I decided to start this AAR after I had started the game so I will try to catch everyone up as best as possible. Also some of this is guess work as I dont remember the exact time frames of battles and original model of units. This is my first HOI3 game and is set on Easy. I also decided to try out letting the AI taking control so I told the Western Theater to defend against the French and the Eastern Theater to Blitzkrieg Warsaw. After Poland I created the 9th and 10th Armored Corps not attached to the Western Theater as well as the 2nd Motorized Infantry Division, and much later the 1st and 2nd Heavy Armored Divisions. Ironically there is a 2nd and 3rd Motorized Infantry Division but no 1st. I am assuming when I was messing with my production que I accidently deleted it b/c I meant to have 3. I found Guderian, Rommel and von Manstein in command of infantry divisions at the start of the invasion of France and changed them when available. Ironically Rommel was the only member of those 3 I attached to the AI controlled Western Theater. The other thing I found hysterical was I had meant to have a few Infantry divisions with AA brigades. However, the next day I wanted to build a LOT of divisions at once so I spammed them. So now I have around 10-15 infantry divisions with 3 infantry brigades and 1 AA brigade. Portugal and later Hungary would be the first to join the Axis besides Italy. Later during the war I would get Yugoslavia and Persia. The Kriegsmarine suffers during my game.

The Spanish civil war came as no surprise to those monitoring the situation in that troubled country. Thousands of volunteers poured into the Spanish countryside to support their cause, especially the Republican side. The Soviet Union and the 3rd Reich poured resources, men and machines into the conflict. Despite the infusion of technology and troops from the 3rd Reich, the world was shocked when the Republican faction won the civil war in Spain. The Condor Legion came home bloodied and brought back valuable information and experience. Adolf Hitler vowed to make Communist supported Republican Spain pay.

By 1939, Hitler thought Germany was ready. The Navy had been reorganized into the Baltic Fleet, with its venerable World War I ships, the Atlantic and North Sea Fleets, which were identical in makeup. Two Escort Carriers were the flagships of the fleet supported by two Heavy Cruisers, three Light Cruisers, one Destroyer flotilla and one flotilla of level 4 submarines. Poland was invaded with some 75 Infantry Divisions and 8 panzer divisions, several of which were light tanks, 6 or 9 interceptor squadrons, 3 Strategic and 10 Tactical Bomber Squadrons escorted by a squadron of multi-role fighters.

The infantry divisions on the western theater held off the divisions of the French and Belgians. The Dutch never joined the Allies and since the way was open through Belgium Hitler decided to ignore the Dutch. The experienced forces from the war in Poland were sheppered to the west. Rommel was transferred from command of the 63rd Infantry Division to command of the 9th Panzer Division during the middle of the invasion of France. The 9th was composed of 3 obsolete 1918 tanks and a modern motorized infantry brigade and put right in the thick of the fighting to plug a gap and singularly defended against 3 French divisions and counterattacked. Also the 9th and 10th Army (Armor) Corps swung down from northern coast of France to attack the rear of the French forces holding the bulk of German forces at bay and actually succeeding near the Maginot Line. The Battle of Paris lasted several days with the 9th and 10th Army Corps and the 2nd Motorized spearheading the attack and France fell within two months.

Near the close of the invasion of France Guderian was put in command of the 1st Heavy Tank Division. Germany called upon Italy to assist in the war against the Allies a few days after the Battle Of Paris but by that time France surrendered. Slovakian divisions proved themselves time and time again during the invasion of all three nations even assisting in the defeat of invading British divisions. It was after this that Britain began using strategic bombers to hit northern France and Germany's interceptors rushed to intercept them time and time again.

