As of now, I think, we can safely assure, that I:R is dead in the sense, that there won't be any official development anymore. This is, quite frankly spoken, a shame, because the game in its current state has many advantages over other Paradox games, while maintaining its own weaknesses.

Therefore, I hereby make a bold proposal:

Form and announce an Official Mod Team for Imperator:Rome (OMTI:R). Give them access to all of I:R's database. Let them develop the game further on an unpaid basis.

Some work to open up modding tools and allow I:R's modders to go forth is an excellent idea. However, giving a formal position to modders would also make them liable for their content, which is not a choice PDX's legal team is ever going to allow.

As mentioned forming an official modding team could have complications for PDX but in any case they could open up all the modding possibilities if they are never going to continue development.

It's my understanding, possibly wrong, that Paradox games tend to share engines. If the Paradox team opens up I:R for more modding, does that also open up other games of theirs the same?
