Greetings, forum members,

Yes, it is me again the man who hung around on the forums years ago, made various AARs in the CK2 AAR forums, many of which never saw completion and then suffered burnout in 2016 and left AAR writing behind with a brief but fleeting return 2 years ago which failed. For those of you who are unaware, this is a second attempt at my extremely short-lived Everlasting Realm AAR with a Dawi race inspired by Warhammer fantasy.

But now things have changed, for one with the release of Overlord comes the subterranean origin meaning I can play my Dawi the way they were originally intended, and second, I do want to return to AAR writing in a limited capacity. With that I mind don’t expect chapter updates more then once a week, from June I have more hours at work and I intend to avoid burnout by releasing the chapters in a slow methodical manner.

With the introductory stuff out of the way it is time to talk about settings, DLC and mods.

Game Settings:

This will be a lightly modded playthrough of Stellaris, with mostly QOL mods as well as a traditions overhaul.

Finally, I don’t consider myself a Stellaris expect by an means, (I have never actually finished a game). So do feel free to provide constructive advice and wisdom if you wish it. Constructive criticism is also appreciated.

Prologue: The Observer and the Surveyor
Prologue: The Observer and the Surveyor:

Year 2500: the city of Dogrimor on the planet Karak

Location: a tavern

Two Dawi are sitting in the corner of a tavern in the great capital city of the Dawi Dogrimor, in truth these men where not Dawi, but instead powerful divine beings who kept watch over the universe and recorded what has occurred. One was called the Overseer and the other the Surveyor.

Overseer: what a fascinating race these Dawi are, to think 500 years ago they ruled over a single planet and now control a vast intergalactic empire.

Surveyor: What truly fascinates me is the both how horrible and yet amazing this beer is, I cannot stop drinking it.

Overseer: Careful now, we don’t want a repeat of the time you got wasted and accidently set the Library of Alexandria on fire.

Surveyor: That was a complete accident…

Overseer: Yes, remind me didn’t you grab a torch wrap it in rags and throw it into the library?

Surveyor: People were looting! I simply wanted to get in on the action! I will admit I had far to much to drink that evening, that Greek wine was heavenly. Besides everyone thought Ceaser burnt down the library.

Overseer: That’s was history claims, but I know the truth.

Surveyor: You will never let that go, will you? it was thousands of years ago, I was young foolish and naïve.

Observer: Perhaps but then again you stated the Great Fire of London.

Surveyor: I thought you had forgotten that…

Overseer: I never will that bread was most excellent.

Surveyor: Why are we even here anyway Overseer? Its not for the company! I mean look there is a brawl starting over there over whose ancestor mined the most gold.

Observer: (Ducks as a chair goes flying over him and smashes into the wall as a all-out brawl starts in the rest of the tavern). I mean yes, they are a rather temperamental folk, but their history is truly fascinating. To that end our boss wants you to compile a chronicle of this race from the year 2200 to the current year.

Surveyor: Why does Steve want me to do this? Why can’t you do it?

Overseer: Because I just spent the last six months writing a chronicle of human history, dear lord those fellows are a strange and odd bunch, also you broke my favorite mug so I persuaded Steve that you could do a better job.

Surveyor: That was a accident! I did not intend to drop it during the Siege of Jerusalem during the First Crusade!

Overseer: Well you did, and I still have not forgiven you, it had some glorious Japanese mountains on it that mug. Off you go now, I will be keeping track of your progress.

Surveyor: WAIT!

Observer: (Snaps his fingers and Surveyor disappears in a flash of light leaving the Overseer to finish his beer as the brawl consumes the tavern.)

Well here is the prologue, the whole AAR will not be written in this style, these characters will be used in the state of the universe overview chapters. The rest of the AAR will be written in more of a history textbook format with pictures. Please do leave some feedback it is greatly appreciated.

I actually haven't, I have genuinely not looked at the forums regularly for the past several years. I was going to name one of the celestial beings, The Watcher but I thought it would be too on the nose.

An Introduction to the Dawi Race:
An Introduction to the Dawi Race:

LwQhzaG.png

Dawi Fundamentals

The Dawi to put it bluntly are a short race: both genders stand between three and four feet tall. To compensate for their stoutness, Dawi have strong arms, broad shoulders and powerful legs. All of this in turn makes them a durable and strong race with both men and women being extremely fierce and capable warriors on the battlefield. Most male Dawi grow large beards to differentiate them from ‘Dawi’ females, as without beards it is difficult to differentiate between the two genders. This is turn gave rise to the belief among aliens that Dawi women do not exist, and Dawi simply spring from holes in the ground.

Dawi are well accustomed to mining and tunnelling, as they make their homes inside the mountains of their home world or underground rather than on the surface. As the surface of their home world Karak is incredibly harsh and unforgiving. As such they do not generally travel on the surface unless absolutely necessary, preferring their underground or mountainous homes. Mining is the main source of income for the ‘Dawi’, and it has made them a hardworking and diligent people eager for wealth.

The Dawi are also incredibly skilled engineers, having created many ingenious devices over the course of their long and storied history. Much of these inventions have been weapons of war, such as Thunders Guns’ firearms which use an explosive powder to prime and fire bullets into enemy formations: or the infamous ‘Bolt Cannon’; a large ungainly device which hurls huge bolts into gates, and other such structures, in order to pull them down

However, to say that the Dawi only craft of weapons of war would be crude: engineers played a key role in the creation of the ‘Deepway,’ the roads that connect all of Karak to one another underground. It is entirely possibly to cross from one side from the planet to the other without ever seeing the sky. This incredible feat of engineering was accomplished over the course of many generations. Even in the present day, it being adapted for modern Dawi technology and it is rigorously maintained by the ‘Deepguard’ Engineers with years of experience.

