During one of my many (many, many) restart as Papacy, I noticed that I suddently and surprisingly see Japan event. I then check the map by dezooming at max level and see that yes, I gained knowledge of many provinces (sea and land):

How?

By the way, I also see some of Mexico provinces and Peru.

I didn't have any "you discover land" event, and by 1453 I have not yet taken my first idea set. (So I have not exploration or expansion idea
Closest save attached.
(It's an ironman game).

Thanks for your information.

I had this same issue the other day when starting a new 1444 game as Portugal over an old save with the same name. I certainly didn't click on any other start dates but I wonder whether somehow overwriting my old save of the same name where much of the world as discovered may have caused this.

I'm sure i didn't click on any other date, but as GOoseSpringsteen said, my current game is saved on an old savegame...
Interesting. Maybe something isn't properly overwritten when the new game replaces the old?

Urbi et Orbi ?

I imagine it's a glitch, but it's nice to think that it's an Easter-egg on hidden Vatican knowledge of the wider world gleaned from Roman sources :)
