((And now, even some of the most staunch Liberales, like myself, are upset at his leadership. Of course, it's also about the way the war was mishandled.

So Andonie, whether or not he deserved it, alienated the Liberales and Conservadors, and infuriated the Nationales, and he was never popular with the Comunistas and Socialistas. Hence his 'most unpopular president' moniker.))

I believe Tamzarian and Subercasseaux would both be superb leaders, and I hope that with either of them, we can begin making amends with the Nationales. However, I would not be opposed to a Republicano or even a Nationale president, so long as they support a free market, and won't go gallivanting about the Amazon.

Over my dead body, Santa Rosa. I'd rather burn down La Moneda than make friends with Liberales, especially after what they did to us.

For too long the liberale elite have kept themselves in power, manipulating the political system and bending it in ways it was never meant to be bent to keep themselves in power. For too long, they've made small concessions that don't mean anything in order to remain the hegemons of Chile. For too long they have cast aside the common man in favor of big business and titans of industry. The Chilean character has been stained by the liberale dictatorship that has kept itself in power for nearly a solid 44 years, with some minor breaks. Badajoz, both Zepedas, Santa Rosa, and Andonie have built themselves an almost impenetrable fortress.

Well, I say, it is time the common man stood up for himself! People of Chile, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains! Cast off the political machine the liberales have constructed, destroy their fortress and take back our nation and give it back to the Chileans, not to the liberales who would sell us out for a German mark or an American dollar! We must show them that we have had ENOUGH!

((I'm really getting into this proto-fascist thing...))

You are setting the socialist movement decades back by doing this Comrade Gogolow for the love of all that is good I beg you not to do this.

No, you are. You are shamelessely attempting to bribe people to vote for you. I am disgusted, and so is everyone else. If you think anyone's going to let you an inch away from power ever again, engange the thing at the top of your head.

((They voted for a coalition with us. The only one of their members who didn't was Dyranum, and he convinced the rest of them to vote for the Liberales or abstain instead of voting for the coalition they voted for. We didn't force them into anything. That's not possible. They voted for coalition, we did too, voila, coalition. Dyranum pitched a fit, so they all voted for Andonie or abstained in the election.))

((We abstained (no one voted Andonie, though I voted Nacional before the Grand Coalition) because someone forgot to tell Tamizuzki the meaning of the word coalition. Namely that it was meant to be an FNT and Communista platform, not just Communista.))

((Yeah the only reason this is happening is that Andonie made Gogolow a minister, normally I don't let myself get mad at a game but I am seriously pissed, we were this close to finallly winning))

((As above, blame Tamizuzki if you want a scapegoat.))

A square in Santiago was filled with Nacionales supporters, many of them waving the flag of Union Popular. Colonel Weissmüller stood up on a footstool to speak to his supporters:

"Fellow Chileans, we live in dangerous times. The Germanistas have stolen the government and are now openly inviting the stinking socialists to enter their Conspiracy of Evil. They plan to continue to destroy Chile in ways much more malign than they have done before, undoubtedly planning to continue weakening our armed forces and knowingly wage wars in a cowardly way so many more of our brave soldiers die instead of tasting glory. Andonie is the worst of them, too many times has he betrayed our nation, from hiding German from the authorities to breaking all promises he has ever made. He's a true Judas Iscariot who gladly betrays his nation for his own benefits. My grandfather always called him a coward, and the least dangerous of the failure emperor's enemies. How wrong he was, but he was wrong about many things. He couldn't understand that cowards are the most dangerous enemies you can have, since they hide and strike when you least expect. So treacherous and evil are they. But if I become president I will bring him to justice, the same way I brought the failure emperor to justice. In my Chile there will be no place for treachery, backstabbing and cowardism. Instead we will look forward to a Golden Era when Chile will lead the Righteous People of the World in the final battle against Liberalism, Socialism and Communism. I will...."

BANG!!!

