I think you should expand a little bit in Italy ( after your BB drops ) so you can get more manpower to fight Aragon with, or you could expand in north africa because it has the correct religion so it will give you more income and manpower

Chapter 11: Right Where it Belongs

I was horrified as the head rolled across the floor near to where my habitat was. I thought that if the king was ruthless enough to behead a man, what would stop him from taking me out of my habitat and squishing me on the spot. This act also lowered my opinion of him, as apparently it did with other European Nations, as Yusurf III got heavy reprimands from the Pope and the King of Portugal. A few days after the beheading, Yusurf III coronated himself as the “Sultan of New Castille.” After wards, he gave a speech, that would yet again cause unprecedented uproar and change.

“ It is my belief, that to further the goals and wills of our country, we need to adapt to the western ways. “ Yusurf III said.

“From now on, the only language spoken in public places will be Spanish or Latin and children in the land will not be taught the teachings of Aristotle and Plato.”

The crowd then, like the previous time, erupted in anger, except this time, Yusurf III wouldn’t be as fortunate. As the crowd closed in, the cavalry was hesitant to react. One woman, about the age of sixty, drew out a curved dagger and stabbed Yusurf III in the leg. By then, from orders of Khaliq, the Royal Guard attacked the mob and yet again pushed them back to their hovels. The king was escorted back to the palace where a “trained” doctor cleaned the wound and applied dressings. Over the course of the night, the Yusurf III’s leg would stop bleeding, but he would remain forever crippled, nd would receive the nickname, “Yusurf the Lame”

Even though the Royal Guard had put down the revolt in Granada, the feelings of revolt and dissident had spread to all parts of the country, with two plots being foiled by the Granadan spy system one the eve of their attempt. However, as well as the Granadan Police and Internal Spy System had performed, they were unable to catch one group of revolvers in the act.

“How dare they revolt against a man of my stature, don’t they know where they stand in this god-forsaken pecking order.” Yusurf III yelled, obviously angry at the news he had just received.

“ They obviously don’t.” Aamir replied.

“How many men do they have?” Yusurf III demanded.

“They have about 7,000 men, and are lead by a man by the name Gulliem d’Ors, a former captain in the Castilian army.”

“Good, prepare my horse and tell the men that at dawn, we march to attack the rebels.”

“But sir, your leg.” Aamir replied.

‘Bah, legs are used only for walking, I’ll be riding a horse.”

I was carried to the battle camp by Aamir, who I had figured assumed the role as Yusurf III’s servant. The battle camp was positioned on top of the hill, and my habitat was placed where I would have a perfect view of the battle. I went to sleep and the next day the battle commenced.

At the beginning of battle, only all of the infantry and a handful of cavalry was sent into the battle. For the first few hours, both sides traded blows with tactical retreats and advances, with both sides suffering equal causalties. This changed when the two regiments of cavalry began their charge straight into the rear of the rebel’s line, with the charge being led by Yusurf III himself. The rebels then lost their poise, causing them to break for the hills. In total, the rebels lost approximately 4,500 men, compared to only 1,750 casualties on the Granadan side. Later the rebels were chased down outside of Almeria and promptly surrendered, with Gulliem being promptly executed. It would be the last rebellion led in order to reverse the process of westernization as the empire became more stable and the whispers of revolt died down.

Is it just me, or have all AAR pictures the problem that a part of the date is cut off? Just about every AAR I read, the right side of the year is slightly cut off.

Can you upgrade your units to western ones? That would be an interesting situation as the current units you have are better, but won't remain so, and you don't know if you'll have a suitable ruler to do it at a better time.

Chapter 12: A Slap in the Face of Catholicism

I awoke to the sound of trumpets. It had appeared that the Sultan had called a royal herald to read some new information about something all sultan-like. Unfortunately, due to the crowd noise of those who had gathered there to see the speech made, I was not able to go back to sleep:
“Greetings ladies and gentlemen of the realm, it in our honor that the most glorious sultan is pleased to announce a new legislation regarding all of those who wish to join his majesty’s army,” Aamir announced, with Yusurf III nodding and standing beside him.
He continued reading, “This newly written legislation forbades any soldier of the Sultan’s army and those who wish to join it who does not speek Greek or Latin. Thank you that is all.”
Aamir and Yusurf III left the crowd to muble among themselves and retired to their respective chambers. Over the next few weeks, a test was given out verbally to all the soldiers of the army, asking them to speak at least four sentences in Latin or Greek, with those who failed were immediately thrown out of the army. Over those next few weeks, an estimated five thousand men left the camps. However, not all was bad with this mass exodus of men, It eliminated some of the less intelligent officers in the army, which allowed unproven officers who would normally not get a chance get a chance to prove that they were worthy to lead the talented men of the Army.

For the next few months, the realm was at peace with itself, and the army had finally finished administrating the tests required to remain in the army. However, in the beginning of 1432, Granadan nobles began to call for war with the Papal States, as to provide “A slap in the face of the Catholic World.”
The arguing in the great hall had been going on for hours. At first it had started off as a casual debate pertaining to what to do to consolidate their territories in Italy, but when Jamal brought up the possibility of annexing the Papal States, it was like he set fire to a dynamite factory. On one side were the nobles that represented and sided with the Burghers, who thought when Granada annexed the Papal States, Europe would respond with a mass-embargo of Granada. On the other sides were nobles who were highly militaristic and would take any chance to expand their country. They argued that conquering Rome would bring so much wealth and prestige that it would counterbalance any economic repercussions from Europe. After hearing both side’s arguments, Yusurf III made his decision. War.
Joining the Papal States were the trade state of genoa and the crusader state of Achaea. Yusurf III ordered the 5000 men that had been stationed in Italy to muster in Florence and attack the Papal forces besieging Anacona. The battle of the siege of Anacona was a smashing success for the Granadan army. The granadans lost only 450 men compared to the 750 lost to the papa states. Yusurf III then ordered the army to give chase to the defeated papal army.

When the two armies met for a second time, outside of Romagna, it was successfully defeated. This same result kept repeating itself over a course of two months until the pope surrendered his army outside of Rome. With all of the large papal forces defeated, Yusurf iii ordered the army to be divided in to two forces of 2,000 and 3,000 men to besiege Rome and Romagna. Rome was unfortunate to be the first to fall. Jamal, who happened to be leading the force to capture Rome, ordered his men to desecrate loot and burn any symbol of Catholicism in the city, which caused widespread destruction and grief. However, Jamal, knew better then to cause harm to the Pope, as to not further anger the Catholic world. The Pope and the College of Cardinals were given an escort consisting of two hundred and fifty men from the soldiers guarding the walls. Romagna shortly fell after during July and the two provinces were officially integrated the day after. Genoa signed for a white peace when they received a forged letter threatening war with genoa on the behalf of Milan.

After the conquest of Rome, many Muslim pilgrims would flock to Rome to see the once famous and glorious beacon of Catholicism reduced to ashes. To further attract these pilgrims, who later would go on to spread Islam throughout Italy, Yusurf III ordered the order of a large temple to commemorate the “Salvation of Rome.” The conquest of Rome had brought many rewards to Granada, but all the risks had not yet been run.

I can't imagine how Catholic Europe would have responded to the the capture of Rome by a Muslim state. Probably not well.

I think the burghers were right to worry what the response would be.
