As the Queen was carried away from the fighting, leaving one leg and a lot of blood behind, she grabbed the nearest soldier and said, “No retreat! Do you hear me! NO RETREAT!”
She is starting to sound even more deranged than usual.
Then the Empress’s husband showed up with reinforcements and the tides turned.
Seems the smart play would have been to let her husband fight the holding action while she rode to the rescue with the reinforcements. But she is too headstrong for that and the pink mist rose in her eyes.
she refused to stay in her tent. She used a spear to hop about, demanding a horse and another sword, as the medics tried to calm her down.
Starting to sound like the knight from Monty Python’s Holy Grail: “It’s only a flesh wound!” :D
And so the Empress, with her one leg and bloody face, now had a Rival.
She’d better get over the wound first or her reign will be a short one. Just quietly, are you trying to kill her off on purpose? Or just role-playing? ;)

OOC - Much of the time I set some of the Rulers so they don't command armies but I forgot to do that when she took the Imperial Throne and so she ended up with the Levies. As she is insane I figured to let her have her way. At least she survived.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Nine : Chasing Down Hosts

mHvOiUIg_o.jpg

More Marching

This chapter opens in early May, of the year 927 AD, with the Battle of Zhamo still in progress. The center of the Host had collapsed and Alan’s Riders were chasing down some of Toghoril’s bandits.

eMr0jI3J_o.jpg

It was very clear that the bandits had been totally taken by surprise by the hired Cavalry.

o70QMWNG_o.jpg

It was also noticed that the armies of the Duchy of Qamdo were assembling near by. They showed no signs of helping. Maybe they were giving moral support?

424EZ1YN_o.jpg

To the south, in the middle of the Empire, the Empress and her husband was chasing the Host of Uzur. But it looked like the leg-slicer would be escaping. There seemed to be many armies called forth by the Vassals. But these small, local, armies didn’t seem to want to DO anything about the bandits.

m3OYlqfr_o.jpg

In the war to the south the Army of Doux Dionysios III continued the Siege of Khinjali as he waited for the Marathi Company to arrive.

Back up north most of the bandits fighting the Riders were in full flight. It was doubtful they ever had a chance.

9uIWrQYH_o.jpg

In fact the bandits were soon ALL in full flight as the Riders decided to ride them down. And the plains were the perfect place to ride enemy soldiers down with Cavalry. The only problem with this idea is that the bandits were also all mounted.

9N36L6CX_o.jpg

As this was happening the Empress was brought news that a Count Hektorios of Kotivarsa was plotting to kill Theophylaktos of the House Dysnomia. There seemed to be no reason found for this plot as they were not Rivals. Nor were they even under the same Liege.

“Tell the Count to stop his plotting,” grumbled the Empress as she was rattled about the supply wagon she rode in. “And stop hitting all the potholes!”

Bi7AL2s9_o.jpg

Up north the Army of Captain Anbazuk was chasing down the last of the bandits and by the end of May the Battle had been won. Alan’s Riders lost 106 men while the bandits lost 264 men.

EHJz5syz_o.jpg

After the battle Captain Anbazuk started heading south to hit the northern most Army of Orissa from the north.

B6OgTnsU_o.jpg

To the south the Basileus pointed out to his wife that the Host had escaped and she, reluctantly, agreed to this fact. Therefore the Army was told to turn around. It would head north and hit the enemy from the south.

And so this chapter ends with one victory and the Empress about to command troops in another battle.

But those second numbers are casualties not deaths and sometimes people recover. Like in the Total War series.

Nice try, but really just rounding. If you add the columns for different types of units, the rounding errors can increase to 2 and beyond. The people recover factor happens as battle unit falls to zero but you are left with an army of hundreds. Paradox really needed to round to whole numbers at beginning of battle and work from that and do math using rounded numbers. Or the alternative, just show fewer numbers. But it beats the siege screen where you will have .234 of a defender and you wonder which body parts are missing. It is like pulling the curtain from the wizard in 'The Wizard of Oz'. Some things are best left to the imagination.

Not sure if that’s such a good idea, now her personal combat skill will be hampered. A glorious death in battle beckons ...

