So I'm relatively new to this game and yesterday got to the "winning land by the spear" tech, playing as Rome. So I decided to go and conquer Thrace (who owned almost all of Anatolia).

However when I declared war using the Imperial Challenge CB it gave me a stability hit, WE, and AE as if I was using no casus belli. Is that normal? When I look at let's plays (admittedly from 2 years ago) these effects don't show up. If it's normal I may have to rethink how I will conquer Egypt and Syria.

Yes, I love superiority wars because I do not have to worry about the war goal ticking war score and I only concentrate in winning battles instead of defending or attacking an impossible location

Ah, great! Thanks for your quick replies!

Now to mend my destabilised and unhappy empire...

For happiness try to convert all your pops asap, using governor policies is very helpful and only costs PI with a flat cost no matter how many pops in the province. Buildings cost money and they only affect one territory. For PI generation set your leader scheme: influence.

Moreover, if you are in dire need, you can use PI to double stab pigs to the gods in western religions.

This is definitely a misleading mechanic, at least when coming from EUIV, because reading Imperial Challenge UI information makes it sound like EUIV's "Holy War," "Imperialism," and other such CBs instead of a different war type.

I wish this war type existed in EU IV, especially in late-game when it is semi-realistic since entire states vaporized during this time period. It'd add some drama to the end-game of EU IV that is currently lacking (the late-game wars feel like WWI, not the Napoleonic period...punishment perhaps for not winning earlier).

I love this war type in Imperator.
