 per year) and let it spread until it has become strong enough.

Note well: i will focus on France and i will not make reports about the other theaters and ia action except if it's happen in france (especially the multiple "Dieppe Raid" of the English army in Europe)

Unfortunatly i can't build underground resistance in the south of france (Vichy regime). The net spreads quite quickly, it takes 3 month to automaticaly develop. Also with a zero supression level they are never detected.

September 1942:

May 1943:

As the net is quickly spreading i am now waiting for an allied invasion in france and i will try to support it with an uprising.

you're doing a good job spreading the resistance

having said that, it may be an idea to put the images in a bit larger. Check out one of the image loading sites and see if that makes it easier for you - if in doubt look at the FAQ in my signature

So by the end of september 1943 the net is almost complete. But French specialists think that we must wait for an allied landing if we want the operation to be effective. We have only one try because every liberated region will be sacked by germans if we loose it and the underground movement will be dismantle.

The free france command has asked an allied landing and becan to build a net in Netherland and Belgium.

thats a huge improvement in terms of clarity. It also looks like France has a nasty case of measles.

Utterly intrigued to see where this is going.

Obviously a clever biowarfare plot by la Resistance, their cunning knows no bounds!

So by June 1945, bored to wait for an Allied landing the Free French leaders decided to launch the uprising.

172*3000=500 000 mens a huge army !!!!

But a weak army:

So the strategy is to take harbor, major cities and encircle german troops:
sanstitre1ug.png

The German Army was strong and well armed, trhe deafeat was unevitable as the allied send no reinforcement. Nevertheless The French command tryed to preserve the most unerground bases as possible.

Patriots trying to take Paris:

The slow defeat:

hoi3game201201131738127.jpg

So by the end of August the battle was over, but the Russians had taken Romania and Germans have to move many troops to the east after the battle of france and as the net was recovering the French Command decided to do it again in 3 or 4 months. (i really saw the troops leaving France)

Can't you send some of those rebellions to Algeria or other colonies?
Maybe you'd appear as french territory rather than british one ..

Your officer ratio was probably too low. Also, it's a shame that the Allies didn't help you.

Question: Does a defeated nation retain it's officers? If yes, the officer ratio shouldn't have been a problem. If no, how many can one retain?

Couldn't you spread your cells into the BeNeLux as well? How about other places?

-Before the iuprising my officer ratio is stack to 140% (easy to reach with a 10 000k army).
-French African colonies had been sized by England, and Indochina by Guanxi.
-i really can't size any territory and if i loose one, for example Beirut, i can't retake it.
-i can develop resistance in Benelux even if there is a high supression level but vichy France surendered to USA and even if it was retaken by germany i just can't build underground resistance here.

-don't read this if you don't want to know what will happen next:the second urising will be succesfull and involve diversions in Benelux.

This is a very interesting AAR exploring a underused function of the game please continue. :)

Very intriguing. :)
Could you perhaps have initiated a landing yourself? Even if your regular army is tiny, the allies may have reinforced such a landing more willingly than start one themselves.

Four months later the France underground army has recovered:

And another net was developed in Netherland:
hoi3game201201131749041.jpg

So in february 1945, fearing the Soviet Union and wanting to preserve France from the reds the Franch Command urged for a new action:
-2 weeks before D-Day, a diversion uprising in Netherland
-on D-Day an uprising involving 140 regiments (32 less than the first time)

The goal this time is to play cat and mouse: the germans have no more than 50 000 mens in France and French are ten time more. So the germans will not be able to destroy any division because as partisans can quickly take back any territory with theit huge number they will always be able to retreat.
I have 140 division so i can afford to send some to germany to distract ythem.

hoi3game201201131752021.jpg

The war goes simple: the germans can't do anything because of supllies issues and partisans are too weak to attack them so they free all France expect a few aeras.

France was quickly liberated and the new French government settled in Paris. They ordered the rising of 10 militia divisions and leadership was used to form new officers.

hoi3game201201131802308.jpg

The situation in western Europe:
hoi3game201201131758372.jpg

Here an exemple of how the war is going: Bitburg
The city is protected by a strong garnison division, french partisans sized Lusembourg, attacked they must fall back but other partisans sized Bitburg, they are attacked....
Partisans are to weak and retreat easily and as long as germany doesn't have any fast moving unit they can't destroy them.

Bonus another map:

Well, the Red Army is almost in Königsberg, thus the Germans are pressed elsewhere. They're losing the war, hence the successful uprising. You can find and destroy partisand cells, but it is really annoying and even here the MP brigades aren't worth their cost. Keeping a few mobile units in the area (as a human player) should suffice to seal off such uprisings and deal with them in detail.

I don't know if occupation laws affect the Resistance stuff at all. I would imagine that the more lenient the occupation policy, the harder it would be to establish resistance cells, whereas the harsher the occupation policy, the easier it should be to get people to join such an organisation.