Chapter Eight Hundred-Ten : Another Victory

1kZ8J3yH_o.jpg

Healing Time

This chapter opens in June, of the year 927 AD, with the Siege of Khinjali still going on.

6q9jqZhP_o.jpg

The defenders were losing more and more of their own as the Army of Doux Dionysios III was about to get bigger as the reinforcements came closer.

sWY12kge_o.jpg

As the war continued news came of a murder plot. Seems Gang Dev of the House Mana was plotting to kill a Rival of his in the House Shantideva.

“Tell him to not,” grumbled the Empress as she tried to make herself comfortable in the supply wagon. The bags of hardtrack were surprisingly bad for her back.

YZgoglT4_o.jpg

Luckily for her the stump healed by the ides of June and she was given a wooden leg. It would take her some time to get use to using it and she still had to use a spear to walk. But it allowed her to walk about a tad faster than before.

Gi6knFIT_o.jpg

Also scars impressed the boys and what woman didn’t like to impress the boys?

HkMZLNjB_o.jpg

Then the Empress received some more bad news. Seems the Bhikkhu Photios of Para-Lauhitya was plotting to kill her granddaughter. The 3 year old Anthe.

“Tell him to stop!” demanded the Empress on hearing about the murder plot. “Nobody kills family but me! ME!”

2BU8N3qB_o.jpg

Then she noticed that the girl was not getting an education for some reason. The Empress decided that Anthe should learn Humility. She, in other words, should learn to serve.

8reOUyGq_o.jpg

Back to the south the Siege of Khinjali was still going on. The Empress, wishing for things to go a tad faster, ordered them to rush the walls and the take the Castle. The Commanders obeyed.

Ixauipl6_o.jpg

The Commanders lost 418 soldiers while wiping out the enemy defenders. All 823 of them.

rCJ1TitK_o.jpg

The Army of Doux Dionysios III moved onto the Temple Complex of Nilamadhav. They set up barriers around the Temple and prepared for a long wait.

Kqqbd6v2_o.jpg

The Empress decided she needed to change the focus in her life. She knew that prayers and meditation would not help her anymore. So she became a Hunter. She needed to work on her military skills and felt it was one the best ways to do this.

And so we close this chapter with a victory and the Empress changing her lifestyle.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Eleven : Battle Of Sugauna

gr7WSrjr_o.jpg

Lots Of Sieges!

This chapter opened in late July, of the year 927 AD, with the Empress learning how to ride with one leg. Sadly, no saddles had been designed to help her balance on a horse with one leg. Not yet, anyway.

lSXwrp14_o.jpg

The Army of Great King Netta was approaching what would be the battle field. Back to the south the Commanders at the Siege of Nilamadhav was ordered to rush the defenses of the Temple Complex.

RtA5UFfc_o.jpg

The Priests were wiped out to the last man. All 829 of them. The Imperial forces lost 299 soldiers.

With the Temple Complex under their control the Army of Doux Dionysios III marched onto the City of Nayagarh.

lZFXBHKt_o.jpg

The soldiers put up barriers and set up the siege equipment. The 380 defenders, made out of the Town Guard, would not likely last very long.

E38diaNE_o.jpg

The Empress and her husband, realizing the enemy army was slightly larger, decided to go on the defense on a land of their choosing. Therefore the Orissa Army ended up coming to them. For some reason they left 11 soldiers behind to try to take the county.

zmvWHTIz_o.jpg

Back to the south the Commanders decided to end the Siege of Nayagarh as quickly as possible. So they rushed the piles of chairs and tables that blocked the streets. The Town Guard, and the few farmers and shop owners who had joined In the defenses, were overwhelmed. The Imperial forces lost 299 while all 380 defenders were killed.

GRAbcfWk_o.jpg

Once the Army was ready it headed northwest to engage an enemy army that was marching northwards.

NNv8vs7w_o.jpg

As the Armies marched the Empress received news about the Doux of Kasi. He had passed the Religious Control Mandate Law.

Then the Empress and her husband were attacked by the forces of the Kingdom of Orissa. The enemy had slightly more Archers but the Imperial Army also had Mounted Missile Troops. And so the Battle of Sugauna had begun.

