Having uninstalled Vicky 2 on my desktop after it started CTD'ing while trying to start a new game, while trying to reinstall I have encountered several problems. Trying to re-download and then install via Gamersgate, I encountered this error message:
The Victoria 2 folder (never mind the settings.txt) doesn't exist anymore, however, when investigating before I uninstalled I discovered that the text had been replaced by the first few lines of the patch 1.2 readme - impossible, as I had not deliberately or accidentally done such modifying.
Then I tried using Setup.exe in the GamersGate temporary files, receiving the error message:
Investigating, I discovered that the said DLL file was there. Trying to remove the 'read-only' designation didn't seem to affect anything, and neither did messing with the security settings.
Luckily, as far as I know Victoria 2 on my laptop is unaffected, but I don't commonly use that machine and want to re-install it on my desktop, which seems impossible to me.
I use Patch 1.2, and my specifics are good enough to play the game reasonably fast.
Can anybody help?
CRC Error: The File C:\Program Files (x86)\Paradox Interactive\Victoria 2\Settings.txt doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.
