If a lowborn is my rival, he should not be focusing on killing me, since that would be almost impossible due to his wealth and status.
But, he could, for example, try to rally the other peasants to take me out of my throne, if he has good martial stats, or he could make the peasants angry at the taxes or something and have penalties on the capital of the realm if he has good diplomacy stats and the list goes on. Or even, have him as a rival in love.

This way, having a peasant rival would mean more to the game story and would pressure the player to try his best to get rid of the rival