Wanting a land bridge to Axis Portugal, Republican Spain was invaded. During the invasion of Spain the Kriegsmarine suffered its worse defeat. The Atlantic fleet escaped with only its CVLs. Rommel's 9th was upgraded to Panzer IVs. Spain fell within roughly two months, becoming a puppet of the 3rd Reich 0400 November 14th, 1940. The 9th and 10th Army Corps and 2nd Motorized headed south to assist in the assault on Gibraltar but a single Infantry Division easily destroyed the single militia division protecting it.

In a meeting of the General Staff, Hitler looked down at the giant map of France and Spain layed on the table before him. The might of the 3rd Reich was displayed before him and the positions were updated by younger men as word came in. His fists planted on the table he looked the general's and Admiral Raeder in the eye. Raeder had taken it upon himself to command the Atlantic Fleet, but being as there was practically no Atlantic Fleet he had returned to Berlin while the Heavy Cruiser Blucher finished maneuvers.
"The English are harrassing us at every turn. They are frustrating the efforts of the Kreigsmarine." He waved a hand at Raeder. "The only thing holding them at bay is the escort carriers you suggested! Their Bombers have the 3rd Wolfpack pinned and are bombing France! Goering," He said shaking a finger at the man, "you told me you could take care of that!" Hitler shook his head and looked down at the map, his dark eyes staring intently at the island that was Britain. "The only recourse is to put an end to the British! Begin making preperations for the invasion. Make sure our best Generals are on those first ships! I want our forces landed before the end of the year!!!!" He stabbed a finger at Plymouth with great vehemence. "We will strike there and secure the port. I want Guderian, von Manstein, Rommel and the 1st ArmeeKorps spearheading that assault!!" He pointed at the two territories to the west of Plymouth. "Reinforcements will go there and our troops will sweep west to London!" He paused as almost in afterthought and looked at them again. "Rommel will be in over all command of the invasion."

Immediately following the introduction of Spain into the Axis the 1st ArmeeKorps was sent north to be loaded onto the transports there, as well as the 2nd Motorized Infantry Division, Rommel's 9th Division, Guderian and von Manstein's Tiger Divisions and the 9th and 10th Army Corps. They are remade into the Seelowe Korps. The 4th Interceptor, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Tactical Bomber Wings were moved to the west of France in preparation to support to the invasion. The Atlantic and North Sea Fleets swung around the north of England to the Channel to clear the way for the transports and on the 23rd of December at 1500 hours the invasion was launched. I total of 15 divisions was planned to land in England.

Hehe, is this our first player Sealion? I'm not sure, and too lazy to check. Still, I'll keep an eye on this. ;)

General Erwin Rommel stepped out onto the railing of the transport in full dress uniform. Somehow he felt it appropriate for this auspicious occasion. The wind tosseled the edges of his great coat and the cold air of the dawn bit into his face. At Hitler's insistance he had jumped from Major General to full General. He could only imagine how his peers must have reeled but they did not say anything to his face if they felt negatively. The 9th,10th, and 1st Army Corps, as well as the 2nd Motorized Infantry Division and his friends Guderian and von Manstein had all been combined under the 1st Army. His own 9th had been given over to Angern. He wished the three Fallschirmajger divisions had been ready but Hitler was adamant about launching the invasion.
As the sun began to rise over the horizon the vague shapes of JU-88s escorted by FW-190Ds and ME-109E Emils passed overhead to begin another run of bombing on Plymouth. His binoculars scanned the surrounding seas but he did not see any sign of Admirals Marschall or Bohm. That concerned him a little but obviously the timing was off and the transports had beaten the fleets to the channel. He looked around him at the vast armada of transport ships arrayed in loose formation, smoke rising from their stacks. He could make out the sailors on deck and the men crowding the smaller transport boats that would dump the infantry on shore. He knew the men must be scared, wondering if the British Navy lurked just out of sight or under the seas about to sink their ship. His real concern was getting tanks on the beaches but he knew the British were unprepared. Only a few Royal Marines guarded the shores.
He heard a noise behind him and turned to see some of his Corps' Commanders....

