Ab urbe condita, which is Latin for "From the founding of the city" (Rome). Rome's founding is in 753 BCE.
 
From the manual:

AVC actually means AUC, which is a Roman term meaning "Years since the Founding", it shows as AVC because that's how the Romans wrote their U's. This date system is used so you don't have to count backward to know what years are coming up, as you would have to with the BC/BCE system.
