((Almost forgot, but since the chamberlain passed away, the position is now open. The members of the Cortz (@Von Habsburg, @Luftwafer, & @AvatarOfKhaine) may now appoint any noble they want to the position. Feel free to pick someone for the position before the next update. Also, now that court chaplain is appointed by the cardinals and we have only one clergy member, @ML8991 may appoint himself to the position if he wants.))

I nominate myself for this important position of Chamberlain. Hispania will continue to rise, this is not yet our zenith.

((Indeed, there is a rule now making it so new characters cannot claim roles or leader positions on their first turn to prevent role hogging and to give others a chance to claim them. It's also to represent that those new to court would most likely need to make themselves known first or gain experience before being appointed to any position. As for the Council, I am not filling any of the vacant spots at the moment, since once I appoint the prime minister they'll all be fired anyway. I'm going to let the first prime minister start with a clean state and appoint whoever they like. It doesn't matter anyway, since heretics cannot be appointed to the council until the third religious reform is passed.))

((Makes sense :). Must have missed the second part . Still, we currently have no diplomat, and as it is a different role it would be no role hogging, that's why I presented my char - doesn't matter much if we don't have any diplomat though, considering their impact on daily politics .))

I must apologise for the brashness of this letter, coming so soon after your father's recent death- may the Lord preserve him,- but my brother asked of me if you would accept his daughter, Amelia, to join you in matrimony. I understand of course if your father, as prepared as he ever is, has already already arranged a match for you, but my brother and I ask still,
May the Lord shine favourably upon both you and your father up above,
Yours ever truly, Cardinal Juan II de Soneta

Your Eminence,

It pleases me that Hispania's most present cardinal doesn't adress me to burn me but to speak of marriage. Truly, this kingdom is a very progressive and tolerant realm. Still, as much as I would like to accept this proposal, I am already married since 14 years with Isabel Sastre. My absence from the kingdom and father's absence from court during the religious troubles might be responsible for that misinformation. I would still be interested in further binding together our great houses; if your brother has a suitable grandchild, we could arrange a betrothal with my son Louis François (*1590) or one of my daughters, Claire Élise (*1593) and Anne Catherine (*1595). May our two great houses continue our fruitful relations for the far future. Could I also ask for your support in religious matters? This proposal shows me that if even a Cardinal treats me as equal, the time has come to take the next step in Hispania's pursuit of tolerance. With clerical backing, I am positive that Hispania has an easier road to achieve the dream of being a kingdom where all ideas are discussed, as heart of the innovative renaissance.

Respectfully,
Denis Vincent de Montségur, Duc de Trinacrie

To further establish Hispania's role as beacon of prosperity and innovation I feel that the time has come to treat each faithful Christian as such. Hispanians shall be able to openly discuss their faith with the crown's missionaries. Having seen both sides of the religious war in the HRE and knowing of the Hispanian revolts, encouraging an open debate runs less risks than to forbid it and brew a spirit of rebellion.

For a time it seemed that the church was quiet and peaceful, a profound contrast to the relatively recent upheavals that the church had undertaken to try insure stability in Hispania, or not as the case often appeared to be... But all of a sudden two notices came forward to Juan, breaking him from his mild revere. He would first send a letter on to his King, and then to a close friend, important in this time of troubles...

To my most gracious King, I am most sorry for your loss of your father, he was indeed a great man, who directed this country with such magnamity and capacity through our most challenging of days. I hope that I can serve you as Court Chaplin, and as a a guidance to affairs of a spiritual nature. May your reign be prosperous and long,
Your faithful servant, Cardinal Juan II de Soneta.

To my Gracious Duc,
No my friend, I think enough blood has been shed in a effort for seeing a "path to the true light" and it would seem most hypocritical of a nation that mended the great schism to attack these new interpretations of the divine word. But no matter, I swear by both the laws of the land and to you as my friend, that no harm shall come to those viewed by others in distain, for as long as I have breath in this body. But I digress and should get to the true reason our correspondence started . My brother does indeed have grandchildren, it seems that both of us are blessed with lines that can produce such bountiful children. I am sure he will be delighted to see his eldest daughter, the fair Helené Agrathria Felicta de Soneta ((born 1588)), married, and should you so want I could conduct the ceremony myself, but I will allow that to your discretion good sir.
May God bless this most merry union and a continued and stable realm under our Gracious new King Pere V,
Yours ever truly, my Brother,
Juan II de Soneta, Cardinal of Hispania, Archbishop of Pirineo, Bishop of the North

((a handy tagging for @Michaelangelo and @alscon so that you both know that I have replied))

Your Eminence,

I am very pleased to read that. I will gladly accept the offer of betrothing my eldest to lady Helené. Considering all circumstances, I would be honoured if you would conduct the ceremony after the Catholic rite. I am not opposed to it, and my wife still firmly believes in its teachings. I only request that the marriage will be held in the Cathedral of Palermo when the betrothed are of age. My ancestors have a close connection to this church, as the place where they were married and most of them buried as well. I would not want to break with this tradition at least.

May the future be as bright as the recent past,
Denis Vincent de Montségur

((True enough, but I'm trying to leave the way open for whatever Chancellor the first PM picks. It's the same reason I have yet to fill our last diplo slot. I want the Chancellor to have something to do.))

I appreciate your guidance in spiritual matters, especially in such troubling times. I fear that though my father's intentions were good, he has caused great strife for my reign if I do not handle things properly. I can only hope I will rule as well as he did.

