Strange Diplo - Scandinavia is HRE Emperor?

I am not sure if it is a AI bug or simply strange AAR but I kind of survived using something akin to integer overflow (It is so bad it owerflows to good ;o))

So the story is as follows:

- I was Denmark, easily founded Scandinavia
- I become protestant (Me and Brandenburg the only protestant)
- By inheriting Norway I inherited Orkney and Britain got Conquest CB on it.
- I am noob, invested in colonization had reasonably big navy and army but Britain had much bigger Navy, and Russia Much bigger army. (Both are my neighbour)
- I suck at diplomacy, had no ally and allowed Britain and Russia become allies and best buddies.

Bad luck. Right?

The following happened:
-My king was elected EMperor of HRE. (I did nothing, but 2 elector become protestant temporarily) - I was not even aspiring, did not care of HRE at all, had not a single territory. (I made Holstein Exit long time ago....)

-Britain attacked with Conquest CB.
- I am in a shitty situation: No maching navy, no maching army to the opponent, not friend or ally.

Then
1 month after war declaration (I killed Hansa-s army -another Brit ally, and waiting for a diplomat to return) I offer peace to Britain:
I offered: Revert Imperial Reform. 100% Warscore - They accept of course.
Since my king was old it died in 6 month.....

Not only I survived the war (and gained more time to prepare) without any loss,
I managed to weaken my south neighbor HRE at the same time.
I have absolutely no idea why was England happy to reducing reform in HRE instead of getting Orkney and other concessions from me.....

I had 1 playthrou so far and I noticed that both Denmark and Scotland (both protestant) were HRE emperors at some point in time, as I figured that can't happen, but it did. Would like to see if there is reason for this or is it only bug.

It's to do with religion, if an elector flips to protestant they'll only vote for other protestant countries.
If there are no eligible countries in the HRE itself they may vote for someone from outside.

A Japanese shogunate became emperor in one of my EU3 games, I suppose it's still possible in EU4.

Being elected to HRE Emperor: Due to religion I kind of get it. But why does Britain accept a peace on terms reducing imperial reform, if she started war with CB of conquest on Orkney.

"Orkney is mine but I love Sex Pistols and anarchy so increase it in HRE and let these wikings keep Orkney?"

For the same reason you were happy about reversing the reform - weakening the HRE. Sure, he want Orkney, but the opportunity to screw the Empire is too good to pass up.
