Cradle robber is very misleading trait. In game instead of going to an older person with young lover, it usually goes to a young female with an older lover. Princess Demetra's lover is probably at least 50 and likely to plus 60.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Two : Paperwork…

oOu29kJG_o.jpg

And Letters
It was early October, of the year 930 AD, and the Empress noticed something of her new Son-In-Law.

6NFmn80F_o.jpg

First, he was the wrong Religion. Second, his opinion of her was way too low. She needed to fix both those issues.

hnSazAq7_o.jpg

First she sent the Prince a small purse of coins. Then she sent him a request for him to convert to the True Faith of Buddhism.

JKjSNy12_o.jpg

As she waited for a reply to her request she received news of another member of her Dynasty being born. A baby girl named Basillike was born to Gerasimos Dysnomia and Mahidevi Ayudha. Their third daughter.

nKgdaZwj_o.jpg

Of course the parents asked the Empress to select the girl’s first stage of education. The Empress picked Faith for the girl to study. There was always room for a woman who understand Buddhism in detail.

DAtKCfoa_o.jpg

By mid October the Empress was told that her dog had grown big, fast, and had a good nose. And a strong bite. Or, at least, that’s what the dog handlers said.

dmS3K5Cf_o.jpg

Then she received a reply from Prince Girgen. He had embraced Buddhism and his opinion of his Liege was slightly higher. This was good news.

JxRvd7s8_o.jpg

Then news came from the Qamdo Revolt. The Doux Einarr of Qamdo had taken the Fortress of Nangqen. So he had won a siege which put him slightly ahead of Mew in the conflict between them.

xWaJbsig_o.jpg

Then the Empress received some annoying news. Seems one of her Nobles had visited Kalyani and caused some issues. His behavior had been unacceptable and the Great King of Karnata was demanding the Basilissa take some action.

As the man was her Son-In-Law she decided to take responsibility. And lost some face.

So the Empress continued to play the game of thrones and waited for some good news to cheer her up.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Three : Putting Out Fires

80gv7z7i_o.jpg

The chapter starts in mid November, of the year 930 AD, with some horrible news being delivered to the Basilissa.

h4So0OBk_o.jpg

Seems a fire broke out in a soup kitchen in the County of Haruppeswara. All evidence suggested a accident. Without the kitchen many of the poor might starve. The Empress decided to pay to have it repaired. Which was the cheapest option.

The coffers only held about 170 gold coins worth of wealth and she had to worry about her costs.

xzfAFKrL_o.jpg

Then a few days later the Basilissa heard some bad news. Seems Markia of the House Dysnomia was planning to kill her mother. They were not Rivasl and there was no evidence of inheritance being a issue. She just wanted to kill her mom.

“Tell her to stop,” commanded the Basilissa. “That kind of plotting will only backfire. What? How about my plots? I’m the Empress! I can plot all I want!”

HvbAR156_o.jpg

Then it was pointed out to the Empress that she could pass a Law making it illegal for the Vassals to attack each other. Sure, there were loopholes, but it might keep the conflicts down.

So she put up the Law for a “vote” and the Council passed it.

So we close this chapter with news that cheered up the Empress a tad

This seems like a pretty useful law, so long as you don’t need to divide and conquer within your own realm.

Lovely. Just make it illegal for Vassal's to fight each other, I'm sure that will stop them. It's not like they've needed any encouragement thus far. It's a nice try, but if this AAR has thought me anything it is that Vassals will always find a way to make each other's lives, and your life, miserable.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Four : More News From Outside

S8OTCf70_o.jpg

Mongol Dungeons

This chapter opens in early December, of the year 930 AD, with the Empress receiving news from the Mongol Empire.

J3VMIL7h_o.jpg

Seems during their never ending war with Europe they captured a few “enemies”. Rois of the House de Lower Dniepr, Ayasun of the House Tuzniqid, and Paykelti of the House Khumarid. The Empress was sure some of them had been captured before.

The Basilissa was starting to feel sorry for Khagan Cat. Half the captives seemed to be either his family or his Concubines.

BPkHMnIt_o.jpg

The Lords of Nyingchi had passed, no doubt with pressure from “The Tenacious”, the Levy Shifted Noble Obligations Law.

The Doux amused the Empress. It seems he had picked up dueling and was renowned for it. But also seemed to be bad at it. He was fat, scarred, wounded, had cracked ribs, and had killed nobody. It was said he seemed to be always covered in blood but it was most likely his own!

eEB9J0C2_o.jpg

By late December the Basilissa decided to send Duke Jau Wenshunu a letter containing some of her massive knowledge of statesmanship. Surely is would help him and make him feel closer to the Empress?

gASPXEms_o.jpg

The end of December happened to bring the Empress more news from the Mongol Empire. They had captured three more “enemies”. Three more “dangerous” women. Yartilek, Cicak of the House of Menumarotid, Sati of the House Menumarotid.

