D. António I consolidate the Kingdom with many forts (much because the fear of a France Invasion), and expanded his territory with the conquer 8 Maya Provinces.
Afonso VII pass most of is time, in dealing with Bureaucracy. Now went he inherited the Kingdom and a War, it was not what he desire.

The first battle that occurs was a disaster. Crossing the river at Cadiz, with no leader, summed up in a major defeat.
Something happen, because Portuguese troops outnumber were winning… but then, they were shattered, 10.000 men, all dead.

In Jamaica 3 sieges were conquered and again, a naval victory with the capture of 1 caravel.
In Belize, catholic faith is taught.
No deal with France is a good deal and for that, France embargo was issue by the King.

The AP has losing the war (-12%) despite winning in the Colonies.

One Saint performed a miracle bringing so much stability to the Kingdom.

In Andalucia, the Portuguese 16.000 men were winning against 3.000 Britons, but Castile reinforcement of 20.000 turn the tide from victory to defeat, followed by a second defeat in Lisbon, and the final blow in Gibraltar.

After 4 years and 1 month of War, 2 victories, 6 defeats, 6 naval victories and 1 defeat, the war come to an end, with Venice ceding Istria to Austria.

Ireland proposes a Royal Marriage, followed by an alliance. The King accepted the Royal Marriage but not the alliance. He did not want to compromise against a possible war against England.

Rebels in México continue to appear. This time, Zapotec Nationalists. They were won.

Again, this time in the year 1613, the Viceroys were doing their work proper, delivering +20% in Global tariffs.

After 2 years and 10 month, peace arrived at México.

To War or not to War

On May of 1618, Aragon asks again for Portugal help against Castille, their colonies, Brittany, Austria and Mali.
This time they fight for Granada.
The King had to decide if Portugal wanted to start another war, with the same countries for an ally (attacking war).

The King that ended the last war decided that he wouldn’t start another.

Still, Aragon trust Portugal, and the King supported Aragon, by other means. Mali and Castille asked for military access that was denied but conceded to Aragon.

One month later, the King got sick, and between delegating power to the nobles (production efficiency +5%), he delegate to the provinces (trade efficiency +5%).

India’s War

In 1626 the King decided to go to War against Delhi to show superiority.
Some say that it was to balance the budget with taxes war.
Portugual were losing -10,67 a month.
With the new (War) taxes, Portugal was still losing money, but now, only -1,91 ducats.

In Iberia, Muscovy army was sieging all continental Aragon.
Aragon tried early to conquer Lucania in Italy peninsula, and Muscovy, Naples and others, defend them.

The SAC controls 39,5% of the trade.

D. Afonso VII offers an alliance to Castille that was accepted.
It was sealed with a royal wedding.
4 new provinces were colonized in South America making the King that acquires more provinces in Portuguese history (18 against D. Sebastião 16).

In 1627, the King decided to legitimate a sun outside is marriage.
D. Pedro was named as an heir to the throne, (A0-D3-M2), and this unprepared child would be the future King.
At least it was D. Afonso VII hope, despite his weak claim, he had no more heirs.

In India, 44000 Indian soldiers defeated 23.000 Portuguese soldiers.
They had to cross the river and lost almost 16.000 against 9.152 Portuguese, but still, they won.

José Manuel da Costa, was not a good ruler, but we stayed with the Viceroy of Colombia (A2-D2-M2).

169 Ducats were loan because Portugal finances were a crap. The budget was still losing money and war in India was not helping with the causalities and replacements.
Two Portuguese sieges were lost and some start to doubt the Portuguese capability to win the War.
The Administrative Technology was not too behind (is now on level 17, behind 2%).
To try to help the economy, Economic Ideas is launch.

After almost 29 years as Viceroy of Rio de Prata, Alexandre Barreto died (A5-D6-M3).
Military Alexandre Queiróz was appointed.

The war England - France is going well for England.
The two provinces that France has in England are now entitled to owner

In Colombia, 4 provinces are in English hands.

After 23 years in Brazil government, Viceroy Estevão da Cunha that was almost there since Afonso VII came to power, died.
Henrique de Meneses, another military, was appointed.
Only Estevão was a Bureaucrat. In the last 4 years, the King appointed 3 militaries.