The bullets whizzed over his head and Schutze Rider thought this was a crazy way to spend Christmas. Last year he was spending time with his family, opening presents with his little brother. Now he was hungry, cold, wet and tired and had been fighting for a day. The overwhelming tide of infantry and machines had pushed past the beach in a few hours. They had caught the Royal Marines pretty much completely off guard. It was after they had landed that all hell broke loose. He peered around the rock and fired off a shot cursing as he just missed a man using a tree as cover...

On the 28th Rommel was smiling as he watched through his binoculars in the back of the wagen the retreat of the British. They were retreating in the direction of Bodin and that would offer no rest as he got word that reinforcements were due to land there and Penzance in a few hours...
Marschall watched through binoculars on the flag deck of the KMS Elbe as the CL KMS Karlsruhe let off a broadside at a British destroyer. The flak around the British fleet was horrendous as his fighters dived at the much larger British fleet. His plan had worked and so far his North Sea Fleet was keeping the British busy while the transports slipped away...

Admiral Bohm's Atlantic Fleet had arrived in time to assist Marschall. He watched a dive bomber land on the folling flat top and there were shouts of exclamation. He looked to see smoke broiling from the stern of the CA in his fleet and knew she was about to sink. However, it was not in vain. Her shots had crippled the British CA and his Dive Bombers scored a direct hit and her magazines went off with a brilliant fireball....

The battle had lasted hours..a day and the Kriegsmarine and the British were still at it. Torpedoes were fired, dropped and shells burst from the deck guns. The wreckage was complete. Kapitan Hauser watched the carnage he had wrought with a predators grin through the periscope. A British transport full of supplies and men to relieve the belaguered homeland slipped beneath the waves. The ocean around him was dangeoursly crowded...

By the 8th the 1st Army was hot on the heels of the British and they were in retreat in an attempt to regroup. The 1st Army had to wait while badly needed supplies rolled in. Schutze Rider got into the back of the truck as the tank was topped off. He held his rifle in front of him and their trucks started forward in advance of the Panzers. He was lucky. All he had to do was look out to see the string of men of the 1st Army Corps walking to the British..

Hitler and his staff were holding a short meeting. He was tired and his hands were starting to shake...All reports were Seelowe was a success. He looked to the Med' to see the Italians were making progress and watched North Africa as a young man pushed division counters into position..He ignored the reports of partisans. There were plenty of men in France to deal with them..He nodded in satisfaction and heaped praise upon his Generals. After a long winded speech he walked out and whispered to an aide to call his doctor.......

Rommel was frustrated. A good portion of the 1st was out of supplies and idling while they waited for more. Still his men pushed on and the British continued to retreat. Already men were singing praises and going to battle with smiles on their faces!

The invasion looks pretty good! Though could you resize your images? They're waaay too big at the moment. I have a high (widescreen) resolution and they're too wide even for that, others will have even more problems.

Yeah, shrinking them is good. Or crop them. Just make them smaller. It makes life easier for everyone else.

The 1st and 2nd Interceptor Wings had been flying escort and Combat Air Patrol along the route. Scores of transport planes filled the night sky. Hauptmann Eric Kappel woke when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He looked up to see his Feldwebel stepping back. Kappel stood up and the man helped check his gear. He looked to see everyone else in the plane was doing the same. The door slid open and the Feldwebel stood to the side. Kappel stood in the doorway gripping the frame. The light turned green and he felt a hand slap his back and the man yell "GO GO GO"!
The cold night air smacked into Kappel's face and the world below him was dark with smattering of lights. Search lights from the streets of London scanned the air and flak rose to meet them. As the ground rushed up he pulled his ripchord. He was jerked into an upright position and held onto the straps as he fell slowly towards the earth. The other men of the 1. Fallschirmjager fell with him to the outskirts of London....

The Royal Family and many of the royal treasures had obviously been evacuated. Kappel was standing on the steps of Buckingham Palace two days after the landing smoking a cigarette. The 23rd Motorized Infantry Division had put up quite a fight. His radioman just reported that the main army should reach them in a few days...

