Technical Problem

I have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch (incl. publisher):
Victoria Revolutions 2.01 downloaded from Gamer's Gate 5/20/2010.

OS & build/SP:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600)

Computer, CPU & speed:
HP Pavillion Elite, HPE-180t, Intel Core I7-920 2.67GHz

RAM:
12 GB

Free HDD space:
181 GB Free Space

Video (brand, model, driver, memory):
ATI Radeon HD 4850, atiumd64.dll,atidxx64.dll, atiumdag,

Sound (brand, model, driver):

DirectX Version:
DirectX 11

Other:
HP w2338h monitor

I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:

Ocassionally during the game the screen flashes/flickers. This occurs about once every few minutes, for only a fraction of a second.

Got the same problem on my windows 7 system. Tried all compatibility options, but the screen is flashing nearly every second.

I thought running in windowed mode would help. But I could not find the hex characters 0x0020A2D8 with the hex editor, even though I am running Victoria Revolutions 2.01.

I played around with a bunch of settings and everything. I don't know what I did, but now the screen flicker only happens very rarely, mostly during battle. It is now only a mild nuisance. Still would be nice to know if there's a fix or workaround.

This is almost always caused by some other program running in the background (frequently IM programs).

i´m using windows 7 with an nvidia gtx260, i just have some flickering/flashing at the start of the game during the loading screen but in the game it´s all fine.
i´m starting victoria revolutions in a windows xp sp3 compatibility mode, maybe that will help you.

other than that, jdrou´s tipp about the programs in the background sounds also good.

as a last idea i would try to install directX9 again as victoria won´t use the directx11 from win7.
