Is it possible to avoid an automatic download, and if so, how? I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish my game before 3 PM tomorrow, although I do think I'll be far enough in that I can finish it in a single session starting before that time, so I guess if nothing else, I could avoid the update by keeping my session active?

Will the save files be compatable, or have I just wasted a weekend finishing my campaigns for no reason?
I'm sure there's a better way, but if you shut down steam after launching the game I don't think it checks again - at least it didn't for me last time I killed the steam process (frees up resources).
You might be able to open tje game properties on steam and revert back to tj3 current patch. Paradox usually keeps a couple of older patches available on steam.

Ah but see, my game isn't unmodded.
The good news is that I've been progressing more quickly than expected and it should be no trouble at all to finish the game before 3 PM today.