By the 7th Romania joined the Axis, although Hitler did not call them to arms. He was planning on keeping Hungary and Romania as reserves in case of Soviet invasion. The invasion was proceeding smoothly. Maidstone, the last southern bastion in England, held out for 30 hours before falling..

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Fallschirmjager moved north to cut the divisions o the west off from their supplies and seize the port.

General Schmidt had been sitting idle for weeks. His men were starting to get bored. There were reports of a pocket of England not taken. He wondered why it had been left untouched, there was no heavy resistance there. If there was they would have retaken land already taken. He was pondering this when he received orders to march! FINALLY, he thought.

The British counterattacked and managed to retake a few provinces. Rommel had to shift units of the 1st Army to compensate

Hitler was raging! Someone had ordered the paratroopers into Ireland. That was all well and good but there were no transports and no airfields to retrieve them! It did not matter that someone thought the British would retreat there. What kind of idiot idea was that?!!!!!

Sorry to anyone that has been watching this. I have been very busy and not had much time to play let alone update this.

By April 12, 1941 resistance in Great Britain had dropped. The citizens had yet to try any serious resistance either. Great Britain was all but officially conquered. Hitler was expecting the British to bow before him and surrender. After all, what possible hope could they have of retaking their homeland when all that remained was their pathetic colonies. Did Churchill really believe those lands could hope to raise a large enough army? If the Americans were going to help they would have done it already.

The events of the 17th were a perfect example of this. Hitler had no intention of leaving Great Britain for the retaking.

On May 6th the North Sea and Atlantic Fleets had been patroling the seas around Scapa Flow and the island base to the north. Both fleets encountered an attempt by the British to land troops...

There were no interceptions. No Flak to greet the transport planes of the 3rd Reich. Kappel and his men landed on a deserted air base. After nearly breaking his neck landing on the tarmac of the runway he was busy gathering his parachute. The men around him seemd to have landed well and were fanning out into cover. Something was off. There was no resistance in Scappa Flow. The famous naval base had seemingly been left undefended, ripe for the taking?!

The 15th and the 29th saw simliar attempts to retake England.

With Scapa Flow Taken and secured, plans were set in motion to invade the island to the north and take the last of the British isles. Things were not moving as quickly as Hitler liked with delays from the weather. The Bomber and Interceptor Squadrons that had helped during the invasion were rebased north and within a few days began bombing the island and the interceptors flying CAP. The island was heavily patrolled by the British navy and RAF and the North Sea and Atlantic Fleets moved to intercept the navy and create a safe zone for which the ships could land troops.

((Somehow I lost the last few screenshots pertaining to invasion of Lerwick. The British navy attempted to relieve the island but the Kriegsmarine came through.))

On June 1st, Rommel's 1st army was ready to invade Lerwick, the last "stronghold" of Britain. The bombers of the Luftwaffe began launching air attacks to soften the defenders for the assault.

Rommel sat in a wooden chair in a small tavern in Newcastle surrounded by his staff. The news had just come in that Lerwick had fallen and the British Navy had been chased off. They attempted to sink the transports carrying the ground forces but the Kriegsmarine had chased them off and managed to sink a destroyer. Lerwick fell within a couple days.
He was working out strategies to invade North Africa and assist the Italians that seemed to be bogged down. He kenw only a token force would be needed to protect the island from liberation. He handed the plans over to one of his staff and it would be transmitted to Berlin. At the same time he wrote orders for his 1st Army to prepare to invade and have them into position to launch...

A month to break out of Cornwall, another month to reach London and two more to passify all of England. Very nice and what-if-historical progress (if you have to believe Churchill that is).

What is your next goal?

I would like the option to puppet the UK, but release some of their colonies, like in HoI2. Good job so far Marshal. Keep up the good work.:)
