Spawn Site Independent Armies

Hey all. How far will these armies go to harass you? From one side of a medium map to another? Just trying to figure out if I need to deal with them asap once discovered.

Also, Does discovering them trigger them to send armies at you?

Personally, I sometimes leaves some of them to level-up garrison, when I can afford an idle army, or when I need a sustainable source for evolving units to be befriended/seduced/converted. Necromantic Circles and Surnatural Pits can get pretty fast a nuisance, though (but nothing a good and costly garrison can't repel, anyways).
