can i get a detailed description on how to play multiplayer? how do i host? What is the IP address thing? you can only play on metaserver if there are other players right? what if i just want to play with one friend, how would i do that?

thanks

i no longer have the manual. the strategy guide doesnt do much for me either.

i dont know how to identify or find my IP address. All i really want to be able to do is play with a friend online.

can anyone explain with detail (like your speaking to a 3rd grader) how to go about doing that.

My firewall? dont know much about that or how to open ports
LAN? Hosting?

thanks again

Check your ip by going to for example http://whatismyip.com/

To set up your router, go to http://portforward.com/
From the list select your router. If an advertisement pops up, click from right upper corner "Click here to skip this advertisement". From the list of games click Europa Universalis III, and follow the guide.

If your router also is your hardware firewall, no additional settings needed.

If you have a software firewall, read the manual. If you have just Windows Firewall, allow Rome access to the internet when the question pops up; this is btw the way most software firewalls handle the situation too.

If you still don't have a clue, ask for a bit more computer-savvy friend or relative to go through these steps with you. However it really isn't that hard, even I figured it out, and I am all thumbs regarding computer stuff :)
