Nicely done. :)

how many test games did you do before this one?! There is a small chance for a Castille-Aragon war. Even slimer chance Aragon winning. Slimist chance of Aragon being in a war with Castille and winning within the first decade of the game.

good going. Can we get a SS of your slider positions and finance chart? What is your military support limit now?

You ARE awesome, and we all know it! :)

Chapter 8: From the Darkness

The king was a very busy man after his successful invasion of Castille. Many things needed to be done as the new lads needed to be reconsolidated and the citizens needed to be brought under a new flag. One of the crowns jewels of these new conquest was Sevilla. Over the past century, Sevilla had grown form a small, unimportant town to a bustling, prominent trade center through which most of Iberia’s and North Africa’s wealth came through. However, due to a long Spanish embargo, the Granadan government was unable to trade there. Now that Granada had control of the city, Granadan traders were free to trade in the city’s marketplace. To help assist and fund the trading, the king ordered the support of a trading company called the MTC or the Muslim Traders of Cadiz. The head of these traders was Naim, a short, unshaven man that was known throughout the lands for his bartering skills. He immediately organized a five groups of traders to potentially gain a foot hold in Sevilla.

“So Naim, have you received word on those five groups of traders you sent out?” the king asked Naim after calling him into his room.

“Actually, my liege, I had just received new yesterday that all five groups of our traders were successful in setting up shop. Due to our policies favoring our traders over any Iberian or Christian nation for that matter, all five of the trading groups we knocked out worked for the Castilian government.” Naim replied excitedly.

“Do you happen to know how much this new trade is bringing in in terms of income?” The king replied while asking a question.

“If your treasurer’s reports are correct, it has brought in over 30 percent more ducats.”

“Very good Naim, your work will be rewarded.”

The next month or so passed uneventfully as the king mostly stayed in his chambers. I spent most of the time sleeping or wishing they invented spider Ipods.

However, next month, he prepared for his brother’s coronation. From what I heard, his brother was being made the duke of Sevilla. Many of the celebrations including a parade and afterwards, a party. The parade itself would include many famous counts and at the very, the king and what would be the newly appointed duke. The duke himself would be heir to the throne, and granting him the title of Duke of Sevilla would give him a taste of governing an area.

As the day of the coronation grew closer, the city became more lively as preparations were coming into place. The streets were decorated with flowers and the beggars were thrown into jail. The day of the coronation, the king woke up ate breakfast, and got dressed as usual, but the rest of his day was not normal.

The parade had gone fine until we reached a point on the route where a small arch overhangs the street and is surround by buildings on either side. Before we went under the bridge the king’s horse was shot in the leg by a crossbow bolt, sending the king and I flying to the ground, hitting the dirt with high impact. Without any time to react, two men jumped down from the overhanging arch and shouted “Death to the Sultan” in Spanish. The two armed en swiftly stabbed the king in the heart, killing him almost instantly, and then slipped into the shadows.

While the guards gave chase to the two men that killed the king, his brother sat there cradling his dead brother’s head, crying.

I think taking Rome would be fitting revenge for this act of 'unprovoked' aggression.

Didn't realise that Seville was a CoT - that must help your finances considerably. How large an army can you afford at the moment?

Enewald- Spanish i what i want to be Spanish

Dewirix- yes, but that will come later. Also i can fund approxiamately 26,000 men

Garudamon11- Lol, i had no idea, i just picked something that sounded arabian, and that is what i got.

Chapter 9: The Winds of Change Are Blowing

Many a man and woman, both noblemen and peasantry, would enter the room two days later to view the tomb of the fallen king. I, myself, was a bit saddened, for I had grown fond of the king as I followed him around as he did his royal duties.

Bringing up the end of the line were the king’s brother, Yusurf III and his wife, Naima. As Yusurf approached his brother, he began to cry.

He grabbed his dead brother’s hand. “I will avenge you, my brother, the Spanish will pay for their unspeakable act they have done to our nation!”

Something in the tone of hi voice told me that he meant it, and that the Spaniards act would not go unpunished. Yusurf III’s coronation was scheduled for about a week. As a preventative measure, a large contingency of cavalry would accompany Yusurf III on his parade. Also, I decided not to ride on the king’s crown, for last time I was almost squished when the king was thrown of his horse.

The coronation went without a hitch, most like likely, because of the large cavalry force, until Yusurf III made his speech.

“ The time has come, my people, for the revenge against the Spanish for their intolerable and unjustifiable act committed against my brother, and ultimately, our country.”

The crowd cheered in reaction to the king’s proclamation, but was abruptly silenced by the king.

“However, to be able to complete this task, and fulfill our destiny, we must change,” Yusurf III continued, drawing a sudden gasp form the crowd.

“From here on out, we shall begin to adapt Western ways, with the beginning of teaching both Greek and Arabic in our schools, and…”

Yusurf III did not have time to finish, by then, a large revolt had broke out among the peasants, with th only thing saving him was his cavalry, who quickly escorted him to his palace.

“How can they not understand.” Yusurf III was fuming over the crowds response.

“The peasants have it very hard, they do not handle change well and are very narrow-minded due to the restricting nature of our laws.” Aamir replied.

“That is very true, maybe they would handle our westernization better if they were a little bit less restricted.”

Yusurf III paced the room paced the room furiously for three minutes until he unexpectedly stopped.

“I have an idea, why don’t we allow the peasant to take Thursday off, you know to give them a break and hopefully, lessen their burden and ultimately causing their fears about this westernization thing to die down.”

“Wouldn’t that lower our production quotas with peasants taking the day off?”