Intercolonial trade was approved, giving 1 mercantilism, but +10% of freedom desire to Colombia and 2 months later, they decided to form a Colonial Assembly.
The King, remove the trust on Viceroy José Manuel da Costa (A2-D2-M2).
He was, no doubt a balanced man, but little instructed in the King opinion.

In this trouble times, the Nobles demanded recompensation. The empty vaults made the King ignore them, brining instability (-2) to the Kingdom (1).
Never the less, colonization continues with two new provinces in Brazil and Mexico.

In May 1631, a slaughter happens in North Konkan (India).
2.000 man lost their lives against Delhi army, but 16 days later, 14.506 India’s died. It was a massacre, no mercy, no surrender; all were put down to die.

But in December, the naval battle of Coast of Gujarat, made the Portuguese lost 3 Heavy Ships and 18 transporters.

In January 1632, João de Castro, viceroy of Mexico, appointed 6 years before by Afonso VII died, assassinated. Teodósio de Carvalho, another Military, was appointed in his place.

In May, another slaughter happens, this time, the Portuguese killed 8.000 Indians.
This was a war of revenge and blood.

Economic ideas advance, giving more 10% in taxes and making Portugal finally not losing any money.

After 8 years of War (1634), Portugal paid the loan of 169 ducats and Persia decided to ask for a white peace that is gladly accepted.

In September 1634, Gold was found in Brazil. This gold rush brought to Portugal 400 ducats, balancing the Portuguese vaults.

After 8 years and 11 months of war, peace finally arrives.
It cost money and manpower of the Kingdom was almost null.
It brought 50% of their trade power, Surat province and 88 ducats.
With the exception of the Castilian Reconquest of Granada war that Portugal just fought one battle, this 8 years, were the biggest war in time and deaths (127.000 total, 27.000 Portuguese).
 
From one war to another

With the gold rush, the government employed Kateng Makangal’, an Indian Army Organizator (+2) providing more land force limit (+10%).

Portugal is now a mix culture of Portugueses, Castilians, Catalans, Galicians, Andalusias and Malteses.

More 10 Galleons and 16 Brigs were built to secure naval supremacies.

Post office and Naval arsenal were developed reaching diplomacy 16 (still behind by 6%).

Alexandre, Viceroy of Rio de Prata died. The King replaces him with another military.

In middle of 1636, the Kingdom had 0 ducats and losing 0,08 ducats per month.
To fight that, taxes of 2,5% were raised in Portuguese Mexico.

In that same year, England declared war on Inca and embargo France, France embargo Portugal and Portugal didn’t embargo any one.

Argentine, an English colony that was facing a massive revolt, asked for military access that was not given.

The King, anxious to take some English colonies, joins the War.

Castille formed a personal union with Naples but the war still continues.

The first confrontation was in Canarian Sea, between Portuguese, Naples and Austria fleet against England.

To deal with the English, 16.000 man, leading by Joaquim Coutinho board the Armada Real (20 Heavy ships, 21 Light ships and 20 Transports)
Between the arrival of the fleet, Lima and Mazca(Peru) and Mariquita (Colombia) were lost.

7 August of 1640 at the age of 58 years, after 37 years in power, the King died.
Twenty three new provinces he brought to the Kingdom and 11 new forts.

D. Afonso VII departed this world without leaving an heir with the right age to rule.

Henrique de Bragança, did not agree that Pedro was entitled to the Kingdom, and with 10.000 man revolt in South Africa.

The fast ship in Lisbon, track the Armada Real, and in Cape Verde they receive new orders to hunt and kill the rebels.
Henrique de Bragança was arrested send to Lisboa to be beheaded.

Meanwhile in Peru, the English were conquering land and more land.

With the finances of the Kingdom well, 156,96 ducats were spend in a new Statue of Pedro to legitimize his claim to the throne (+20 legitimacy and +20 prestige) making him half legitimate (+49).

The war was going well, many province were in Castille or Portuguese hands.

On June, 1641 the Armada Real meet the Royal Fleet. 17 Heavy ships, 5 Light ships and 7 Transports lost against only 5 English Heavy ships and 4 transporters.