With these words Colonel Weissmüller fell from the stool. A bullet had penetrates his throat. A man had been able to get through the crowd to the front and shot him point blank.
" Long Live Andonie, Zepeda and Simon Germa..." he screamed before he fell to the mercy of the angry crowd of Weissmüller supporters.

" Long Live Andonie, Zepeda and Simon Germa..."

((But not Santa Rosa! Because out of the presidents, he's been the most sane (excluding Romano) and popular... :p))

The assassination of Weismueller is yet another example of the increasingly unstable nature of Chilean politics. Weismueller and I may have disagreed on most issues, but I call for President Andonie, as well as the candidates, to condemn this brutal action against another human being. Whatever crimes he had committed, we cannot bow down to radicalism or to vigilantism!

The breakdown of the Union Socialista and la Grande Coalition is another example; in the face of our Pyrrhic victory in Argentina, an unpopular president, divided politics, I have only this to say...

We must have stability, we must have moderation, and we must have leadership!

((you are desperate for santa rosa to be the most liked aren't ya :) and andonie is sane, just not forgiving of deceits against him ))

I condem this act of violence against Colonel Weismuller. The assassin may have used my name but I can assure you he had no connection to myself or any other sane Liberal. I will not greive for the man but wish his family the best in these trying times.

Presidente Andonie

As disturbed as I am by the recent violence in Santiago, I am more concerned by the repercussions of this disunity on our national state.

It appears to me that this election has excelled any other in terms of rhetoric, confrontation and partisan bickering. I do not know the cause of this, but I am fully aware of the consequences. I fear that our perceived weakness may entice our neighbours to act against us. Perhaps Argentina herself might seek to exploit our instability to advance her goals, just as we exploited hers. The most vulnerable region in Chile is not Santiago, but the border provinces.

Therefore, I request permission to deploy the Support Army to the eastern Chilean border to maintain order in our recently reclaimed territories.

Eduardo Emilio Romano, passed away tonight due to heart failure. Burial will commence tomorrow, were his family, political allies, his followers and including several old aristocratic friends from Spain will attend his funeral. During his entire political career he has been in every administration.

I mourn the loss if this great man who has been such a central figure in our country for 50 years. I have authorized the construction of a statue in the central plaza to commemorate this great man. As this leaves the treasury dept empty, in accordance with the constitution I shall assume control of that portfolio. As a former treasury minister I can assure u it will be in good hands.

Presidente Andonie

an excerpt from Concerning the Generations by Basilio Bautista

"From the ashes of death a new generation takes up the mantle of leadership for our glorious nation. The old guard mustn't be forgotten, but, more importantly, Chile's young leftists like myself must fill this political vacuum so as to provide Chile with the peace and stability it deserves."

((you are desperate for santa rosa to be the most liked aren't ya :)

((Just a wee bit :D))

I am greatly saddened by the loss of my old friend. Senor Romano was a true champion of Chile, and our nation will mourn the loss of such a great man.

It seems that I am now the last of that old guard, that generation that has lead Chile for such a long time ((Badajoz, Romano, and myself are all like five years apart or something)), and my days are certainly numbered. As Senor Bautista has already stated,do not forget our works, and our greatest accomplishments, and our darkest mistakes. Take to heart our actions and reasons, and use our record to better the lives of all Chileans, and all humanity!

((am surprised there was not more said about Andonie vetoing your bills))

Emilio Romano is a great man among the ages. I greatly mourn his death, and he will be sadly missed by all Chileans.

With Romano dead, that leaves only one last person of the Old Guard left. (I think).

It is a shame to see such a great man pass. Romano was the first of us to consider bridging the dissolute opinions of the Liberales and Conservadores back in 1835, and he was instrumental in providing political cohesion.

Statement from Union Popular:

"The murder of the Great Philosopher Weissmüller will be avenged. Holy Vengeance will fall over the false government for their shameless acts of murder. Andonie will face justice for his crimes. That is all."
