Feedback on DI:G 1.03 game - continued
Genuine bugs:
A) Light Jägers don't get the benefit from Artic Warfare Equipment, but Mountaineers and normal Infantry does. Since I'd love to send Jägers to assist Finland, can I ask: Is this WAD?
B) The event which creates Italian submarines in Bordeaux says there will also be an Italian HQ - but no such unit is created anywhere. Also, none of the subs have commanders?
C) Most of the special units' counters remain "on top" when mixed with other units - the Brandenberger, Hermann Göring regiment etc. - but when the Grossdeutschland regiment is mixed with regular motorised infantry, the counter becomes that of motorised infantry, making it harder to spot among other units.
D) The German-Soviet Border Agreement of 1941 has no tooltip explaining the consequences of your choice in advance. Just like the 1939 and 1940 agreements however, it DOES show up in the Strategic Effects list - ONCE it has been implemented.
Suspected bugs and AI/events perhaps not meant to be this way:
1) Maybe it was only in the old days of Hoi2 that Yugoslavia first joined the Axis and then left again? I waited all the way until March 1941 but no events happened. Then Operation Marita became available, and I just invaded the poor sods. A few problems with this:
- After Italy's failed invasion of Greece, Italy accepted military access in Yugoslavia. At the time of my invasion, a lone Italian tank was driving around near Sarajevo, resulting in a green blob of Italian territory right in my conquered Yugoslavia once the campaign was over 2-3 weeks later
- The Greeks LOVED that Yugoslavia joined the Allies. So much so, that they LEFT Greece to go fight in Yugoslavia - abandoning their only hope (the mountaneous defence in Northern Greece). It would be nice, if the Greek AI could somehow be convinced to stay at home and put up a fight?
- When I accepted Croatia as my new ally in the Axis, Croatia was NEUTRAL in the conflict with the Allies - meaning that 5-6 divisions of Greek soldiers immediately became polical refugees in Croatia, unable to return home and un-slaughterable by me?
(Naturally, I called Croatia to arms and then slaughtered the Greeks).
2) The British, I suspect, have all left for East Africa. The only force opposing Italy in North Africa, after they dramatically pushed west to within 10 provinces of Tripoli, is a Polish brigade, 2x "Egyptian Partisans"
and some British HQ's
- Nothing to fight the Axis in North Africa?
- Nothing to fight the Axis in Greece and Crete?
- No Royal Navy surface fleets or subs to hunt the Regina Marina and her merchants?
In almost a year of war there has been a single (1!) naval engagement between the Royal Navy and Regina Marina in the Med. And the Royal Navy does absolutely nothing to sink Axis convoys in the Med either
3) My lovely Afrika Korps was completely redundant. I know I commented in my last post, that Italy did not defend well after the UK got the "Prepare for Afrika Korps" event and smashed Italy in Libya. But once the war in France ended, Italy sent her 13(!) light tank divisions to North Africa and despite supply problems (not fuel problems) the Italians pushed on and reached Cairo and Alexandria in March 1941, capturing the Suez completely by May 1941. By that time, Rommel's corps had done enough sight-seeing in North Africa and been shipped back to Germany via Greece to prepare for Barbarossa.
- I would LOVE if something could be done to prevent Italy from sending that many (and that powerful) units to North Africa. It's such a bleeding shame that taking Suez is so easy and the DAK is so unnecessary (mind you, it didn't LOOK unnecessary in November 1940!!).
- Naturally, I'd also love to see the UK being more engaged in the Med - both in North Africa, at sea and in the Greek theatre. As it were, Operation Mercur was also unnecessary, because no British forces were holed up in Crete, which just surrendered with the rest of Greece... (and I love paratrooper operations as much as I love the Afrika Korps
)
4) The level 10 RADARs in the UK means that the interceptors meant to defend the UK (I suspect) can see and try to "intercept" my interceptors over France, when I try to intercept British strategic bombers. The result is massive stacks of UK nterceptors flying to France and doing very little because of stacking penalty. I suspect the range limitations is why UK still don't attach escorts to STR, making them easy prey for my Luftwaffe
5) By May 1941 the Royal Navy still hasn't done much of anything. The only two subs I ever lost were during the Battle of France - to the French navy in the Bay of Biscay. Now, I have 4 LR-SS, 8 MR-SS and 6 Italian SS - and I am happy to report that the UK has a massive daily deficit in almost everything but fuel.
- I am not sure whether this is what caused North Africa to be such a push-over from lack of defending forces (none of the units in NA ever lacked supplies it seemed).
- I have read that FtM is MUCH more lethal to subs, so maybe it will be okay in the new patch, but in this game the Royal Navy does not even appear to be sending out ASW patrols to stop me
6) Nationalist China AI and Japanese AI has been in a stalemate on the Shanxi/Manchuria border from autumn 1939 until May 1941. I am hoping that by calling China to arms soon against both the Allies and Comintern I can shake things up a little, but I think Paradox never imagined that China could get so much help that they could actually push Japan this far back - and then the game sort of stalls?
Praise for DI:G
- LOVE the new events to spice up the War in the Atlantic (uboat-pens etc.)
- HATE how that fat f*** Göring is costing me money and consumer goods, but I need the damn drug-addict to get the Luftwaffe field divisions and HG Fallschirmjäger, how cruel of you
- LOVE how the Allies reign supreme over the skies of North Africa, making me and the Italians pay in blood for every mile of advance. It sapped my manpower and IC and I will definetly plan for SP-AA the next time I send an expeditionary corps to a place without Luftwaffe air superiority
- LOVE seeing that a lot of the governments, I have sent into exile, are now actively supporting rebels and partisans in my country!
As usual, keep up the good work!