The Empress wondered why the Mongols hated women so much?

And so we end this chapter with the Empress pretty bored. In our next chapter we will put a twist on an old favorite. Instead of the Seven Top Military Powers in the Known World we will be listing the Seven Bottom Military Powers in the Known World!

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Five : The Seven Bottom Military Realms!

cCkEtlNv_o.jpg

“We Have An Army?!?!”
This chapter will be dealing with the Seven Bottom Military Realms of the Known World! In other words the worst military machines on the date of the 2nd of January in the year 931 AD.

KQrbNcsM_o.jpg

So, starting from the top of the list, or maybe we should say the bottom, the First Realm, Rama, was ruled by Chief Dragan of House Belojevic. A man with one eye, a one eyed wife, a Concubine with both eyes, four kids, and no military. He was also part of the Pagan Defensive Pact against the Aztec Empire. Which was a mixed bag. He could call for help if the Aztec attacked him. But what would he do if summoned to go to war? Hire sell swords?

h7ya0FEV_o.jpg

Amazingly the wife, the Chieftess Mikova, had a father who also had a eye missing. So I guess it was tradition? She was also scarred and missing a hand. A ex-pirate?

The Second Realm was Catid which was ruled by the Khagan Bulcan of the House Tabarid.

3JBjD3yU_o.jpg

He had just over a hundred warriors and was involved in the Pact war against the Mongol Empire. He had a Brawny wife, three Concubines, two kids, and all his limbs. Not much to say here. But he did have negative prestige. There was a story there somewhere but we will likely never know it.

g0JJgTRA_o.jpg

And while technically independent he was the Tributary State to the House Catid. Who are also in a war but not with the Mongols.

The Third Realm on the list was Vologda. The Ruler was Chief Papacyz of the House Papacyzid. He had more than three hundred warriors under his command.

v1UFSH8w_o.jpg

The Chief was Groomed, had a Groomed wife, and one child. He also in a Pact against the Mongols but not currently engaged in a conflict with them.

The Fourth Realm on the list was Pamir. Ruled by Shah Induk of House Korgon. He had over three hundred warriors under his command, one wife, and one kid.

8yEd99Zy_o.jpg

Once again while he was, technically independent, his Realm was also a Tributary State. And also part of a Pact against the Mongols but not involved in any conflicts with them. YET, he was imprisoned by the Mongol Empire. So he MIGHT have been fighting them in the past. Interestingly enough he was a Buddhist Ruler.

The Fifth Realm on the list was Songhay. Ruled by Mansa Cissi of House Cisse. Cisse was a VERY large Dynasty that made up most of the Nobles and Rulers in this region of Africa. So that was not surprising. BUT he was only 15 years old.

sMgnAF4H_o.jpg

While he had over three hundred warriors and a arranged marriage in the works I was shocked he had not been conquered by one of his many neighbors.

YeXyJi3U_o.jpg

And as many of those neighbors were his older siblings I fear he will not likely be in charge of his lands much longer. As many of them would have claims on his title.

Back in the north we find the Sixth Realm. Zanjan. A City ruled by a Mayor named Reza. Well, not just a City. A Republic. A rich Republic with over four hundred soldiers to protect it.

jWWco234_o.jpg

Weird but I guess it was bound to happen. The 60 year old Lowborn Sunni seemed pretty open minded and even nice. Too bad his skills were so bad and he was surrounded by warring states who would love to absorb his City if they could.

The Seventh, and last, Realm on the List of the Bottom Military Powers of the Known World is the Kingdom of Svipjod. The Realm that shows up in a lot of my Bonus Chapters! Ruled by King Sigtrygg “The Just” who commands JUST over a hundred warriors.

Ij6TcVEE_o.jpg

Remember the list takes into account how many he COULD command if he was better liked and so forth. In other words his vassals dislike him. Likely due to his complete lack of people skill. Being in debt didn’t help make the soldiers happy either.

How has he survived? Well, anyway, that’s the list. One of the weirdest lists I think I have ever written about. The bottom of the military barrel!

So this chapter ends and in the next chapter we will return back to Basilissa and India.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Six : Friendship Is Drinking

DtuMIua5_o.jpg

This chapter opens in early January, of the year 931 AD, with the Baislissa noticing on the Wall Map that Mew’s forces were getting closer.

ovogOhPn_o.jpg

A thousand troops were marching northwards to join the siege. Once together they would outnumber their enemies.