“Yes, I believe it may, but, it will work out better for us in the long run.”

Actually, as it turned out, with information reaching the king within weeks, the slight drop in production actually helped the economy. With less money changing hands, and after being stored or sold off, the kingdom was not forced to mint as much money, lowering inflation. I found this quite intriguing as I began to make mental notes. But before then, Yusurf III saw me out of the corner of his eye and began to pick up a book….

Westernising so early is good! Well done...it gives you the max time possible to grab the lead of the tech race. :)

Ashantai- Thank you, Granada has great slides. If they werent so screwed, they might b the easiest nation to westernize with.

Garudamon11- Thank you

Enewald- They put more emphasis over lets say, indian teachings.

Sorry for the lack of updates, my schedule has gotten heavy latelly, but i promise to get at least one update per week.

Chapter 10: Reconquista, Remix

When the king approached me with the book, I thought that I was a gonner. I said my closing prayers and thanked the lord for the good times I have had. As Yusurf III got closer I closed my eyes, bracing for the deathly blow. However, instead of killing me as I thought he would, he slid the book under me and put a glass over me, trapping me inside. He then said to me:

“ I have been watching you for some time little spider. At first, I thought about squishing you, but then I decoded that you were much more interesting because of your intensiveness and whatnot. So now I will keep in that little habitat over there,” Yusurf III explained.

“Aamir, make sure you give the spider his fair share of insects and bugs in the morning and evening,” Yusurf III demanded.

The habitat was about the size of a shoebox and was surrounded on all sides by glass. The inside of my habitat was filled with leaves, sticks and roots. The box itself was very comfortable, not having to be on cold stone, but not being able to roam around the castle made me feel a little bit claustrophobic. However, within a week, I got used to being stuck inside my habitat. All was going smoothly and calmly until…

“My liege, may I please talk to you?” Jamal asked Yusurf III.

“Of course, my dear friend.” Yusurf III replied

“I have come here to resign, I have been offered a job as a general in the Moroccan Army.”

“I accept your resignation, but I am sad to see you go, best of luck.”

With Jamal gone, the king decided he needed a new head of the Military. He ordered Aamir to write an announcement announcing a hiring fair schedule in two months. The next two months were very busy with the king, for the time being, having to be the interim head of the Military.

“Next!” the king ordered for Aamir to bring the next subject. The past few subjects of the realm had been total failures, with none of them being able to think of a good idea. The next man that approached was slender, yet tall man. He wore nice clothes and had a nicely cut beard.

“What is your name?” Yusurf III asked the man who approached him.

“Khaliq, sir, I hear you are in dire need in a head of the military and I am just your man.”

“What makes you think that?” Yusurf III replied.

“I am the man that constructed the battlements that survived the famed siege if Gibraltar.”

“You are now at the service of me, Khaliq, and I appoint you as head of the Military.”

The next two months passed peacefully, mostly because Yusurf III could finally have a little time to relax now that he had a head of the Military. Khaliq had already began improving the battlements of Granada, tripling the grain store and building a turret for the ballistae. The realm was at general peace until Yusurf received that Aragon had declared war on Castille.

“What should we do, opportunities like this are not common, and if we wait to long, the greedy Aragonese King may annex the entire country.” a nameless advisor suggested.

“I agree, we should immediately strike, for if we wait any longer, the Aragonese will annex Castille and become too powerful.”

“I agree, send a declaration of war immediately, Aamir.”

Preparations of war were made immediately after the declaration was sent. The Iberian Army was divided in two and the Urbinese Army was ordered to march on one thousand troops guarding the city of Florence, who had honored Castile’s call to arms.

“My liege, the Florinese army has just surrendered after three harsh days of battle and the city garrison has surrendered.” Aamir reported excitedly.

“Good, pour us a celebratory glass of Champagne and give the spider extra rations.”

I enjoyed the extra rations very much. After they had finished drinking:

“Send a letter to the Florinese Duke informing him that he must relinquish control of his kingdom immediately.”

“Immediately (hiccup) sir.”

The war with Castille continued to be fought, with small skirmishes being fought throughout the country. The cities of Murcia, Mancha and Badajoz had fallen after the majority of Castile’s forces had been eliminated. The Aragonese king, in cooperation with Yusurf III had taken the northern Basque Territories in a separate peace deal with Castille. The final city to fall was the capital of Castille itself, Toledo.

“Bring the Castilian king here please Aamir.” Yusurf III demanded.

The Castilian king, in accord to the demands that Yusurf III presented, was brought to the table.

“Your empire has fallen and I give you two options, exile to the gold mines of Ifni, where you will suffer a long, agonizing, shameful death, or I could put you to the sword right now.”

“I would rather die, than watch you rule my lands.”

“As you wish.”

Yusurf III took out his bejeweled scimitar from his sheath and put it to his neck. With a loud yell, he brought the sword upon the King’s head, chopping it straight off.

Impressive! Very impressive indeed!

The storytelling has also gotten better too, I like the personal interactions. Well done! :)

If Christian Europe doesn't wake up soon they're going to find themselves with a problem on their hands. That's five more territories, plus you still have that core on Rome.

Do you have a tech lead now? I know in 4.1b the Muslim group starts at 6 in all techs, so by westernising early you get the best of both worlds.

I've been following, and enjoying, this since near the beginning and thought it was about time I commented. Fantastic work! You've inspired me to play as Granada when I inevitably go back to EU3.

I hope that the execution of the King of Castille doesn't provoke a crusade against you. Are you going to form Spain? I can't remember if you need to be christian to do it. It would be great to steal Spain's colonial destiny.
