Crusader Kings 2 - The Road of Queens
Chapter Eight Hundred-Fifty-Five : The Seven Bottom Military Realms!
“We Have An Army?!?!”
This chapter will be dealing with the Seven Bottom Military Realms of the Known World! In other words the worst military machines on the date of the 2nd of January in the year 931 AD.
So, starting from the top of the list, or maybe we should say the bottom, the First Realm, Rama, was ruled by Chief Dragan of House Belojevic. A man with one eye, a one eyed wife, a Concubine with both eyes, four kids, and no military. He was also part of the Pagan Defensive Pact against the Aztec Empire. Which was a mixed bag. He could call for help if the Aztec attacked him. But what would he do if summoned to go to war? Hire sell swords?
Amazingly the wife, the Chieftess Mikova, had a father who also had a eye missing. So I guess it was tradition? She was also scarred and missing a hand. A ex-pirate?
The Second Realm was Catid which was ruled by the Khagan Bulcan of the House Tabarid.
He had just over a hundred warriors and was involved in the Pact war against the Mongol Empire. He had a Brawny wife, three Concubines, two kids, and all his limbs. Not much to say here. But he did have negative prestige. There was a story there somewhere but we will likely never know it.
And while technically independent he was the Tributary State to the House Catid. Who are also in a war but not with the Mongols.
The Third Realm on the list was Vologda. The Ruler was Chief Papacyz of the House Papacyzid. He had more than three hundred warriors under his command.
The Chief was Groomed, had a Groomed wife, and one child. He also in a Pact against the Mongols but not currently engaged in a conflict with them.
The Fourth Realm on the list was Pamir. Ruled by Shah Induk of House Korgon. He had over three hundred warriors under his command, one wife, and one kid.
Once again while he was, technically independent, his Realm was also a Tributary State. And also part of a Pact against the Mongols but not involved in any conflicts with them. YET, he was imprisoned by the Mongol Empire. So he MIGHT have been fighting them in the past. Interestingly enough he was a Buddhist Ruler.
The Fifth Realm on the list was Songhay. Ruled by Mansa Cissi of House Cisse. Cisse was a VERY large Dynasty that made up most of the Nobles and Rulers in this region of Africa. So that was not surprising. BUT he was only 15 years old.
While he had over three hundred warriors and a arranged marriage in the works I was shocked he had not been conquered by one of his many neighbors.
And as many of those neighbors were his older siblings I fear he will not likely be in charge of his lands much longer. As many of them would have claims on his title.
Back in the north we find the Sixth Realm. Zanjan. A City ruled by a Mayor named Reza. Well, not just a City. A Republic. A rich Republic with over four hundred soldiers to protect it.
Weird but I guess it was bound to happen. The 60 year old Lowborn Sunni seemed pretty open minded and even nice. Too bad his skills were so bad and he was surrounded by warring states who would love to absorb his City if they could.
The Seventh, and last, Realm on the List of the Bottom Military Powers of the Known World is the Kingdom of Svipjod. The Realm that shows up in a lot of my Bonus Chapters! Ruled by King Sigtrygg “The Just” who commands JUST over a hundred warriors.
Remember the list takes into account how many he COULD command if he was better liked and so forth. In other words his vassals dislike him. Likely due to his complete lack of people skill. Being in debt didn’t help make the soldiers happy either.
How has he survived? Well, anyway, that’s the list. One of the weirdest lists I think I have ever written about. The bottom of the military barrel!
So this chapter ends and in the next chapter we will return back to Basilissa and India.