Quantity Ideas advance, making 20% more men to the ranks.
José Manuel da Costa , Viceroy of Colombia, died. Diogo de Lemos a military replace him.

On February 1642 18.000 man perish at the English hands (they lost 1.139), the all army.
With this, the Kingdom prestige had to be restored.
The best way? To hired Guilherme Lemos de Brito for 389,36 ducats (27.81 ducats a month) but bringing more prestige per month (+1P +3AT).
Diplomatic Technologies also improves to level 17 (6% behind still).

A second defeat occurs in Peru, but this time, half the army escape leaving “only” 7.608 men dead.

Viceroy of Mexico died, and was replaced for a military (Gil de Queiróz).
 
D. Pedro II

D. Pedro II (0/3/2) becomes King in 17 October 1642.
Is brother, João (5/2/2) was more suitable to rule, but he was not the first…

Carlos de Marialva Pretenders rise in Gibraltar, 13 regiments.
With the two battles lost against England, not the best way to start. To help this, a month later, Austria makes peace with England.
The only good news was Economic Idea was implanted making buildings cost less 20%.

6 English Regiments invade north of Castille, Sieging already a province and heading for another.

4 Galleons and 2 Early Frigates start to be built in the Portugal mainland to supress the losses.

A delegation from England arrived the court in May 1643 with a white peace proposition.
The King declines and in the end of the year, meets them in the battlefield of Leon.
8.000 Portugueses against 4.000 English lost.

In April, 16.000 march in Asturias to fight the 4.000 English.
This time, the size of the army, remove any chance of winning for the English.
In Cantabria they finish them.
But even that victory comes at a price. The Pretenders siege and conquer Gibraltar.
In September, the King soldiers solve the problem.
Gibraltar that had Andalucia culture since it was capture to Granada Kingdom, but because of their support for Carlos de Marialva, the King decided to punish every one and enforce Portuguese culture on them.

D. Pedro orders that the time for Afonso Corte-Real, Viceroy of Rio de Prata to be terminated and replace by a Bureaucrat.

In the end of 1644, Aragon King asked Pedro II to help him in the Venetian Conquest of Cypus war.

The King honoured the alliance.

After 7 years of war, Castille made peace with England. They only receive 125 ducats.

To stop French expansion, two provinces start to be colonized.

43,92 ducats are spend in advisers, but even so, Portugal as a profit of 11,89 ducats.

In March 1647 Venice troops land in Galicia, and defeat a bigger Portuguese army.
31 Regiments against 19, and the Portuguese lose.
The army are demoralized.

5 Months later, the army try a second time.
Before losing (yes, because the army was losing again), the King decided to make peace paying 216 ducats.

184 ducats are taken loan to supress the debt.

In April 1648, D. Pedro brother, got sick, 162,55 ducats are spend to try to save him.
The 50% change… did not went well and he died.
More 187 ducats are taken loan.

With the Kingdom finances completed lost, finally good news.
The trade companies get a boom two times, bringing 209,70 ducats x2.
And before the ending of the year, national bank is implemented, reducing inflation by 0,1 a year.

Economic, D. Pedro was doing fine.

Rulers with any stat-value of 0 puts a damper on progress, esp. ideas and tech, in that field. It's always worse when you've been gearing towards, say, ADMIN, with a high Admin ruler then, suddenly... :p

Cosmopolitaine War

On 13 July 1650, the Viceroy Rui Teles de Meneses from the colony of Rio de Prata decided to declare war on Cosmopolitaine La Plata, the French colony on South America.
Now, one think that was taught to Portuguese Kings, was, never, but never, to go to war with France…. and a colony declaring war to a French colony is half way to declare war to there motherland.

Military technology was advance, but Portugal was still behind.
Long gone are the times that Portugal led in military technology.

Now, what most Kings like to do, to restore their prestige when is low, is to pick up a fight with a lesser technology nation.
So, in April 1651, the 3rd Inca Colony Conquest started, and it was considered a Crusade.

English Colombia and Argentine asked for military Access, and the King accepted.
An enemy from my enemy is my friend. England was at war with France.

A Tenaille (fort level 4) was built in Lisboa.