Mqty0vTr_o.jpg

The forces were too equal for a simple battle. The exchange of missiles and arrows was still happening when August came about.

And so this chapter ends with two more victories and the Empress in her second battle.

So she still has that death wish. Hope her daughter is ready to take over.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Twelve : Another Victory!

More Medieval Battles
This chapter opened in early August, in the year 927 AD, with the news that Savtilek of the House Tuzniqid, a 15 year old girl, had been released from the Khagan’s dungeons’.

CPRu9mHu_o.jpg

Why had a little girl ended up in the Mongols’ dungeons? Turns out she was the daughter of one of the Khagan's enemies.

HijEv87X_o.jpg

Down to the south the Army of Doux Dionysios III attacked the Orissa army in what would be recorded as the Battle of Sambalpur. The Imperial forces had all the advantages but for one. The enemy had more Archers.

11OuJUJi_o.jpg

Up north the other enemy army, at the Battle of Sugauna, were showing signs that they may break. Their center was starting to crumble.

Back to the south the exchange of arrows and missiles had come to a halt. Now the two armies clashes, shield to shield, sword to sword, and the Imperials had more infantry than the enemy.

kvQ7YzpX_o.jpg

The Orissa Royal soldiers soon were overwhelmed and broke under the pressure. The Imperial Cavalry was sent in. Though using such a tactic in the forests was not very wise.

OdIIAPQ7_o.jpg

While this was going on the Bishop Sviatopolk of Luboml had been imprisoned by the Mongols. Looks like they didn’t like Christians of any Sect.

bxwbFfOq_o.jpg

The Bishop was a vassal of the High Chief Vojtech “The Lionheart” of Volhynia. Who was one of the many, many, many Realms at war with the Mongols Empire.

Back to the Battle of Sugauna the Imperial Cavalry were charging across the plains after the fleeing enemy. The Royal army had completely collapsed and were in chaos.

T0lyeDcb_o.jpg

Soon the enemy’s center dissolved into nothingness. Victory would soon be within the Empress’s grasp.

D2hkSP67_o.jpg

Down to the south the Battle of Sambalpur came to an end. And it was a Imperial victory. The Commanders lost 390 men while the Orissa army lost 1,031 men. A major victory.

So we close this chapter with another victory even as the Empress, and her husband, were about to gain another victory.

Chapter Eight Hundred-Thirteen : Final Victory

hALPLmEh_o.jpg

Peace
This chapter opens in late August, of the year 927 AD, with the Empress being alerted to a murder plot.

MYttA2qA_o.jpg

Seems the Count of Kundina was seeking to kill Mahendrani of the House Pala.

“Tell him to stop,” demanded the Empress as she hobbled about with her wooden leg, good leg, and spear. She had said that while fighting off enemy soldiers at the Battle of Sugauna.

jLTGOSGc_o.jpg

Back to the South the Army of Doux Dionysios III moved to attack a enemy army that was trying to free the Kingdom’s holdings.

Up north the Imperial Cavalry were chasing the enemy soldiers across the plains.

3jAavJ3z_o.jpg

Soon the battle came to an end. The Imperial forces lost 178 soldiers while the Orissa army lost 586 soldiers.

L0YKS47E_o.jpg

On top of that one of the enemy Commanders, a lowborn named Rajrajendranarayan, had been captured.

zvrL6uAw_o.jpg

By this time everybody understood that the Kingdom of Orissa had lost the war to keep the County of Khinjali Mandala.

R5MyazqQ_o.jpg

The demand for Peace, and the County, was sent to the Great King of Orissa. The offer was accepted and the war came to an end.

1NOWQngW_o.jpg

And so the title was given to the Empress’s oldest daughter. With this Peace Treaty peace once again had come back to the lands.

CIq51fz5_o.jpg

The Great King of Orissa now had one County left. It was far to the west in the middle of India. The County of Ujjayini was all the Kingdom of Orissa had left.

The Armies were recalled, the Levies were disbanded, and the two Mercenary units were dismissed.

HHgHVa0z_o.jpg

It turned out the prisoner, Rajrajendranarayan, was a member of the Kamarupanagaran Band.