To My King,
I thank you greatly for imparting upon me the esteemed position of Court Chaplin, I shall endeavour to fulfil this role as best as am able. But I recognise that you see it fit to make the post of Prime Minster, may I be so bold as to ask that you could impart this most esteemed role upon my person, and I promise unto you that your will shall be heard and affirmed with even more strength than ever before, in the court of Hispania. May God bless you child, and feel free to make correspondence, should anything come awry,
Yours ever faithfully,
Cardinal Juan II de Soneta

King Pere read over the cardinal's letter with great thought. He had been debating whether or not to reconcile with the Church for days now, but he was unsure which was the wiser course. Now Hispania's foremost cardinal was offering his services as prime minister. Perhaps this was the answer. Who better to form a council fit for dealing with such issues than a cardinal? He seemed content with this option and wrote up a reply.

It eases my mind greatly to receive your letter. While the worst has passed, I still feel that the religious troubles of Hispania still linger. Your position as cardinal, as well as court chaplain, makes you ideally suited for handling his issues. I will gladly bestow the position of prime minister upon you so that you may appoint a council fit for advising me and guiding the kingdom to a brighter future.

- His Majesty, Pere V de Trastámara, King of Hispania and Protector of the Greeks & the Knights

((I was hoping a noble or clergy would apply to the position, and finally one has. ML8991 is now our first prime minister. All ministers are now fired and ML is free to appoint whoever he likes to any position, including granting positions back to those who held them previously if he wishes. Seeing as he's court chaplain, he cannot give himself another position, for he already has two. Other than the chamberlain, who will be appointed by the Cortz, everything else is free game. Also a reminder that due to our religious laws, open heretics & heathens may not serve on the council. I don't need a new council immediately, so as long as I have a list before the next update, that will be fine.))

I am most glad that you can see me seated in this most elevated of positions, I shall endeavour to do as you please, but allow me to address the court to see who first wants these positions, before I decide upon the new persons.
Yours truly
Cardinal Juan II de Soneta

I hereby call all men and woman of note to petition unto me a letter requesting a council position, all letters shall be considered, and I shall endeavour to make this a truly great council, may God bless all ye,
Decree issued by Cardinal Juan II de Soneta, Cardinal of Hispania, Archbishop of Barcelona, Bishop of the North, Court Chaplin, 1st Prime Minster of the Hispanian realms

Dear Juan de Soneta,

I ask to be rehired in my previous position of Grandmaster. During my term, I was able to resolve trade issues before they grew, and I hope to do so once again. My experience as a trader and Grandmaster, I believe, make me qualified to return to my position.

Sincerely,
Santoros Hashem

Dear Juan de Soneta,

I ask to be hired as Grandmaster of Hispania. In my position as royal merchant who specialises in the sale of fresh fish, I have gained a lot of experience. It would be an honor working with you.

((José sells some of the freshest fish you can buy. So he is a natural talent for the Grandmaster position. Imagine what an enormous boost his appointment would be for the Royal fish business.))

Dear gentlemen,
I thank you for applying to this role, but I must ask, to allow us to collaborate towards a cohesive and similar direction,
what is each of your opinion on matters of reform, religious and otherwise.
I hope that we can agree and may God be willing towards your aims,
Yours truly
Cardinal Juan II de Soneta, 1st Prime Minister of the Hispanian Realms and Court Chaplin to King Pere V

My opinion on reform... Hmm.

Dear Juan de Soneta,

As you may know, I was part of the Napoli Convention for Religious Tolerance, and have voted in that way since I arrived in Hispania, all those years ago. I also believe in secular reform, and supported the forming of an administrative monarchy, which has eased the King's load, and helped take care of this great kingdom. During my time as Grandmaster, we expanded into South and Central America, which had brought wealth into the Royal coffers. As you can see, I am for progress, and while I do not know if that is what you want, it is the truth.

Sincerely,
Santoros Hashem

((To PM de Soneta))

Dear Juan de Soneta,
You are most kind for replying to my application. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for it.
Concerning your most interesting question: Even though I am Catholic, I am pro religious and pro general reform. I believe neither the Protestants nor the Calvinists shall be suppressed. After all, we are all Christians.
I believe we would get along very well as I have a feeling we share the same believes for religious reform. Therefore, I hope you decide to appoint me as Hispania's new Grandmaster because I am a hard working fisherman who started with nothing but his boat. Hard work eventually paid off and I got a position as Royal Merchant. I managed to expand my free fish business dramatically and have over the course of the years worked with people from all sorts of backgrounds. You know, everybody loves fresh fish. I bring new ideas and experience to the table.

Thank you for considering me.
Sincerely,
José Fulminante

((Time for our vote. We have three things to vote on: France's call-to-arms, whether or not to offer protection to Cusco, and Anti-Disciminatory laws for all Christian heresies. I'll include the screenshot pertaining to the first two in a spoiler.

French Call-to-arms: Yes/No/Abstain
Offer Cusco Protection?: Yes/No/Abstain
Christian Anti-Discriminatory Laws: Yes/No/Abstain

Players will have until Sunday at 12PM PST to vote. Please bold your votes and include your character's name and class. If the rest of the Cortz could pick someone for the position of Chamberlain and if ML could appoint a council by then, that would be great. I don't need them immediately, but before the next update would be best.
