Methinks we both need to brush up on our ship recognition. All I know about that pic is that I think it is some sort of CL.

*words* haha :D

yeah i know nothing really, though its an area i'm fairly interested in as i like big beefy battleships shooting at each other. and obviously britain's power was built on her navy. its a pity there wasnt all that much naval action in ww2. obviously not from the sailors view but you know what i mean

i kinda guessed it was a CL from the guns and ww1 from the big funnels as you did, but didnt know apart from that. i used my special talents and sources to find out which ship it is though... you want to know?

Dear god YES! And please, tell me what sort of sources tehy are.

i feel very ashamed of myself. It was really bugging me as to what these various ships would do in the new aar other than just sail around, and i thought knowing what ship that one was might help. so... i cheated. fair play, it was genius though i say it myself, but i feel bad because i was supposed to guess :( the bad news is that i still don't have any idea what the purpose of that ship is.

its the USS Montana, a Tennessee Class Armoured Cruiser from WW1, later renamed the USS Missoula. She was taken out of the navy in 1930 and sold to some bloke. but i'm going to guess (as i cant cheat here) that instead of being sold to some bloke she was sold to whoever also holds the plans for this Nelson class ship also. Whoever it is is acquiring an interesting range of shipping.

Thank you.

I KNEW something was off. Too big for a Destroyer, but too small and too few Turrets for a genuine CL.

IIRC ACs were used for escort duty and to raid enemy shipping or respectively blockade duty in the Allied Navies.

wow you're right, that is the rodney. i didnt know it was that amazingly amazing. to be honest i know embarrasingly little about the navy in ww2 or any other era for that matter. i also cant deal in inches, so i dont really know how big those guns are still, but they look very small and theres hardly any of them so its a light cruiser from the great war i would guess. in fact i know exactly what ship it is, can i say?. but i dont have the faintest idea what it's doing in the scenario. i'm guessing instead of scrapping it they were sold on.

i'm sorta confused: is this new scenario also playing as the US? cos it would help with me trying to work out what the rodney or it's clone is up to. i didnt think you'd actually said who you're playing unless i missed something.

Actually I didn't say... Infact I'm going to wait a few posts into the story before I actually say who I'm playing though it may become clear on its own before then... I'm actually going to borrow a little from other AARs I enjoy or have enjoyed also... For Instance... Draco Rexus' consolidated British Empire is here but a bit earlier... That and a baby who originally died in Japan in 1878 is where our tale will begin to diverge from OTL.

As for the Rodney clone, The Admiralty is not amused by this 249 meter (817 foot) runt...

Armament:
9 - 406mm guns (3 x 3)
12 - 152mm guns (4 x 3)
12 - 100mm guns (6 x 2)
36 - 37mm AA guns (9 x 4)

As for the other.. Go ahead and say!

No need to be ashamed... and yes you are correct.. it's the Armored Cruiser Montana with 4x254 mm main guns and displacing 14,500 tons... Actually 4,500 tons heavier than the limits set for new build cruisers at Washington.

What I recently learned and was checking into was there was a plan in 1922 to do a MAJOR rebuild of the 8 remaining Pennsylvania and Tennessee class Armored Cruisers. Killed for monetary and of course political reasons... but since someone got permission to flood the S. American market with heavy ships... I think the USN can successfully convince congress to ante up for the rebuilds...

the mystery thickens... i cant wait for this to start now! and i'm not going to cheat again as its more fun guessing.