However, the Dawi, like all races, are not perfect; compared to many other races in the galaxy their ability to breed is slowed, owing to the hardiness of their own forms and the harsh homeworld on which they reside.

Society and Culture

The Dawi are ruled by a High King or a High Queen. Each ruler is the head of their respective clan, when they die the firstborn male or female heir takes their place as clan leader. However, the ‘High Kingship’ is not hereditary and can be ruled by any of the clans.

Each Dawi is the member of a clan, the oldest clans once ruled their own kingdoms before the Dawi were unified under one ruler. Relations between each clan vary, most tolerate or are friendly with one another while others have feuds that stretch back centuries. As of 2200 the four clans with the most influence are:

Clan Gyrmir:

Clan Gymir is the current clan that hold the High Kingship and has done so for several generations. They are the clan that spearhead scientific advancement and the expansion of knowledge. Great technological advancements have been made under their rule, including the invention of robots to aid in mining and the generating of energy. They regularly find themselves butting heads with the more traditional clans, who disfavour the focus on technology and robotics.

Clan Warzul:

Members of the Warzul Clan make up the majority of the military forces. While Clan Warzul was once filled with Dawi who were sceptical of Clan Gyrmir, they have become more accepting of them after the clan went to great efforts to refine and improve Dawi weapon and armour technology. Marital alliances have further strengthened the bond between the two clans and they are steadfast allies with one another.

Clan Bhulfzar:

Clan Bhulfzar are comprised predominantly of merchants, craftsmen and artisans; they also have the most skilled and competent miners among the Dawi. They maintain good relations with the various clans, though it is well known that they are the greediest clan with a lust for gold and other forms of wealth. Regardless, they serve as the backbone of the Dawi economy.

Clan Norgrim

Clan Norgrim are comprised of religious isolationists and staunch traditionalists who despise Clan Gyrmir’s technocratic leadership. They used to be the most pre eminent Dawi Clan, but gradually fell from favor, when Clan Gyrmir took the High Kingship. They alliances with a few of the lesser clans, but these themselves are tenuous owing to their fanatical devotion to tradition as well as their religious beliefs.

While religion used to play an important role in the earlier history of the Dawi Empire, in the present day the Dawi faith is hardly practiced with the expectation of Clan Norgrim. The High King is indifferent to religious practice, knowing that the vast majority of his people are agnostic.

Government

The current Dawi Government is based upon the fundamental idea of scientific advancement; indeed, nothing is more important than scientific knowledge and technological advancement. The job of the High King is to guide the ship of state with his wisdom and knowledge and uphold technocratic principles. As such scientists are extremely well respected and well-funded, with extremely far-reaching privileges within society. While the Dawi are extremely materialistic, they also cling to the ideas of warfare and militarism a reflection of their violent and unruly past, where infighting among the various kingdoms was a frequent occurrence.

History

The history of the Dawi, despite their present technological advancement is not complete. Various wars over the course of their history has resulted in the loss of knowledge and a fragmented and difficult to decipher history. At present Clan Gyrmir scholars have made rough approximation of the four key periods in Dawi history.

The Period of War: (1000-1400)

This period is marked by regular conflict following the death of the first ‘High King’ Dorgrim who unified the disparate Dawi under a single ruler. Dorgrim’s daughter Valia proved incapable of ruling with any competence, resulting in the Dawi lords breaking away to form their kingdoms. Centuries of strife and conflict followed.

The Age of Rebirth: (1400-1700)

A period of peace between the Dawi kingdoms as well as a time of great cultural and artistic change, it was during this time that many grand architectural works were created. The Deepway also began construction during this time. Many Dawi during this period crafted romanticised artworks or literature, of the prior age, seeing it as a time of barbarity and incivility.

The Steam Revolution: (1700-2000)

This age is marked by considerable technological advancement, with the creation of extreme industrialisation methods and the refinement/improvement of many old technologies. During this time, considerable military advancements were made leading to a number of violent conflicts, with great loss of life as a result.

The Modern Age: (2000-2200)

The ‘Modern Age’ is marked by the ascension of Clan Gyrmir who unify the Dawi under a ‘High King’ for the first time, since Dorgrim, in the year 2000. The technocratic principles espoused earlier are established, leading to extreme scientific advancement. Space flight would be achieved in the 2150’s, this would lead to a limited extraction of resources in the Orzar system; though a hyperdrive capable of travelling to other systems would not be developed until 2200.

Well Overlord is now out, so I figured I would release the race introduction. I have not started the campaign yet, as I am still sorting out races and what settings to use, but for now enjoy this introduction of the Dawi.

For the Everlasting Realm!

Great minds think alike, then. :D

Ah, dwarves! These are dwarves, right?

This looks interesting... Subbed!

Yes I can confirm they are Dwarfs, just with elements taken from various representations of the race in fantasy over the years.

A Quick Update:
Hi Guys,

Just a quick update:

1. Game settings are now in the introductory post along with some small additions to the modlist.

2. Philosopher King has been replaced as a civic with masterful crafters as I thought that better fit the race I was going with.

3. This week has gotten away from me, but I intend to start the first play session tomorrow, but please do not expect a chapter within the next couple of days, as I am trying to avoid being burned out with writing and general work life balance.

Thanks,
