One more thing from me; a potential De Jure Kingdom setup?
potentialkingdoms_by_amcalmaron-db4ce32.png

A couple of these names are placeholders, mind. With a setup like this, the modern regions would be the De Jure Empires; the North, the Vale, the Riverlands, etc...
Hopefully this'll be of some use to you guys!

Hehe, not a problem! Ooh, and thanks for the offer! Hmm...I might not be able to guarantee I'll be free all the time (work schedules and all), but I'd be happy to help out where I can!

On that note, here's another map for you!

-snip-

Our team and how we work is very informal, so even if all you want to do is pop a map and brainstorm & contribute some ideas on this thread like you have been doing, that is more than enough, and greatly appreciated! :)

Will go through and see what we can do with some of our borders. We've just started working on titular Kingdoms, so your mock-ups are sweeet.

Oh, awesome! Well, then I shall continue to do just that where I can! Oh, and when I'm next available I'll make a list of potential De Jure Kingdoms and precedent for them in the histories...

Kingdom of Winterfell and kingdom of White Harbour would make more sense to me than "Winter" and "White Knife" ...

Oh, I was basing that off the title the early Stark Kings used of "Kings of Winter" alongside King of the North...plus, as a name not tied to a specific location, it'd allow locations within the territory like Castle Cerwyn to form it without needing to hold Winterfell. As for White Knife, Alpharius001 got it right; White Harbour didn't exist back then (it was the Wolf's Den instead)...but White Knife could have some precedent given that in the modern age the Manderlys have the title of "Warden of the White Knife"?

If you are basing this before Aegon the Conqueror please remove the "Crownlander" culture since that was a term used for people who lived in the Crownlands[the area around Kings Landing] and since there is no Aegon there should be no Crownlanders.

You could just name it the Blackwater kingdom and have it a culture of a nearby kingdoms,Dusklanders.

We already made that change, it was there to act as a placeholder. It is now the Kingdom of the Blackwater, and the culture was renamed to Blackwaterman.

How about the "Kingdom of Stone" for Skagos? Since Skagos means stone and it lacks a dejure kingdom.

We've gone with the Kingdom of Stone (unless anyone objects) - thanks for the suggestion! :)

@Almaron
I've gone and added just about every suggested de jure Kingdom. The map is a bit of a mess at the moment, so not much to show (we're going to have to remake a lot of duchies due to province movements, Kingdom balance and what-not), but I've got to say; it looks all great.

We've added a number of extra Kingdoms here and there, such as Runestone and the Lowlands in the Vale (+ Sisters, Fingers & Mountains and Moon).
- In the Riverlands we've split the trident into the Rivers and Hills & the Fork.
- Dorne has been split up even further, adding Hellholt, the Scourge, Boneway and Sunspear (probably not a final name, not sure if Sunspear would be applicable at this point, given that it hasn't been built) on top of your three.
- Fair Isle was given a Kingdom in the Westerlands (with Kayce under it).

Hopefully should get it in a reasonable state tomorrow, so you can hammer at it with any suggestions you have in mind - after all, everything is subject to change at this point!

Awesome! Hehe, and glad to have been of service! Say, random thought, but would it be a good idea to have a few Kingdoms that are only formable by decision, much like the Empire of India? For instance, say you're playing as the Kingdom of Sunspear, and you manage to gain all the other titles along the Greenblood; could there be a decision that replaces all those Kingdoms with the Kingdom of the Greenblood? That could be a way of breaking up larger regions into smaller ones without needing to make the regions themselves Empire-tier in order to keep them in game...

Well, in any case, I'll wait until that update is sorted and then I'll have a proper look! :D

I'm liking this idea, since it gives kingdoms that are -just- out of the time line a chance to be created, as well as giving players a goal to orient themselves to which will generally push them towards reasonable developments in terms of state building.

Thanks! Hopefully I'll be getting my copy of the World of Ice and Fire back today (in a case of perfect timing, I lent it to someone shortly before hearing about this mod...), so once I've got it back I'll scour it for titles and areas where there'd be justification for a state. Ooh, on that note, just thought of another potential area that could have a "formable by decision" Kingdom...the Trident! It could be divided up into Kingdoms of the Green Fork (consisting of the eastern side of the river, since the only crossings are at the Twins and the Ruby Ford, plus it would allow a powerful High King of the Vale to gobble up the other side of the mountains neatly), Blue Fork (centered on Oldstones and Seagard, and thus being the first thing that the Ironmen would target) and Red Fork (including House Blackwood and House Bracken, so they can fight for the title), with someone who holds all three titles being given the option to proclaim the Kingdom of the Rivers/Trident (I'd leave the Hills bit off; I'm pretty sure it actually refers to the border with the Westerlands, or potentially even the eastern bit of the Westerlands)?

Just thought I'd let everyone know. We are currently working on a massive update that involves the Petty Kingdoms, cultures, religions, and lots of cahracters.

Ooh, awesome! :D

Say, I'm not sure if this'll be any help or not, but I overlaid the modern Westeros borders onto a terrain map of Westeros I found on Google, and looking at it, I'm thinking it could be a useful way of establishing some of the De Jure Kingdom borders. The file's a bit big, so I'll post the link instead; http://sta.sh/015c8z755gua

Anyway, as an example, have a look at the Westerlands. In the World of Ice and Fire book, there's a line about how the hills between the Westerlands and Riverlands were contested with the River Kings for some time, and thus it's likely that these hills are the ones referred to in the old title of "King of the Rivers and Hills." Now, on the map, not only are there a series of hills spreading out from the Westerlands into the Riverlands and Reach, but tributaries of the Trident River (the Tumblestone and Red Fork) both extend significantly into modern Westerland territory. With that in mind, I think we could draw a border for a "Kingdom of the Hills" that in this time, is a de jure part of the High Kingdom (Empire) of the Riverlands, but which can flip to being part of the Westerlands via event, and which includes something like the bulk of the Tumblestone River, the Golden Tooth, Hornvale, the hilly area as far as the Goldroad, and potentially even Pinkmaiden and Stoney Sept!

I mean, yeah, I've proposed this Kingdom already, but still; I think this map could help us codify borders and perhaps even find new areas to turn into Kingdoms! Take the Neck, for instance; this map shows the marshy lands extending well into the Riverlands! And look at Dorne and where it borders the Reach; the Torrentine River, surrounded by the Red Mountains, extends across both territories and shows that Horn Hill could potentially march downstream to attack Blackmont, High Hermitage and Starfall...so wouldn't this be a nice spot to add a "Kingdom of the Torrentine"? That was a title used by the rulers of Starfall and High Hermitage prior to Nymeria's invasion...and, as previously noted, making this area accessible doesn't actually negate what has been said about the Prince's Pass and the Boneway; both are said to be the MAIN routes into Dorne, and with this terrain, it's clear to see why the Torrentine area isn't used as an invasion route; after getting past Starfall, an invading army would have to either march over or around the nearby mountains, and through desert to get anywhere, while the other routes have rivers along the way.

Whoops, went on a bit longer than I meant to...still, hopefully this proves useful?

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Are you guys using the portraits use in the AGOT mod, or just vanilla?

We won't be using any assets from the AGOT mod (although that may change in the future if we want to ask for permission and they are willing to grant, but I'd prefer us to go about doing as much as we can, as we have so far, our own way), so for the time being we will be using Vanilla portraits.

Ideally, I'd like for our mod to support all DLC portraits with customisation where needed (i.e. different hair and eye colours), which is something I feel to be well within my capabilities.
