Well, you're quoting half the blog's article, so it is quite hard to pinpoint what you're looking for.

So, from memory, I used:
* Zetterling's Normandy 1944: German Military Organization, Combat Power & Organizational Effectiveness (a.k.a The Bible about German troops in Normandy)
* Niehorster's OOB
* Jean-Luc Leleu's La Waffen-SS: Soldats Politiques en Guerre
* Eddy Florentin's Stalingrad en Normandie
*
Nicolas Mengus' Histoires extraordinaires de Malgré-Nous

I'll add more if I remember any.

Thank you kindly for your reply.

Dear Madmat,

What is your actual source for the disheartened Volkdeutsche being pressed into the ranks? In Rudolf Lehmans The Leibstandarte Vol. IV/1 it says that the replacements came from new recruits of the class of 1926, along with disbanded Luftwaffe units, from the Kriegsmarine and from the replacement battalions of the HJ division. As an aside on 1st June 1944 it had an authorised strength of 21,386 of which it had a shortfall of 1768, but 396 of these were Hiwi's.