While at the moment the Doux of Qamdo was winning it was likely this would change very soon.

n9EBOtHj_o.jpg

Because while the Doux was laying siege to the Temple Complex of Niangla the forces of Mew were laying siege to the Castle of Qamdo. Would the Doux himself be captured or was he with his Army?

JD4ZK9rr_o.jpg

On one day two things happened at once. The first was the Basilissa got a reply from the Duke. Seems he appreciated her advice.

ZZbXXKLW_o.jpg

Then there was a birth announcement. A baby boy, named Eudoxios, had been born to the Commander Timotheos and his wife Dorothea.

CFLuBYWe_o.jpg

The parents asked the Empress to pick the boy’s education. At least the first stage. As the father was a Commander, and not a bad one, she decided the boy would follow in his father’s footsteps. He would be allowed to learn the hard knocks of life on his own with little to no tutoring.

YpzHxNdU_o.jpg

She also suggested Commander Paschalis of Nyingchi as the boy’s Guardian. Who better to teach a future warrior than a great warrior?

Xg7IANHG_o.jpg

So the boy’s future education was all set up. Hopefully he would become a great warrior like his father and his teacher.

jGhODYV5_o.jpg

By mid January there was more news from within the Empire. The Baroness of Nalrajar Garh, Theodora of the House Monocharzanios, had died of natural death. Count Antonios of Kamatapur inherited her Barony.

RW8bUr5a_o.jpg

Funny both the Count and the Countess were gay.

“Does that count as a gay marriage?” asked the Empress. “What? Just asking.”

G8QCfz1q_o.jpg

A few days later the Empress went bar hopping to try to forget the death of her dear friend Madanpal. She missed his jolly laugh when he would run over peasants with his carriage. Or the wise advice he would give her whenever they were trying to sneak sticky-buns out of the kitchen.

fY0AtH9o_o.jpg

During this little adventure, where she got drunk, started fist fights, and roasted fish in the bars' fireplaces with her wooden leg, she ran into Mahidevi of the House Ayudha.

9f4gLTMf_o.jpg

The drunken dwarf shared her troubles with the Empress and they soon became close friends.

But the night out had taken a lot more out of the Empress than she realized. After coming home her vision was blurry and her balance was gone. She could not handle her booze like she once could. It slightly shocked her.

Maids had to help her get ready for bed. What shocked her even more was when they started to brush her hair and she glanced at her reflection in the mirror. She had gotten old.

And so we end this chapter with the Empress just starting her 50s.

Roasting fish with your wooden leg is one hell of a conversation starter. Also, Mew is doing great, he's all but got this war in the bag.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Seven : Same Book, Different Page

YyuyfC95_o.jpg

Same Old Same Old

This chapter opens in early February, of the year 931 AD, with the Empress waking up to some good news.

J1CHA7Vs_o.jpg

The staff reported that there were no Factions worrying the Empire. There might be Factions on the Duchy or County levels but none threatening the Empire itself.

vZSyq3Lc_o.jpg

And there was only three plots going on at the moment. This also cheered up the Empress.

IzFLatLX_o.jpg

But her mood took a downturn when she realized that her own murder plot wasn’t going anywhere.

“Why won’t anybody kill the man! Just because they all like him? Blah!” The Empress pouted.

But then she got some news that made her mood hit bottom.

3aI2GHGH_o.jpg

Princess Eudokia of Maurya had given birth to a daughter named Eupraxia of the House Penugonda. Who was NOT the offspring of her husband. Rumor was that she was a Adulteress AND a Cradle Robber.

lD3jtP2u_o.jpg

Or, somebody else was, because her lover was the 49 year old Herakleios of House Exotrochos. A man who was single due to the death if his wife. Seemed he had become….lonely.

“Well,” said the Empress as her staff looked at her in irony, “it could be worse. What? What?”

WdsD2POj_o.jpg

What cheered her up slightly was a glance at the Wall Map. It looked like Mew was about to finish the siege. A few more sieges, and maybe a battle or two, and the Rebellion would be on top.

l27RPDp7_o.jpg

Then the Empress was alerted to the fact that Melissa Dysnomia, daughter to the smelly Princess Basillike of Maurya, needed to have the second stage of her education selected.

The Empress picked Etiquette. Hopefully the girl would learn how to use soap and warm water unlike her mother.

hdAR21Wd_o.jpg

Not much happened until around the idles of March. Seems the Qamdo Army had finished taking the County of Nangqen from Mew and was now heading towards the County of Dulan. INSTEAD of attacking Mew’s LARGER forces directly.

Was this good tactics or a lack of a spine on the Doux’s part? How long would the fight last till one of them dropped out?

So we close this chapter with the Empress watching the war to the north unfold. Would Mew win? OR the Doux win? And should the Empress be eating so much snacks while waiting for something to happen?