“So the enemy hired our OWN mercenary band?” said the Empress with a frown. “Oh boy. Well, make him pay to get released.”

rm5eqx9W_o.jpg

So the Empress told the lowborn he could go. For a price. 10 gold coins of wealth.

LjwM4THX_o.jpg

By September Rajrajebdranarayan had collected the money and paid for his freedom.

U8fjFKhN_o.jpg

So the chapter ends with the Empress gaining glory and the Exarchessa, and Heir to the Throne, gaining another title.

In our next chapter we will list the Top Seven Military Powers of the Known World!!!

Chapter Eight Hundred-Fourteen : Top Seven Military Powers

4IqQUkir_o.jpg

Mongols Heading West

This chapter opens on the 1st of September, of the year of 927 AD, and we will be listing the Top Seven Military Powers of the KNOWN WORLD!

kTutpMlO_o.jpg

Of course, the First Realm on the list was the Mongol Empire. Ruled by the VERY aggressive Khagan Yokhunan. A 43 year old Warrior who knew his stuff. Highly skilled at combat and a learned Strategist of the Art of War he was trying his best to expand the Empire’s borders westwards.

At the time he was at war with the Khagan of Khazaria. And while the enemies were many the Mongol Empire was still winning. The Khagan had MANY titles and he planned to add to them before he died.

The next Realm on this list was the Aztec Empire. Ruled by “Bloodaxe” who wasn’t very good at being a Ruler.

M4IvebXx_o.jpg

The Aztec Empire, on the surface, seemed to have stalled. And under the surface things were much worse. First, he was having issues balancing the budget. Second, there was a Catholic Revolt and the uprising was winning.

Then there was the failure to take Jerusalem. And, of course, there was the mean rumors being told about him behind his back. Also, being a Coward didn’t help him. There was also the fact he didn’t know how to handle any type of weapon.

eahG9rR9_o.jpg

The Third Realm on the list was the Byzantine Empire ruled by Basileus Bosporios “The Missionary” of House Souanites. The 27 year old Ruler was doing a better job of ruling this Empire than others.

He was in the war to fight off the Mongols. And was losing like the rest of the Pact. He was also having issues with a LOT of Raiders and Hosts. Overall, though, he was going great when compared to some past Rulers. He was good with both weapons and bank accounts.

The Fourth Realm on the list was just to the south. The Arabian Empire! Ruled by Caliph Zeyd “The Terrible”. Who was also the Religious Leader of the Sunni.

ANFjlR2Z_o.jpg

Turns out he had finally produced some children. On the other hand he was defending himself against a Revolt and was losing. But being in his late sixties it was doubtful he would be around for long.

The next on the list was a Realm in India. Known as the (Second) Empire of Maurya ruled by the Basilissa Eupraxia “The Quarreller” of the House Dysnomia.

r5UJ39XL_o.jpg

The Basilissa was an insane one-legged woman who was known to have gained SOME skills at dueling. But she had won her first war and that was a good thing. Right?

The Sixth Realm on the list was Al-Jazira, also known as the Mirzid, was ruled Caliph Mirza II “The Evil”.

BCYklGeH_o.jpg

Not the BEST name for the Religious Leader of the Shia. This nickname was likely due to the fact that he was Cynical, had a maidservant as a lover, and was stressed out. Not really the best combo in a Ruler.

The House of Mirzid was ALSO in the war again the Mongol Empire. And, like the rest, losing.

So the last Realm on the list was back in India. The Kosala, also known as the Empire of the Ayudha, was ruled by the Great King Vidurathpala.

m9sSDE3N_o.jpg

The Great King, like others, was a balance of good and bad traits. He had some people skill and knew which end of a spear to hold. On the other hand, for some reason, his wife was in hiding. Likely because her husband was crazy and thought he was trying to kill her. Or maybe she was TRYING to hide out of embarrassment?

Funny enough HE was skilled in the act of “not-being-seen”. Which was amazing for such a overweight man. And like many of the other Realms on the list he was part of the war to try to fight off the Mongols.

And so this chapter ends. But don’t worry. Our next chapter will be a bonus chapter!