Two battles against Inca Rebels are won by Portuguese and Colonial Peru. Then, France intervenes in the war and Portugal must defend is colonies.
England asked for military access, and was accepted. They were at war with France because there colony, Argentine was at war with Cosmopolitaine La Plata.

With this new war, a new loan of 173 ducats were taken.
To help this problem of money, taxes raise 7,5% in Mexico colony, bringing 1,72 more ducats.
They did not like that, raising a colonial Assembly.
After 16 years Gabriel de Aveiro was replace in Brazil viceroy by a Diplomat.

The Portuguese were dealing with rebels, peasants between the war with France, winning two more battles.

Opposing Military Schools made stability decline but Fort defence and army morale increase 10%.

In Colombia one province was lost, but most of Cosmopolitaine Colombia is under Portuguese control.

Portugal decided to stop Import iron, losing mercantilism (-1) and gaining in England’s opinion (+40).

International Castille makes a trade embargo to Aragon. Portugal supports Dutch Patriots with 0,96 ducats against France.

After 5 victories in South America, the French take their first Portuguese Indian province, sieging three others.

From Portugal, a new heir was born. D. João (1/1/2).
172 ducats were loan.
Debt and loans are now more cheap to take, thanks to the advance in economic.

After the French took their third province in India, the King decided to negotiate peace.
Portugal ask for:
- 4 provinces of Cosmopolitaine La Plata to be ceded to Rio da Prata;
- 5 provinces of Cosmopolitaine Colombia to be ceded to Portugal;
- 1 provinces of Cosmopolitaine Peru to Portugal;
- 3 provinces from France to Portugal;
- France pays 441 ducats to Portugal.

For the first time, Portugal won the war against France imposing outrageous demands.

The France Peace brought money enough to pay all loans.
380,76 + 35,76 in interests and employ Damião de Sá (182,11 Ducats), a Master of Mind that would reduce inflation by 0,10 and +2AP.

Africa is mostly Portuguese and Castillian.

Cosmopolitaine Colombia Patriots lost a battle to the Portugueses forces in Colombia.
15 Portuguese regiments fight 9 of them, but Portugal lost almost 12 regiments against 5 of them. The King can’t understand why the army is going badly to worse.

Colonial Border Conflict between Colombia and Mexico occurs.
Diego de Lemos (3/3/6) and Gil de Queiróz (3/3/6) that were claiming territory from each other must be decided by the King. Something was spend (50DP) do calm booth.

In the end of that year, Gil de Queiróz died. Some say that he was poison, but no evidences were presented. Pedro de Sousa, a Military, was appointed to Colombia.
The new Viceroy had the same problem with Patriots, and the first battle won, but lost the second one month later.

With so much difficulty in winning battles, Military technology was advance in hope to help (Level 19, 4% behind).
Also a foreign drill instruction were hired (220,69 ducats) to prepare the army.

Teodósio Coutinho (3/4/6), the best Viceroy that was appointed to a colony was reappointed.

In the world, Castille declared war to Tunisia and England finally had Cornwall back in their hands. Tunisia asked for military access that was declined.

On August 1661 Portuguese Colombia declared war on English Colombia.
That is what happen when you put a military viceroy in charge.

17 Early Frigates were built.

After 10 years and 6 month in charge of Peru, Teodósio died.
He was the best viceroy ever ((4/5/6).
Henrique de Magalhães, (another military) replace him.
One month later, Caetano Carvalho, California viceroy also died after 15 years in power.
He is replace by Rogério Gonçalves, a Bureaucrat.
 
One War, Two Wars, Three Wars… who’s counting?

In November 1662, the Armada Real fleet with 27 vessels, at Aceh door’s declare war on this Malayan country.
After the troops 14 regiments deployed safely in Johor, a violent storm broke, completely devastating the 27 ships of the Armada Real fleet.

4 Galleons and 1 Merchantman ship were built to start replacing this major setback.
Economic ideas and Diplomatic technologies (level18) advance
Cosmopolitaine Colombia Patriots siege and conquer Essequibo a few days before the arrival of Portuguese regiments that kill them.

In 31 January 1664 Portugal became the leader of the War against England in Colombia.
10 Merchantman ship were constructed to replace the lost in the storm and to bring troops from Johor to Colombia if necessary.

Meanwhile some revolts spread.
